Nomad's Frontier
Part One: Chapter One: Five Friends
"You have to leave now! Leave without me! All of your hard work.....it would have been for nothing!"
It was just the beginning of the lunch period, when students were finally allowed to disperse from the works of education to chitchat with friends, eat, or do whatever they pleased for about forty-five minutes. Though, Mai decided to take lunch as an opportunity to study vigorously for an upcoming test.
Mai Yamato's light rose colored skin shone in the light that was cast upon her, as she tilted her neck up and looked through the sky window with her dazzling light blue eyes. She looked around at the empty library then her eyes immediately became glued into her thick orange book that read 'S.A.T. Preparatory'. As the light began to get brighter on Mai's skin, her forehead became hot causing little drops of sweat to fall from her to her thick blue and silver-sleeved jacket that had 'Galaxy High' imprinted on the front. She turned around and stared at the black clock screwed onto the green wall behind her.
Mai gathered her materials, put them away neatly into her denim bag, and headed outside the library through the scanners. She skipped through the school, waving high to numerous people that she encountered. It was windy outside, so her black hair that had blue streaks flew behind her back. She arrived at a baby blue painted building that read 'Dormitory B3' on the wall. She walked inside and saw girls running around giggling. She squeezed passed the girls and went into a room with '203' written on it.
Mai had a room to herself in the dorm. She had a cushiony bed with a rose blanket on it. She quickly took off her blue Converse shoes, so that she wouldn't make her brown carpet dirty. She ran over to a brown desk, opened a drawer, and pulled out a blank white piece of paper and a brown wooden pencil and began writing across the blank paper. She took off her sweater and hung it over the back of her desk's chair, now she was wearing a long sleeved baby blue jersey bardot shirt.

As soon as she began writing her information on the blank paper the bell rang a screeching nose and Mai gathered her materials and put then away nearly into her denim bag. She walked out of the dormitory and walked across the school campus into another large building. She walked up hallow staircases, skipping every other step, into the second floor hallway.
The school had blue painted walls with silver lockers aligned nearly in a row. The doors were silver and the floor was a silver marble color. Students walked by wearing whatever they felt free to wear, and there were some who wore blue and silver collared shirts or jackets that had 'Galaxy High' printed on them. Mai began to shiver as she rubbed her arm with her hand. She then remembered that she left her jacket on her room back at the dormitory.
As Mai stood in the hallway in the second floor of the building, she felt alone. Until a game freak, but rather good friend, approached her, shuffling side-to-side hopping like a child on his feet.
"Ay, wuddup, Mai? Ready for the S.A.T.s?" the young seventeen-year-old boy asked Mai, with his black thin eyebrows narrowed down as he stared straight into Mai's aquatic blue eyes with his dark red groggy eyes. He was slightly taller so he looked down on her. Either his eyes were really red from staying up all night playing video games or he decided to buy red contacts to increase the flame in his eyes.
"Mister Leon Takarii. You've got yourself a hair cut! I kind of feel bad because you always wanted to color your black spiky hair to a more flaming red color. You were only able to keep your spiky red hair for about two weeks because you had to shave it down for R.O.T.C." Mai commented. "At least it's still red though."
His Jansport backpack hung loose at the side of his thigh because one of the straps had ripped off, from him chewing the strap when he was bored in class. The sun reflected off of his skin, being pretty light for an Asian. He wore light blue jeans, a baggy red sweater, and his shoes has a big red Nike sign across them, indicating the vast amount of money he spent on his shoes. Leon looked into Mai's aquatic eyes with his red eyes showing that he was waiting for an answer from his first question. His lips were pushed out forward and he exhaled air out of his nose.
Mai let out a loose breath from her smiling lips. "Of course! I just spent my lunch period studying a tad bit longer in the library. I bet you haven't even studied one bit, Leon. Probably role playing all day, I assume." Mai wondered as she swooshed her black hair with blue streaks behind her back. She nibbled the tip of her crystal-blue painted fingernail and rubbed the excess tiny drips of saliva on her blue long sleeved shirt. Her long light blue pants were tight against her waist as she scuffled to move around a bit to approach Leon.
"Aw nah! I actually studied, man! I want to get into a good college, y'know?" Leon responded, jumping happily in his red shoes. "I'm going to become the bestest graphic designer, ya heard? Create the best video games ever, y'know?" Leon's use of vocabulary was very inappropriate for a student of the school, but he excelled drastically in computer programming.
A fifteen-year-old girl approached Leon from behind Mai. Her skin shone in the light, being the same color as Mai's. Her green blouse matched her hazel eye color and her dazzling blue skirt shifted from side-to-side with each step she took. "Ay girl! Looks like ya decided to get green streaks in ya brown hair, instead of purple ones, Trisha. That's hot! Green's considered the horny color nowadays." Leon managed to squeeze between Trisha and Mai.
"Leon, reading the instruction manuals to video games aren't going to get you anywhere in life, especially into a good college." Trisha said rejecting the hi-five Leon offered.
Trisha Bonafacchio would be considered the annoying brat in the group. She was a real "beauty queen" who always focused on the way she looked rather than on her education. The other students at Galaxy High considered her to be one of the girls who were miraculously accepted into the magnet program. The young girl took out her Sephora make-up kit and carefully picked out a green pencil and started to apply the green eyeliner along her eyes, making sure to curve the color evenly. The green color was bright, the same color of a sliced kiwi.
"You're not taking the S.A.T.s are ya? A city college is fine for you, right? I mean, you're trying to become a cosmo somefin, right?" Leon asked running his rough hand through Trisha's green streaks in her long brown hair.
"It's called cosmetology, Leon. Anyone with a sense of knowledge would know that!" Trisha responded conceitedly taking out a pink comb and brushing out the tiny tangles in her long hair. "And if you didn't know, green is the style nowadays. If any immature boy is to call green a horny color, then obviously he doesn't understand what goes on in the fashion industry." Trisha's face bore a conceited look as she fluttered her eyelashes at Leon making him squint his eyes at her annoying sense of humor. Mai looked at Leon's black bag and saw the flap of of a white manual hanging out.
"Say, Leon, what instruction manual do you have in your bag, this time? Is is another role-playing one? Or a fighting one this time? God, Leon you carry so many different manuals that I don't even know what you have now." Mai demanded pulling out the instruction manual out to a video game out of Leon's black bag that read 'Nomad's Frontier' on the cover.
Mai looked through the booklet and saw the playable characters in the game, different items you could use, a world map and all sorts of technological features that didn't interest her. She placed the manual carefully back into Leon's black backpack making sure not to fold back any of the pages and zipped it back up. She aggressively pulled out her S.A.T. Prep book form her denim bag and began rustling through the pages tracing her finger along the Table of Contents.
"Oh you guys. Good luck on your S.A.T.s, okay? They-." Mai said when she was cut off, when a very young and short boy bumped into Mai knocking her book out of her hand and herself onto the floor. The little boy took one step closer to Mai.
"I'm sorry, Mai. I didn't see you there." He said holding out his soft and pudgy hand out to Mai so that she could use it to stand up. He looked into Mai's eyes with his almond-shaped brown eyes. Mai shuffled to gather her stuff together on her knees and took a breath as she slapped the boy's hand away and stood up on her own. The boy was twelve years old, and he was not only the youngest in the group but the youngest boy in the entire school. He was about eight inches shorted than Mai standing at 4'6".
"Ooooo Kyle, man, you just got rejected!" Leon laughed as he nudged Kyle in his shoulder. Of the four, Kyle Pomello was the smartest, because he studied abroad and in different countries. He had short wavy hair that was creased back with strong gel. He wore a small-sized dark chocolate brown shirt and faded blue jeans that were a bit big for him, considering they covered most of his dark brown laceless Vans. He was a hint shade darker than Mai, Trisha, and Leon. Mai stood up on her baby blue Converse shoes and a boy about the age of eighteen began to walk towards the four friends.
"I would've helped her up," He said as he was walking up to the side of Trisha. His dark brown eyes met Mai's eyes, that were all over him. Trisha, Leon, and Kyle began giggling to themselves as a sign the Mai and Vijay have some chemistry with each other. Vijay Caldera had black spiky hair that was neatly done and wore a black jacket that matched well with his dark blue jeans. They were a bit baggy but they fit perfectly, revealing each strand of his black shoelaces on his leather shoes.
"Hi, Vijay. Are you ready for the S.A.T.s?" Mai asked Vijay with her face looking straight at the ground. Kyle, Trisha, and Leon began to giggle once again, under their breath, while Mai and Vijay looked at each other in the eye. Mai's eyes blinked twice and her head tilted indicating that she was waiting for an answer.
"Don't sweat it Mai," Vijay said putting his arm around Mai, making her jump a little, "The S.A.T.s aren't until tomorrow. So how about we all chill, for the day, after sixth period? We can all go eat out somewhere and get some ice cream at that one store across the park," Vijay told his group of friends as his eyes shifted from Mai to the other three. Trisha pushed Mai out of the way, breaking her free of Vijay's arm as she walked forward.
"That'd be nice," Trisha responded applying her red lipstick. The bell then rang once again and sounds of students chattering hurt Mai's ears as she pressed the palm of her hands against her ears. The other fellow students began walking quickly to their classes, leaving the five friend alone in the hallway. They all walked in unison as they headed towards their next class, which only took six steps to reach. They entered the room which read 'English AP ACC' in black ink printed in Times New Roman front on a white poster paper on the front door. The teacher's name read "Miss Stern" underneath the class type.
