The Frost Life

Chapter 1

Most people find it hard to deal with one life. But me? I have two very different lives. One is normal. Like going to school, having best friends, family, and parties. The other is more complicated than that. I work for a secret government agency called Frost. It was a stupid name, but it was my agencies name. Not a single sole knows about it other than the people who work there. How did a fifteen year old girl get into such a high class agency? Well, lets just say that my Mom knew some pretty dangerous people. She saw one of them every day. In the mirror.

I was jogging around the block when I heard mt stepmom call my name from the house. My legs were burning because I had already run ten laps and was going to go for a third; then Kathrine decided to mess that up. I stopped at the driveway and put my hands on my knees and breathed. The once clean cloths I was wearing were drenched in sweat after that.

After a moment of deep breathing I walked inside and walked into the kitchen and stood there with perfect posture. It was a habit that I developed after I lived with my Mom and her team for around five years. I was probably the youngest trainee that had been taught. Mom's husband/teammate, decided to start training me when I was around eight. They sent me to my Dad and stepmom when they went on a mission that lasted months. I wanted so badly to go back, but my Mom said that it wasn't safe. Then she decided it was safe enough to have a child.

Although I was mad at her, I couldn't blame her. She didn't mean to get pregnant with my little sister. But when I heard that she had the baby I coaxed her into flying me down to see her after a year. When you looked at us it seemed as if she was my full sister instead of my half sister. We both had brown curly hair, dark blue eyes, but hers had white lines in them while mine had gold. The similarities never ended!

When I went back to Dad's it became the same routine I had before I had left. Wake up early, drink a cup of coffee, go for a run, and work out for as long as I could. Then after that it was completely random. But that's because those people couldn't stay in routine to save there lives!

I had currently been in my running stage, but when Kathrine came back into the kitchen she held my phone in her hand. "I heard it ringing so I went to see who it was." Her blue eyes suggested that she hadn't a clue how much it pissed me off that she touched my phone. She handed it to me with her pail hand and said. "Your Mom." Then she just walked away. Her long ruby red hair flipping with her.

The phone went straight to my ear, and I went straight outside. I plugged my earbuds in and talked to her as I fast walked. "Mom?" My voice was excited. "How have you been? How did it go?" I had never said the word 'mission' aloud in a public place. Ever! It would compromise me, my Mom, and Jet. My stepdad.

Her soft laugh came through the earbuds in waves of relaxing comfort. "Yes, sweetheart. It went perfect, just like every other time." I sighed a sigh of relief. "I was actually calling about something else."

"What?"

"I need you to come back to do this mission with us." Her voice lowered and sounded a bit sad. "I cant come and get you because I have been compromised by the enemy." I stopped in my tracks. My heard did that thing where it skipped a beat and then started to race off the track. Standing there for a moment I took a deep breath, and another, and another. "Listen." Her voice was calm. "I am having Jamie come to get you." Jamie. His name sent a flurry of warmth and numbness through my body. Jamie was my boyfriend. We had been together since I was ten and he was twelve years old.

Once I was calm enough I kept fast walking. "Are you guys ok? Is Mouse ok?" My little sister was in danger and I would never let anything bad ever happen to her. "When is Jamie coming to pick me up?" Every question possible was swirling around in my head, begging to fly out of my mouth. But bombarding my Mom with questions wasn't going to help.

"He's going to be there tomorrow at noon. Text him and tell him where you live. I was too busy dealing with-" Her voice cut off for a moment. "Never mind. Just text him your address." The line went dead and I stopped and held the phone in front of my face. My mouth was hung wide open. She had just hung up on me! Angry, I finished the one lap and ran back inside.

Gabby, my stepsister, was sitting on the couch in the living room watching TV. I didn't bother to look at what she was watching because TV was just a stupid distraction. When I was in my room I texted Jamie my address. When he replied I was in the middle of doing push ups.

Jamie: K. I'll be there at midnight tomorrow.

Me: What should I tell my Dad?

Jamie: I don't know. But guess what!?

Me: What!?

Jamie: I got promoted. I am now higher ranking than you!

Me: Well. That's because I haven't been there for about... I don't know. A YEAR AND A HALF! If I were there the whole time I would have the highest rank possible.

Jamie: Yeah yeah yeah. I have to go. See you soon Love you.

Me: Love you too.

I threw my phone onto my bed and finished my whole work out. Slowly, I walked out of my room and slid into the kitchen. Nobody was in there and it was getting close to lunch so I whipped up some leftover chicken and salad.

How could my Mom, one of the best people in Frost, get caught? And why had she dodged my question about them being alright? Was somebody in trouble? Jet? Hal? Nena? Lofy? . . . Mouse? I quickly shook the horrifying thought from my head. My Mom would never let anything happen to mouse. I actually laughed a bit when I had thought of that. Causing me to mildly choke on a piece of my salad. If anyone had been hurt or anything like that, it would have had to have been Hal or Lofy. The two were the craziest people I had ever met. Both of them had straight blond hair and mismatch blue and green eyes that made there pale skin seem even paler.

The two were brother and sister, twins; and when you put them together! It was like walking into some crazy fest that you couldn't get out of. Everybody would feed off of there hipped up vibes and let there worst side out. I even did that once. Once! Never, ever, again will I go into a room alone with them. Especially on a mission. I had been eleven and trusted my team, or my Moms team, and would consider what they said thoroughly. . . That's not what happened with them. Let's just say a few walls were kicked in, somebodies arm was broken, and a few cars were blown up.

A smile was spread across my face as I remembered that mission. Then there was Nena and Jet. Jet was calm and amazing at what he did. He always thought everything through and considered the good, and bad possibilities. The way his short black hair stood, and how he had the coldest brown eyes when he faced something dangerous, made him seem scarier than he really was. Nena was like an older sister with guy short hair that she always kept died. Nobody ever knew her true color hair. She had golden eyes and golden brown skin like somebody toasted her. Always looking on the bright side of things and taking everything slow. That was basically the whole description of her.

I got up and put my dishes away and walked into my room. If I was going to tell Dad I had to leave tomorrow I would need a whole lot of sleep. But when I went into my room I put out the SLEEP sign and locked my door.

When I climbed in bed I pulled out my profile from under my bed. Jet said that I would have to give it to Chief Kelo when I went back. My fingers wrapped around the edged when I opened it.

OLIVIA ANN RIVET.

AGENT #88 BORN FEBRUARY 19 2002

DESCRIPTION OF AGENT:     FEMALE. LONG BROWN CURLY HAIR. DARK BLUE EYES, GOLD INFUSED. STANDS AT FIVE'FIVE. FAIR SKIN WITH FRECKLES ACROSS THE BRIDGE OF HER NOSE.

DAUGHTER OF: AGENT MARY LYN RIVET.

STEPDAUGHTER OF: AGENT JET KANE LANO.

The profile went on for a couple of pages about the missions I had been on and who my real Dad was, and lets not forget Kathrine and Gabby. I slipped the folder of information back under my bed between the mattress and the bar. Then I settled back into bed and let sleep overtake my mind. I was so excited that I would get to see Jamie and get to spend a while alone with him. It had been forever since I had seen him.

But I didn't make any plans because when you work at Frost your plans never go perfect. Most of them work out, but not the way you want them to.

Chapter 2

My eyes slid open sometime around midnight, but instead of getting up i just lay there looking up at the CEILING. it was pitch black at first. then my mind started to go into a DAZy haze of sleep and i started to see colors all over the place. blue and purple mixed and, oddly enough, created a red that turned into a green. after about thirty MINUTES of sitting there watching colors i got up and sat at the EDGE of my bed.

i leaned over and sat my head on my hands. my head was pounding with a HEADACHE that wouldn't stop throbbing. it happened every time i woke up, ever since i moved in with my dad.

so i got up and stumbled over to my door. it was so dark in my room i ACCIDENTALLY walked right into the wall. "son of a bitch!" I yelled a little too loud.

i could hear my dad open his door but i still couldn't find mine. a bright light came from behind me and i spun around to see who it was. "Olivia?" My dad's voice sounded tired. "you ok?" I realized that i had turned the wrong way and i was on the opposite side of the room from the door. i felt so stupid for my misdirection.

the pain from my head was still growing so i walked to the door and gave dad a fake smile. "yeah i just got turned around and walked into the wall." part of my training included lying. nobody could tell when i was lying. or telling the truth. "sorry for waking you up."

he stepped out of the way and smiled at me. "It's fine. oh" he walked down the hall into his room and quickly came back out with something in his hand. "You left these in my car." dad held out my glasses and i RELUCTANTLY took them and walked down the opposite end of the hall towards the kitchen. "olivia." dad called.

i turned and looked at him. "take a shower. you reek." he waved the air in front of him like the smell still lingered. i gave a fake laugh and told him i would. after he turned i dropped my smile and rushed into the kitchen and put my glasses on so i could see the bottles of med's on the counter closest to the hall.

there was a couple that belonged to my stepmom and stepsister that i had to move out of the way before i found the IBUPROFEN. popping two in my mouth, i swallowed them without water. then i went and sat in the living room.

gabby was asleep on the couch but the tv had been turned off. probably by my dad. she was laying there without a blanket over her and it was freezing. so i pulled one off the back of the couch and threw it over her. she had red hair just like her mom and pail skin too. but her eyes were brown. She WASN'T my FAVORITE person in the world, but still.

Instead of sitting down and potentially waking her up, I walked back into my room and sat down on my bed. Everything was happening so fast. one moment i'm doing my daily thing and the next i'm getting ready to leave and go on a mission with my mom that has SUPPOSEDLY been exposed.

how come sh didn't answer me when i asked her if everyone was alright? She had never lied to me before. Technically she still wasn't lying, she just wasn't telling me everything there was to tell.

it made me feel left out, and oddly enough, unwanted. I knew that was a bunch of bull shit, but that's how i felt. she was leaving me out of something really important and I didn't like it one bit. Anger swelled through my veins. Coursing through me until I saw a shadow outside my window.

MAYBE i was just seeing things. no, i knew that i wasn't! that was another thing. I kept doubting my skills when i knew for a fact that they were right. everything in me was jumbled up into a huge mess and i had no clue how to unscramble it.

quietly i stood up and walked over to my window where i had seen the shadow. it slightly squeaked as I opened it making me wary as i climbed out. When my feet were on the ground i looked around me but only saw a fence and some bushes. as i made my way around the house my mind went into overdrive.

what if the people that had discovered my mom had somehow found out about me and had come to kill me? It wasn't hard to find out who a person was these days. all you had to do was click a few buttons on your phone, or computer, and BAM! there's that person! it was creepy how anyone could do that.

my heart was beating so hard and fast in my chest that i could barely breath. i knew what i had to do if i was in danger. and the first part didn't have anything to  do with calling help. that was the last part. . . the clean up.

i smelt something in the air. it was oddly familiar. when i got to the edge of the house that led to the front lawn i slowly looked around. nobody was there. there wasn't a SINGLE sole in sight!

what had i been so worried about? honestly. it had probably just been one of those neanderthals using our yard as a get away rout.

that's when i heard it. a twig snapped right behind me. i suddenly noticed that the smell i detected earlier had grown stronger. my body spun in full force. i went low and kicked my right leg out tripping the ASSASSIN behind me. my body loosened as i threw my hands up and did a back flip a few feet away from my attacker.blood rushed through my body as i raised my hands up to my chest in fists ready to fight till one of us dies.

a groan came from the ground as the lumpy shadow raised up from the ground like some zombie. "Still got it don'cha." Jamie's voice came out deep and sore. he stepped into the light that the street lamp provided and walked so close i could feel his heart beating on my chest. His blond messy hair was a bit longer than before, just below the ears. The way his tan skin was so close to mine was EXHILARATING. "if that's your way of saying you missed me then this is mine."

he leaned down and brought his lips to mine. it was soft and warm as our lips pressed together. his scent fully hit me and it sent a shiver down my back. dirt, ashes, and TWIZZLERS. i had missed him so much! his right hand found my cheek and his left found the small of my back. we were so close it seemed IMPOSSIBLE to break us apart. the world could be on fire and we wouldn't notice.

our lips opened and that's when i heard it. "olivia!" gabby's voice came from the porch. "what the hell a-" she stopped mid-SENTENCE and walked over. jamie let my cheek go, but he kept his hand around my waist as we turned towards gabby. "who is this?" she used her hand to gesture from his feet to his head.

I wanted to punch her in the face! instead, "Jamie, gabby. gabby jamie." my voice was stiff as i said it and jamie gave me a SURPRISED look. i knew that it was because i was ACTUALLY managing my anger problems.  one tim when i was hanging out with jamie. . . i broke his arm because he said that my hair looked weird when it was short.

She looked between the two of us and laughed. "Right! Your imaginary boyfriend is so real." She used her fingers around the word real, to make it seem exaggerated. that's when i, almost, snapped.

i actually went to side flip her, but instead i just grabbed her arm and twisted it behind her back and shoved her away. "Leave!" Then i turned to jamie and pulled him away from gabby's loud mouth.

we walked down the driveway and got into his car. when we were settled in i turned to him and couldn't help but smile. "How did you get here so early!" Excitement tumbled through me like water rushing down waterfall.

His hand rested on mine causing my heart to flutter. Butterfly's flew throughout my stomach and crashed in to walls. "Well...Lets just say that i had a run in with the cops once" our eyes met. "ok twice." my eyebrow ARCHED up as i looked deep into his deep silver eyes and could tell that he was lying. "Ok! fine! like....NINETEEN or so."

My jaw dropped. "But your so charming." i raised my hand to his soft face and laughed. i had missed his laugh so much i almost cracked when he did it. "Hey. Why didn't you just knock on my window instead of creeping around like that?" I asked.

HE GAVE ME A WEIRD LOOK. "I WASN'T CREEPING AROUND. I JUST WALKED TO THE BACK OF YOUR HOUSE AND WHEN I HERD YOU I WENT TOWARDS THE FRONT." A WAVE OF SHOCK FILLED ME. IF IT HADN'T BEEN HIM CREEPING AROUND MY WINDOW AT THIS TIME OF NIGHT THEN....NO!

I SHOT OUT OF THE CAR AND TOOK OFF TOWARDS THE HOUSE. JAMIE WAS TRAILING AFTER ME. "WHATS THE MATTER?" HIS WORRIED VOICE ONLY MADE ME MORE ON EDGE. HOW COULD I HAVE NOT NOTICED THAT!? I HAD BEEN TRAINED AND WAS THE BEST KID THERE!? HOW COULD I HAVE LET AN INTRUDER SLIP PASSED ME!

MY HANDS WRAPPED AROUND THE DOOR HANDLE, BUT THE DOOR WAS ALREADY OPEN. JUST NOT SHUT ALL THE WAY. I SAW ONE OF GABBY'S SLIPPERS ON THE FLOOR. A FEW SCRATCH MARKS WERE ON THE FLOOR. SIGN OF STRUGGLE. I RUSHED TO THE PARENTS ROOM AND SAW THAT THEY WERE FAST ASLEEP.

QUICKLY I TURNED AND RAN OUT THE DOOR AS FAST AS I COULD. "JAMIE! SOMEONE WAS HERE AND THEY GOT GABBY." WE RACED TO THE CAR AND GOT IN. I TURNED TO HIM AS HE STARTED THE CAR AND HOPPED IN THE BACK. "DID MOM PACK ME PROPER CLOTHS?" HE NODDED AND I FOUND THE BAG UNDER THE BACK SEAT.

I COULD FEEL JAMIE'S EYES ON ME AS I STRIPPED IN THE BACK OF THE CAR. "TAKE A PICTURE IT'LL LAST LONGER." I SAID AS I LAUGHED.

"SERIOUSLY!" HE PULLED OUT HIS PHONE PLAYFULLY AND TOSSED IT TO ME. "HAVE AT IT! THAT WOULD MAKE UP FOR THE BIRTHDAY PRESENT YOU DIDN'T GET ME A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO."

THE BLACK SHORT SLEEVE SHIRT FIT PERFECTLY. AND THE CARGO PANTS HAD TOO MANY POCKETS. JUST THE WAY I LIKED IT."YEAH RIGHT! I SENT YOU THAT RING." I CLIMBED BACK INTO THE FRONT SEAT WHILE TYING MY COMBAT BOOT LACE AND POINTED TO HIS FINGER. HE NODDED AND KEPT DRIVING. I HAD MY RING AROUND MY NECK ON A CHAIN. "YOU THOUGHT!" MY VOICE WENT SILENT WHEN I SAW A TORN PIECE OF CLOTHING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. "STOP!" JAMIE HIT THE BRAKES.

MY HANDS REACHED IN THE BACK AND PULLED OUT A WEAPON BELT AND A BULLET PROOF VEST. ONCE I HAD ALL MY STUFF STRAPPED ON I LOOKED OVER AT JAMIE WHO HAD JUST FINISHED DOING THE SAME AND WE GOT OUT.

Chapter 3

why did i always end up in the crappiest situations!? when jamie and i got out of his truck we looked around. there was nothing to suggest that gabby was anywhere near us. all we found was some of her torn cloths on the ground.

that's when i felt a knife go strait into my back. yes! a damn knife! before i knew what was happening i felt something slam me in the face, and it wasn't a pillow. god, i wished it was a pillow!

i sat there in some sort of cell, wondering what the hell happened when i herd a groan beside me. "jamie!" he lay on the ground. blood smeared on his perfect face. "what the hell happened! where are we?" jamie looked up and saw me sitting there.

"i swear I'm going to kill whoever did that to your face!" anger shot through him. it was typical. nobody got away with hurting me unless they went through jamie first. and even if they got through jamie, he was still going to kill them in there sleep. one time this guy shoved me down and laughed. he DISAPPEARED the next morning. yeah, jamie was POSSESSIVE, but that's what i liked most about him. it meant he would never let me go. and i didn't want him too.

i realized that i was smiling wildly at him and wiped it off my face. he got up and walked over to me and sat down. "what was that smile all about? your face is messed up. your stepsister is gone and were down here." He always saw the downside to everything. But i was always the one to bring back the light. it was odd, because i was normally the angry one and he was the happy one. but when he got angry i would get happy. or just flat out worried.

"Well. at least were down here together. and to be honest." i looked around and settled my eyes back onto jamie's. "i was going to ask Magic Jack to do something about here when i got back." that wasn't a lie either. magic jack was the guy to go to when you wanted somebody to DISAPPEAR.

jamie put his arm around me and laughed. "seriously?" i nodded and sat my head on his shoulder. "so should we break out now... or should i call your MOm?" He pulled his shoe off and took out a thumb print scanner. "your mom made me take it." I sighed and stood up.

the cell was dark, but there was enough light to see everything through the bars. A light flickered about ten feet from the cell. There was a table with cards that sat a few yards away, but i didn't see the use in that. So i walked over to the lock and realized that it was a thumb print scanner. "Shit!" i turned around and looked at jamie. "why is everyone so OBSESSED with thumbprints?" he half laughed half scoffed.

We sat there for a good five minuets doing nothing. Well i was trying to think of a way out and ULTIMATELY failed at it. then jamie threw the scanner from his shoe onto my stomach. "call her. we've got no other option." it wasn't in my blood to give up. i hadn't ever done it before and it was hard to even think of it at that point.

I set the scanner in my palm and felt the small pad. a slick clear cover was laid over it. like the kind you would find on a new phone or something. "well i think were not all that screwed."

Quickly, i put my plan into action. with the clear cover in hand i wiped the fingerprints off with my shirt and wiped some dust onto one side of it. Carefully, i placed it on the pad, hoping it would work. my thumb pressed agents the pad and every second that passed was like standing face to face with death.

'CLICK' was all i herd as the cell door swung open. "Um...i HAVEN'T had much experience with finding my way through a place like this so," i looked at jamie who had a dumbfounded look on his face. "you go first." i sure as hell wasn't going to. last time i went first i got the shit beat out of me.

Jamie stood up and walked to the cell door. "where'd you learn to do that?"

I laughed. "SURPRISINGLY you can learn something from those bullshit shows on TV." Where had i seen it? i couldn't remember the name of the movie to save my life. but i sure could remember how they escaped.

but how were we going to escape? i thought to myself as we stood by the cell...
