My Sisters Demons

How it all happened..

This has been going on for weeks, and it is to the point of life and death. "Mom she needs to go to the doctor, take her to the hospital!" I beg, she is just letting her lay there and die, I can't take this anymore! "Mother! Stop turning to the church for all these answers! I know that 'Prayer can fix everything' but Maria needs medication, she needs doctors."

"No she doesn't Antonia, she needs Father James to come. He will know how to fix this. We will have him bless the house again, burn some sage and throw around some holy water, then all will be well again. She doesn't need modern medicine." Says my mother. We are adopted by an elderly couple,  they are the only parents we have ever known. They are more like our grandparents by the look of their age, mother is 63 and father was 68 when he left us last spring. She doesn't believe in the whole doctor thing, she believes that through Christ all can be healed. I believe that to some extent, but Maria is sick. Very, very sick. "I'm calling father James, he will know what to do." About a half an hour later there is a knock at the door. Father James. A relatively handsome guy, probably in his late 20's or early 30's, but I'm at that stage in life where older guys are always gonna be better looking. I'm 17 for crying out loud, but he is pretty hot, I won't lie. Perfect olive toned skin, beautiful blue green eyes, pink lips that look like they would be as soft as clouds.. my mother shows him to Maria's room and I can hear her begging for him to help. "Please, you have to help us. Help my daughter. You surly must know some way to rid my daughter of whatever or whoever is doing this to her. Please father there must be some way to break free of whatever has a hold on my poor baby!" My mother cries with her bible in her hands.

"There is nothing more that I can do for her Sarah. I've done everything that I know possible." Father James says as my mother drops to her knees in front of him catching herself before she collapses completely to the floor. "I will call in a few favors, but I make no promises. Let us pray over her, she will need all of her strength for what is yet to come, especially if I can not get the help that I need in time. Prayer is all we have right now" he says as he extends his hand to my mother, helping her to her feet. As they enter the room, the body of my sister in her almost lifeless state begins to twist and turn. She contorted into ways that I never knew were humanly possible. I hate to see her like this, we were born minutes apart, and it breaks my heart to see the pain she is. She is physically, mentally, emotionally exhausted. She shakes, twisting and turning, mumbling in a language that I have never heard, not even within the church. "Quickly, grab hands, and take that of the child as well." He forcefully says with a tone of panic in his voice. My mother takes my hand and the hand of my sister putting me between her and father James. As he prays his prayer of strength, of hope, of faith, of willpower and love my sisters body begins bending backwards lifting off the bed. The entire room begins to shake, pictures fall from the wall and shatter on the hard wooden floor. The violent movements of her body scare me, the look on her face, I can see the pain as she begs for freedom..but whatever has he isn't letting go. "Tell is your name oh dark one, give us a name to call you serpent. In the name of our god almighty I demand that you give me thy name!" He calls out as my sisters screams grow louder.

"Hang on Maria! You have to hang on!" I call out as my mother loses grip of her hand. She pulls free from father James' grip, standing straight up on the bed. Again mumbling loudly in the same language as before but this time in a high pitch, as if it isn't coming from whatever was speaking before. "Tell us your name demon, give it to me! In the name of god... please give me your name! And get the hell out of my sister!" I cry out.

"One, two, three, four, five six, one, two, three, four, five....SIX!" The voice calls from within my sister. Six? Six? What does that mean? Father James grabs hold of her forcing her back into the bed wrapping rope around her wrists and ankles tying her to the down, enabling her to get up. "She is ours, and she will not be returned. For her light is almost out. We six control the body, we six control the vessel that shall hold our lord of darkness."

"Demon give me the names of the six, give them to me in the name of our Heavenly Father, give us your names!" Father calls pressing a cross to my sisters forehead, she twists, turns, and jerks trying to pull away. As he pulls it away, the cross leaves a burnt imprint on her forehead where it had set. We need more help, us three can not control what is here. Not without it killing my sister and possible us as well. "You need to go my child, you do not need to be here. Sarah take her and leave, go to the church and pray, pray for her, pray for your sister, give her strength. She is going to need it." He instructs pushing us out the door. My mother takes tightly to my hand pulling me away.

" I love you Maria!" I call out as she drags me down the stairs. As my mother puts me into the car she dials the number to her close friend Santiago, his brother is a priest from a church about 20 miles away, maybe he can help. She is sobbing uncontrollably, almost so much that she is hardly understandable. "Mama we have to hurry.. we should turn back. She needs us with her. Mama I need to be with her." I say as we pull into the church. She shakes her head and pushes me to the door. The doors to the church are always open, so we can get in at any time day or night. My mother runs directly to the altar dropping to her knees crying and begging for God to send his bravest and strongest angles to stand at my sisters side and guide her to be as strong as she can. She will need all the strength she can possess... with six demons, and they said that they hold the vessel to which the dark lord will soon inhabit. There is nothing more I can do than pray for my sister. "Please god, she needs you , I need you, mama and father James need you. Send us the help we need God, please. Please help us, help Maria. Help her to be strong and to fight off the demonic presence within her...help her god.. I can't lose her." I cry kneeling beside mama. I've never seen anything like this, not even movies. This is so much worse. People are beginning to come into the church and kneeling behind or beside us extending their hands and touching our backs, our arms, shoulders.. their prayers fill the church. The power of God is so strong within this room, I can feel the pressure being lifted. " Please God! Lift our praises, help Maria, send us your bravest, your strongest..help Maria to fight the demons within her father god, stand with her, lead her back into this world, push them out and help her to be strong!" I cry out standing tall about those kneeled praying for Maria to be strong and return. "We have to go to the house! We have to go, with all of us.. there is no way that those demonic serpents even stand a chance, we must take this to her!" I pull my mother up and push her to the car. "Drive, or I will!"

"You are crazy, but if you believe that this could work. I will do anything to have my baby back." My mother says starting the engine. The people pour from the church, and pile into their cars following us home. As we all jump from the vehicles and rush into the house I can see everyone beginning to grab hands.

"Pray, pray hard!" I cry out "father we are here! Send us the bravest, the strongest angles to stand with our beloved Maria, help her to be strong, stand with her and lead her back to us!" As my mother begins to pray I can hear as we begin to grow louder. The presence of God has never been so strong within my home, but we will fill it 1000 times over if that is what we have to do. "Father god I pray that you send down the angle warriors to battle with the forces that have taken over Maria's body, give her the power to return to us and force the demons out." I call aloud assuring that father James as well as my sister could hear me. The sound of moving furniture and glass shattering begin to grow louder as our prayer grow stronger.

"Keep praying, step outside of your comfort zone, your praises can force them out of her, you must pray harder." Father James calls from her room, the door must be broken because there is no way he could have been heard with it shut. "In the name of the son, the father, and the Holy Ghost demons I demand you leave the body of this child and return from once you came! Leave her, leave this house in the name of god almighty!" I can hear his prayers becoming more powerful. "I command you leave this body! Leave her and return to the darkness. Return to hell you serpents." The house begins to shake more violently, pictures fall from the wall shattering. Maria's cries growing louder, it sounds more like her now, she is screaming begging for them to stop. "Be gone with you, there is no place for you here anymore, she is the light of god and that leaves no room for you demons. Be gone in the name of God I banish you back into the flaming pits of hell from where you came!" Father James commands. I break free from my mothers grip on my hand and run up the stairs.

"Leave my sister, leave her now! You have no place in this home, you can not control her, or anyone else in this house. Be gone from her, she does not belong to you!" I cry dropping to my knees beside my sisters bed, I grab her hand pulling it to my mouth, kissing it lightly, "Get out of my sister, she isn't yours to take!" Father James grabs my hand kneeling beside me and her body goes limp, lifeless. "No, no...Maria, wake up! Maria!" I scream pulling the rope from her hands. Her chest isn't moving, she isn't moving. "Maria wake up, Maria... come back to me, don't leave me here..please wake up." I cry shaking her, pulling her pushing her back and forth doing everything I can to wake her.

"Go get your mother child.. " says father James with a sorrowful look on his face. This can't be happening. This isn't happening...he nudges me towards the door. My mother is sitting at the bottom of the stairs as I peer around the corner. Her eyes light up when she sees me. I motion for her to come and so she does. As we enter the room neither one of us say a word, looking at Maria's lifeless body. My mother hits her knees sobbing uncontrollably.shes mumbling something but I can't understand what she is saying. I lift her to her feet and help her to the bed.. she touches Maria's face, saying something about her baby, her baby. I have to be the strong one, I can't let her see me cry, not now.. "Come Sarah, we need to call the medical examiner.. they need to take her body."

"They can't take her, they can't..she's my baby, they can't have her!" My mother says clinging to Maria's hand. I wish there was something I could do for my mother, my sister.. I sit in the floor beside Maria's bed with her hand in my hand, hoping, praying that she will squeeze back.

"If you can hear me...even a little Ria..the squeeze my hand, let me know you're still here..please..." I say softly as the tears begin to roll down my face. I know it's impossible..but I can still have hope...right? "Maria please wake up... please... I can't do this without you, I can't. I'll lose myself, I'll lose mom.. please don't make me go through this life alone. I can't.." I can feel the tears turning into what seem like raindrops. Please Maria...

"Sis.." I hear a mumble come from somewhere that sounds like Maria. I push myself out of the floor, her eyes are open barely, and her chest is moving. She's breathing. "I'm back..." she mumbles.. Oh thank you god. Thank you!!! She attempts to smile, but she is to weak..

"MAMA!! FATHER JAMES!!! MAMA!!!" I call out ruining from the room, running down the stairs. "She's awake, she's alive, mama Maria's awake!!!" I cry out tears streaming down my face. She's okay.. she's gonna be okay.. oh thank you god.. thank you.. "Hurry, come on...she's okay, she's alive, she's awake, she's okay.!" My mother looks at me with tear filled eyes and smiles pushing past me and up the stairs into my sisters bedroom. I can hear her crying and thanking god for giving us Maria back. I knew it wasn't her time to go. I knew that God was going to take care of us and send us the help we needed to save her. I go into the room and sit on the edge of the bed and grab Maria's hand. "We are going to church every Wednesday, every Sunday. No more questions about it." I laugh. We need to get back into church, if our faith would have been stronger than this might not have happened. But since dad left us, we stopped going to church like we used to, we almost stopped believing I think... we have to step our game up... we can't have this happen again..we will lose her next time. "Thank you father, we will never be able to express the gratitude we owe you. Thank you so so much for fighting for my sister..we will see you again on Sunday morning!" I say wrapping my arms around him. We will never be able to repay this..

"Thank you father, is there anything we can do to repay you?" My mother asks. "Dinner, somewhere to stay, money? Anything? There must be some way for us to repay you for giving me back my baby."

"Just get these girls and yourself to church on Sunday, or as soon as Maria is feeling up to it." He says with a smile on his face. He pulls off 2 thin silver chains, one with Saint Michael, and the other with a small crucifix. "Maria wear this saint Michael pendent. He will protect you.. and you Tonia, wear this one, thank you for being so brave, and fighting along side me for your sister. If it weren't for you she might not have made it. Keep praying, and I expect to see you both in class on Sunday morning as soon as our Maria is feeling better." He says smiling. He kisses her forehead and mine and hugs my mother. "Good bye ladies." He leaves and soon the house is quiet. Maria falls asleep in my mothers arms and I lay across the bottom of the bed. Thank you god, thank you for giving me back my sister. Thank you for sending us your bravest and strongest warriors to bring Maria back. Thank you for getting rid of my sisters demons.
