The News

When I come back home from school, I find my brother at the doorstep. At the sight of me, he tells me to go to the living room where my parents are.

Walking over, I seem them. As usual, they are sitting at their own seats drinking the same wine. At the sight of me, mum beckons me to come sit with them. I look at them with curiosity and plop myself on a chair in front them, wanting to know what is going on.

"Hey dear, how was school today?" Mum asks.

"Uh, its good. As usual. Why? Is there anything wrong?" I furrow my brows.

"What do you think about moving overseas to study?"

"Um, I guess it'll be exciting. But not now. Maybe for my university studies."

"What do you think of Australia?"

"Well, I've never been there so it will be awkward but it looks like a nice place to stay. Sydney and Melbourne seems amazing. Why the sudden interest in Australia?" I raise my eyebrow.

Mum sighs, glancing at dad. Of course, as usual, he is on his phone busy talking to one of his colleague.

"You see, because of Dad's job and you and your brother's education, we are moving to Australia. So you and your brother have to switch schools. We are moving in two weeks, dear.."

I just stare at her in disbelief. Talking about Curiosity Kills the Cat. I'm almost 16, already planning for my prom, sweet 16 and everything else here at my high school and she is telling me I'm moving to another country, really?

In response, I just stand, turn and walk back into my room before slamming the door behind me.

Straight away, I strip off my clothes and step into the shower. Once I turn on the tap, the steaming hot water hit my bare skin, causing my tensed muscles to relax. I breathe a sigh of disappointment. My parents are really strict, always having my education in mind, thinking that that and my future is the most important thing in the world, expecting good grades and a great circle of friends. And now, because of that, I have to move to another country to do more studying. I have to start all over again, from scratch. I have to leave my best friends, Lily and Cassie, my boyfriend, Aaron, and MOVE.

Why must this happen to me?
