Songbird - A Poem/song Lyric
Songbird - a poem
The howling of a silent wind
Trying to find where you had sinned
God closed his eyes; the Devil grinned
The legless try to run
Hope's angel sought but never there
Both day and night filled with despair
As offered hands are empty air
For those whom life would shun
These are the times we live in
Our Existence seems forlorn
And though our hearts keep beating
From life we'll soon be torn
O, was it but one bird who sang
A plaintive, gentle note that rang
So full of love to give, she sprang -
impaled upon the thorn
Longing to live in sun's warm shine
Seeking the face of the Divine
Denied, until I needs resign
Awarded wreaths of scorn
These are the times I live in
With every step the path feels more forlorn
Straight ahead a dark abyss yawns for me
My Footing seeming ever more unsure
So much to give that none would take
To love and trust, our first mistake
Nightmares from which we cannot wake
No succour for our pain
No matter where we look we find
The gazes of the ever blind
Who hear no pleadings, pay no mind
Souls live and die in vain
These were the times we lived in
Our Existence was forlorn
Hearts, broken, have stopped beating
And, from your lives, we're gone
