This is a story about Pepper the Pug.

Pepper is a Pug. A Pug is a kind of small dog with a short nose.

There is something else special about Pepper.

Pepper is blind and deaf.

Blind means she can't see.

Deaf means she can't hear.

Most dogs have five senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch.

Pepper doesn't have the first two, but the last three senses work very well!

No one is really sure when she got the name Pepper, but it always seemed to suit her. She was black with tiny bits of white in her fur, just like ground pepper

In fact, no one knows a lot about her early life. She doesn't even remember it that well.

"I haven't been able to see or hear for as long as I can remember, so I don't know what it's like to see or hear. It's ok, I found a way to get around..."

"...my nose!"

Sometimes Pepper hits her head on things:

...the wall...

...the bed...

...the chair...

...her sister, Peggy, the bunny...

Pepper doesn't get hurt when she hits her head. She uses her head to find her way around. When she makes a map with her head, soon she doesn't walk into things anymore...even though she can't see.
