Chapter one

"There is a place that's filled to the brim with magic and mystery. It's a place where kids can rule and pigs really can fly.

But it's not all as amazing as it may sound, for example, there is sadness and despair, there is hunger and need.

All this, this evil, in the world was created by the king and queen. They were evil people who lived in a palace that stretched towards the sky and glowed with a false cover of joy.

But if you look closer you can see the paint is peeling and the staff are skinny and never smile, the music that used to light up the kingdom, was gone, replaced by sullen faces and hunger filled people.

Before the queen and king came unto rule, the kingdom was ruled by a group of friends, each from a different species and way of life, and they were led by the queen.

A fierce warrior, with a strong heart. She led her people with a kind confidence. And her people were happy.

There are rumors about a princess, the daughter of the queen, they say she's gathered a rebellion and plans to take back the kingdom,"  I paused and looked around at my attentive audience.

" and that is why we must stay strong and keep fighting on, waiting for the princess returns, always help those in need, cause you never know, they might be helping the princess" as I finished I smiled down at the young kids who had gathered around me to listen.

" I'm afraid I must leave, but remember what I have said, for it is important," I told them before extracting myself from their tangle. I grabbed my bag from where I had sat it down and set of down the street with one last wave at the kids behind me.

I continued down the road passing the stands the villagers had set up. I smiled at the baker and skipped down the street humming to a song only I heard.

I ducked into an alleyway and knocked on a old wold door with steam coming from the cracks in the day. The door open blasting me with heat from the ovens inside. I smiled at the woman at the door and pulled a package from my bag handed it to her.

She checked the contents then smiled and stepped aside, "thanks rosa!" I yelled over the rumble from the ovens inside. Rosa winked at me and then closed the door behind me as I stepped in.

I grabbed the huge bag of laundry, and hauled it up and over my shoulder, then waved at Rosa and rushed through the steam filled room to the other side and another door. Opening the door by leaning against it.

Coming out on the opposite street as I had been a moment ago, I hurried out of the alley and onto a street.

This street was similar to the one on the other side but this one was smaller and dirtier. It was what some would call a dangerous place and then continue on to tell their children not to go near it.

But I believed it was a magical place where people expressed how they felt and in my eyes it glowed with hope. On the walls were the words "DOWN WITH THE DRAGON!!!" The dragon is what some of us call the king and queen. AN evil being that has devoured our land,  The Dragon.

But, moving on, I passed up the words on the wall and many others similar in wording.

Pausing on my way to the "washer" I pushed open a small door hidden behind a cart selling scarfs. I smiled and nodded at the man behind the cart.

"Ye hear to see ol gramps?" He asked with a wink.

"Yep!" I laughed and ducked into the small room. Ol Gramps as John so proudly put it is actually a group of kids he watched over, but sadly he is not legally allowed to watch over them so he has a hard time feeding them all.

Sitting down I set down the laundry and pulled my bag over my shoulder, inside rested packages of food. I lay them all out on the ground then, knocked on the wood door behind me.

Once again grabbing the Laundry I stepped out and pulled on my now almost empty bag.

John smiled at me and then continued his conversation with the woman who was buying a blue scarf.

Next to John's cart there was another bag of laundry, heaving it up to join the other bag and nodded to John and the woman who was now sporting a  gorgeous scarf and continued on my way.

By the time I reached the "washer" a large Magic spelled bucket that washed clothes in 5 minutes, I had accumulated a bag of laundry from, the wood cutter, the small inn down the road, and many other small places with big families.

"Hey faylein!" Shouted a small girl that stood next to the gigantic "washer"

"Hey Lena!" I yelled back and waved with my free hand. She trotted over to me and nodded at my load.

" that the wash for today?" She asked with a jaunty smug attitude.

"Yep! You think you can handle it?" I asked her with a laugh.

"You bet!" She answered, her voice near laughter.

" where you off to next?" She asked as she dumped the contents of each bag into separate "washers"

"I'm heading over to Lily's to help watch her kids, So how's  Len?" I ask her stepping up to help her push the Handle to start the thing.

She stepped back and wiped her brow, " she's at the farm today," Lena and Len are fox twins, which means Lena and Len can shape shift into foxes.

"Say hi for me will ya?" as I start backing away towards Lily's smiling.

        "Sure thing! Later fay!"

"Later Lena!" I yell back before spinning around and starting out towards Lily's.

Arriving at Lily's I knocked on the door and smiled when the youngest of Lily's kids opened the door.

"Fay!!" She squealed and jumped up and down with her arms held out towards me.

I laughed and scooped her up into my arms and carried her into the room, kicking the door closed.

"Lily! I'm here!" I yelled out as I entered. I frowned when nobody answered, lily was always listening and had the best hearing I've ever seen, it's probably because she's half elf.

"Where's your mommy Honey?" I asked the 3 year old in my arms. The looked up from playing with the colored  Ribbons and beads entangled in my curly hair.

She pointed towards the basement stairs and whispered "mommies down there with people with hurts," as she finished her older sister and one of my friends came up the steps

"Honey where-Fay! What? What are you doing here?" She asked her voice rising.

My eyebrows raised and made a sound like "huh?" And she sighed.

" all right, all right," she complained "follow me," I smiled and adjusted Honey in my arms.

When we reached the bottom of the basement she put her hand out and the wall wavered and disappeared we walked into a big room, set up like a doctor's office. I froze when I saw what was in front of me, a bunch of people sat or were laying down with injuries.

"Mommy! Look it's Fay!!" Honey squealed into my ear. I winced.

"Hon, remember what I said about screaming in my ear?" I asked her as I set her down.

"sorry," she said before seeing my bag and reached for it.

"Wait," I said holding it up " first go get your siblings," I told her and watched as she raced away and then stopped and started playing with her kitten, Then I turned towards Lily.

"What can I do to help?" I asked walking towards her.

"Oh, bless you fayleen," she said and drew me in for a hug. I smiled and hugged her back.

"If you want I can call the twins, they really good at pain relief magic and such, of course I know a little bit but not as much as them," I said and rolled up the sleeves of my brown patched long sleeve shirt and pulled my hair back with a green ribbon and rubbed my hands on my faded green skirt with slits up the sides for movement, underneath I had brown leggings.

" yes please do call the twins," lily answered and pushed back some escape strands of gray hair back into her bun before smile in at me and turning back to the spell she was working on with a young boy who had a broken arm I looked at his tear stained face and reached into my bag pulling out a small ball made out of colored glass that shown when light hit it at different angles.

Handing to the young boy I smiled before turning away and reaching for a necklace I wore. It was a gift from the twins, it had a tooth, it was Lena's fox tooth.

I grabbed onto it with both hands then cleared my mind like they had taught me,

"Lena? I need your help," I whispered "come to Lily's, bring Len " I whispered before opening my eyes.

The room spun and felt a little sick but it left soon after mind speaking was always draining.  I turned back to Lily and found that she had moved on to another person, the boy from before lay asleep holding onto the glass ball.

I smiled before walking to lily to help out until the twins arrived.

A few hours later I lay awake next to the twins at Lily's place,Lily's children had fallen asleep before I could give them their presents. Once I heard the twins fall asleep I slowly stood up and walked out of the room we had been placed in.

Once outside I tip toed through the hallway and knot the living room where lily was silently sipping some tea.

"Hey? Um lily?" I asked her as I walked in and say on the rug by the fire and near her feet.

"Yes Fay?" She asked gazing at the flickering fire, I watch as the tiredness fell like a wait onto her and she slouched.

"Never mind," I said and smiled at her lovely, I've spent my whole life hopping around the town staying at different places and doing chores for them in payment. But Lily was like the mother I had never had.

She looked down at me and a sudden fierceness flared to life in her eyes.

"Listen to me child, things have gotten worse and it is the time to strike, I may not believe in the princess, but I believe in you, I believe that you have the strength inside of you to take down that evil king and queen, I swear to you, I stand behind you." When she finished she leaned back and stood.

"Good night Day," she said and wearily walked away, back then I had come.

What was she talking about, I knew lily was apart of the rebellion but what did she mean when she said she stood behind me? I shrugged, she was probably just tired I thought.

"Fay? Can you sleep with me?" Asked Honey she had walked into the living room and held her teddy bear in her right hand, she yawned and rubbed her eye with her left hand blinking up at me. I smiled and picked her up.

" sure thing sweetie, sure thing,"

The next morning I was woken up by a bunch of kids jumping on me yelling "presents!! Presents!"

"Alright alright I'm up, shoo shoo," I laughed and pushed them gently of me, Honey still lay sound asleep next to me.

" Go get my bag and wait for me in the big room, ok," I told them and smiled as they rushed out pushing and shoving each other, Lily adopted kids left and right, most of them were from the streets there parents had abandoned them because they couldn't afford to feed them.

" wake up Honey, your siblings are waiting for us so I can give everyone presents," I told her as I nudged her shoulder, she slowly opened her eyes and looked up at me with sleepy eyes. I smiled as she raised her arms I picked her up and together we walked towards where the sound of children laughed came from.

I walked in and gave Honey to one of her older siblings then grabbed my bag from the table. Lily looked up from where she was making soup for the injured group of men who sat around the room talking in groups.

"Alright everyone gather around," I reached into my bag and pulled out a small pouch from inside of it I took out a red stone, I held it up smiled at my audience.

"This is a fire stone, when you hold on to it it warms up, when you feel cold inside and can't seem to smile hold onto this stone and it will light your inner fire," I handed it to the oldest who was a year younger than me at 17 she smiled in thanks and held it close to her chest before showing it to some of the younger kids. "next is this," I pulled out a blue stone.

" this stone is often called a memory stone, when you look into it you will see memories reflected on its surface it may or may not be yours but it will show you want you need to see." I looked at the kids and used a small spell “ Aspectu,(Sight)”, one child, a little boy with wild curly brown hair and such sad eyes stood out to me his soul matched with the magic in the stone and I knew this was his.

"what's your name?" I asked him, he looked up at me with wide green eyes and stared.

"Miss fay, he doesn't know how to speak but we call him Joe," said a little girl wearing  faded blue dress, I smiled in thanks and turned back to Jo,

"This belongs to you now, take care of it ok," I told him, he nodded and smiled at me.

One by one I pulled out strange and magical things giving them to the children, when the last kid was given his new toy my bag was almost empty.

" Hey lily, I have something for you to," I told her and took out a small wooden box handing it to her I smiled as she examined it.

"You can put as much stuff as you want into it, it's like a black hole, when you need something from inside it, put your hand in and say the name of what you want, I've already put in a few inessentials such as a few weapons and magic tools, sometimes it will give you what the situation needs not what you ask for," my smile grew as her eyes light up and held the chest gingerly.

"Thank you dear, thank you for everything you have done for me and my family, I am forever in your debt" I just smiled and shook my head.

"Well I'm off to work, see you later Lily,"

"Bye Fay, stay safe" she told me and went back to her cooking.

" bye everyone!" I called out to all the kids and they all looked up at me,

" bye Fay!!" They all yelled over each other, I smiled and laughed, I loved Lily's place.

Time for work, once I left and made sure the door was locked behind me I took of towards the workers guild, I often went there and took any jobs that no one else wanted, like cleaning the bathrooms for rich people by hand, like without magic, sometimes I would do other things like babysitting or helping build a new building.

I walked into the guild entrance and waved to the Guards who guarded the main hall.

" hey Fay! You hear for work?" Asked a big man with a stack of papers, I smiled and jogged over to him.

"Hey Mr.Dane, yep I'm here for work what do you have for me?" I asked him and hopped onto one of the chairs around him. He smiled down at me and laughed his loud laugh.

"Well there's one job that everyone here is to scared to take, want to hear it?" He asked me and at my nod continued " well it's a job offer from the King's captain of guard-"

" wait! The captain of the guard! That captain! THE Captain!" I yelled

"Yep, but wait it gets better, he's asking for help, apparently his son is a troublemaker and has gotten himself into some bad, trouble,"

" what kind of trouble?" I asked him becoming serious.

"The Black Shadow Gang," he answered his big beard seemed to quiver with his anger. I raised an eyebrow, the Black shadow Gang had caused a lot of trouble for Mr.Dane apparently they had sat attacked a few of his caravans that went to his base at the capital.

"What did he do?" I asked frowning, Mr.Dane was kinda like a father to me and seeing what the Shadow gang had done made me angry.

"Don't know the paper didn't say, *sigh* well what do you say Fay? You in?" I smiled at him,

"You bet, where do I need to go and when?" I asked him.

" it says that he'll send a few guards to get you, they'll be at the town's edge in a few hours,"

"A few hours?" I asked surprised

"I've had the request for a few days," he admitted sheepishly, I smiled at him and sat up,

" well I have everything I need in my bag," i told him and slung it over my shoulder I held out my hand for the request and smiled when he gave it to me,

" well I'm of," I told him and waved goodbye,

"Fay! Be careful," he told me concern in his big brown eyes I nodded and left the Workers Guild heading to the town edge.

Even though our town was small we were the closest to the Capital, so we often got nobels passing through, they always stayed in the center of the town so visitors normally didn't see the edge of town, it was dark and damp, it had been abandoned after the war, and now held decaying buildings.

When I reached the edge I saw a group of soldiers standing by horses and talking, I raised a brow at the armor they wore, were they expecting trouble?

“ Excuse me, i'm from the Workers guild, for the job request,” I held out the paper form, and gave it to the soldier that came up to me.

“ I’m in charge of this unit, you can call me captain or sir, your name?” He asked, I blinked.

“Um, my name is Faylin, but I go by Fay, So when are we leaving?” I asked him and adjusted my hold on my bag.

“ we leave now, I assume you know how to ride a Horse?”

    “ Yes”

“Good, you will ride that one,” He pointed at a white stallion, I walked up to it and held out my hand, the horse whickered and pushed his nose into my hand. I smiled and took a few steps so I stood at his side, I put my foot into the stirrup and pulled myself up, once I was settled I looked up.

“ So? Are you ready?” I asked the captain smirking as he glowered at me.

“Men, get on your horses and follow me,” He jumped onto his black stallion and rode of, I smiled and followed close behind him, a few seconds later the rest of the men caught up.

“ So, why did the captain of the guard send some of his men to escort a lowly commoner?” I asked the captain, he glowered at me and sighed.

“ There have been bandits in this area lately,” He said shortly.

“ And he wanted someone to find out if I was good for the job? Right?” I asked him with a smug smirk. He glowered at me and went faster I laughed quietly and smiled.

“ So bandits huh? Sounds interesting tell me more,” I looked over at one of the soldiers that rode next to me.

“ They have been attacking nobles and commoners who are on their way to and from the capital. So far there have been 20 people hit that we know of, they attack at random intervals so we need to always be on guard,” He spoke as if reciting a report. I frowned and thought on what he had said, then rode up to where the captain was talking with his second in command.

“ Captin, if you want I can use my magic to keep us safe so you and your men can relax,” I told him.

“ Magic? Your a mage?” He asked me slowing his horse a bit so he rode next to me.

“Yes, is that so hard to imagine?” I asked him a bit irritated that he didn't believe me.

“No that's not it, what level are you at,” he asked me, I blushed and looked away, mumbling in answer,

“Sorry, what was that?” He asked me.

“ I said I don't know! I never got tested to know what level I have but I can do magic!” I yelled and ended with a huf.

“ alright alright, show me what you can do and then I’ll decide,” He said and rested his hand on the pommel of his sword. I smiled and took out a silver rod, about two inches tall

“Crescere!” I shouted and the rod grew to the length of three feet and marking appeared circling the rod I ran my fingers across them saying the words on them and activating the magic in them.

“Viribus, (Strength) Valido, (Sturdy) Periculo, (Dangerous)” As the words left my mouth the marking lit up with a eerie blue light and fading away leaving a normal looking rod. I held it up and smiled I twirled it in my hand than swung it in a ark at the tree on the side of the path.

With a swing of the rod a blue light flew from the rod cutting into the tree and cutting it half a blast of air blew back into us and my hair red flew out behind me, I smiled at the shocked faces of the Captain and his men.

“ I have a few tricks up my sleeve,” I said and twirled the rod around me and the horse than held it out in front me with one hand and held the other over it.

“Novis (Reverse)” And the rod shrinked to its original size i smiled and slipped it back into my bag.

“Alright you’ve proven your point go ahead and do your spell. So we can get going,” he said in a gruff voice. I nodded and took out a small eyepiece.  I held it up to the light of the sun and took a deep breath.

“Caecus aspicio, (Invisible eyes)” the piece lit up before disappearing.

“ There whenever someone gets too close I will know and will be able to give you ample warning,” I told him, he nodded then checked the time with an enchanted stone.

“ we're almost to the place where they attacked last time, MEN BE ON GUARD!!” I sighed and leaned my head back up and sighed, this was boring we’d only been out for a few minutes and already the stiffness of the captain was driving me crazy! I needing something to do, I sighed again then sat up and pulled out a journal and a pencil, I know what I can do i’ll work on some new spells.

“ Let's see,” I muttered and toyed with my pencil, maybe Ventum ignis, (Wind fire)” I held up a twig and watched as a blast of hot air rushed around the branch suddenly the twig caught on fire a blazed brightly before I put it out.

“Mmm, could be used for setting campfires or setting enemy camps on fire, so I’ll put it under Attack and everyday stuff,”  I finished up after writing a few more spells down, when I looked up again the sun was setting and the captain was calling for a stop.

“ We’re stopping for the night, we’ll be setting up camp over there, do you need help with anything?” He asked me after pointing to a small clearing at the edge of the path.

“ No thanks, i’ll be ok,” I told him and swung down and stretched reaching towards the sky then froze I tilted my head and focused my magic, my spell from earlier was tingling.

“My spell has been tripped, someone is coming,” I focused harder, “ About five maybe six,” I said and turned to the captain, who looked at me his face clouded.

“ Men prepare for battle!” He yelled and pulled out his sword, his men following, I laughed a bit and then raised my hands up palms out towards the woods.

“Arbusto Intego,(Forest Protect)” The woods around us began to shake and the ground shakes the trees around us pulled themselves from the ground and formed a barrier around us there branches interwinding and then reaching above us to hide us from above.

“ aqua ortum, (Water rise)” A pool of water formed in the ground seeping from the earth, one more spell to get thing set up.

“Videre hostium, (See enemy)” The water cleared and split in two one showed our right where two men were crouched waiting in the other three men stood with their swords out watching from the left.

Let's see, now then what spell should I use to capture them, I could use wind fire, but i don't want to set the forest on fire so, Oh I know,

“ impetum silvam (Forest attack)” I pointed at the men in the water and a stream of green flew from my fingers into the water and wrapped around the men then the forest around them attacked.

After a bit the men were black and blue and were tied up by vines, I crooked my finger and the vines begin to pull them towards me, the trees moved back to where they first rested and everything went back to normal besides the five men tied up in the middle of our camp.

“ i’ll leave the rest to you,” I said and took out a blanket I tossed it into the air and snapped my fingers activating the spell on it, the blanket grew and expanded becoming a tent large enough to fit at least a few people

“ Night,” I yawned and pushed aside the tent flap to get it inside their was a small bed already made and a small lamp sat on a small table to to it. I set my bag down on it and stretched before laying down.

I wonder what everyone was doing right now? I could use a spy spell to check but, that would probably be considered invasive, oh well I contact the twins in the morning. I snapped my fingers and light turned off I rolled over and was fast asleep.

The next day we reached the capital, it would still take a few days to travel to the castle where we would meet the captain of the guard, to get there we had to go through the capital, on foot, horses wouldn't fit on the streets.

I looked up at the large gate there was a small line of caravans and travelers waiting to get in but the captain got of his horse and walked to the man who was keeping watch I watched them talk and then he came back mounted up and went through the gates with us following.

This would be my first time at the capitol and I was surprised by the wealth of the place, but I guess it made sense, this was where the king and queen lived they wouldn't live close to the poor.

I hesitated before looking closer, the paint was peeling, and there were small groups of children begging for food i sighed, it seems that even the capital isn't safe from the poverty the king and queen has caused.

“This way,” The captain said and we headed towards a Inn, I looked up at the inn, it said in bold lettering, “ New Moon Inn,” I frowned the place looked pretty nice considering we were in the outer layer of the capital,

“We’ll stay here tonight then head out first thing in the morning, we’ll reach the middle ring by dusk tomorrow so get a good night's sleep,” He told everyone and disappeared into the Inn, I frowned at his retreating back before handing my horse over to a stable boy.

When I entered the Inn I wrinkled my nose, gross, it smelt like beer and sweet, laughter filled the air and cheerful music had many people dancing the captain's second handed me a key,

“ Your room is number 8,” he said than walked away, I sighed, man were these men stiff. The stairs were next to the kitchen and walking up them I could hear the kitchen staff calling out orders and the sound of pots and pans moving around.

I reached my room and fit the key into it and pushed the door open, it was small and had a small cot against the door and a small chest to hold belongings I closed the door behind me and locked it.

I took out my spell book and flipped through it, there it is, I layed it out in front of me and than held my hands out towards the door.

“parce mihi, (Keyed to me)” A light flew from my hands and hit the door the words i had spoked carved themselves into the wood than faded away.  That spell would keep the door locked unless I was the one unlocking it, and if someone tried to use magic to break the spell it would alert me.

I closed my book and put it back into my bag before putting it on the floor and laying down to sleep.

I woke up to someone trying to unlock my door, I tensed then slowly reached into my bag and took out my small rod.

“Crescere (grow) Viribus, (Strength) Valido, (Sturdy) Periculo, (Dangerous)” when the magic light faded away I walked towards the door the small rod now bigger and enhanced by magic, I put my hand against the door,

“per videre (see through)” The door seemed to waver and become hazy when it cleared I had a clear sight into the hallway, the captain stood there looking annoyed, I sighed and relaxed,

“Novis (Reverse)” The rod returned to its first size and a pit it back into my bag i put it on and than grabbed the key from on top the chest I unlocked the door.

“ good morning captain,” I said and left my room, I taped the door with the key and the blue light appeared before fading away the spell leaving the door.

“ Are we leaving?” I asked, he raised an eyebrow at the blue light but when I just smiled and didn't say anything he just sighed.

“Yes, but first we're having breakfast,” He turned around and we started down the stairs the smell of the pancakes and breakfast wafted up to us and I took a deep breath, reaching the lobby I saw that all the soldiers were already eating, I grabbed the plate and stacked a few pancakes on it before sitting down next to the captain and his second.

“ Is there anything I should be aware of today?” I asked him before taking another bite, hmm, chocolate chips.

“ Yes actually, we might be attacked by the Black shadow gang since they probably heard that you're going to help the Captain's son,” He frowned understandably frustrated with the possibility of attack. I nodded and pulled out my book, I skimmed few the pages stopping at a few before frowning and moving on,

“Ah, this one will work ‘Coetus defendant me a mala (Protect my group from evil)”  A blue light lifted from my open hands and went to all the men in the squadron and entering their armor.

“ What was that?” Asked the captain tencing.

“Don’t worry it’s just a protection spell,” I told him and took another bite from my pancake before putting away my book and making sure the bag was closed, I finished my breakfast and stood stretched reaching towards the ceiling.

“ I’m going to go and check on the horses,” I told them and walked out the inn, when I reached the stables I looked for my white stallion, spotting her I walked over to her stall and held my hand out she pushed her nose against me and wickered, I smiled and patted her head.

“Move,” Snapped a voice, I startled a spell already on my tongue but stopped when I saw it was just a kid, probably only 13 years old.

“ Oh, sorry,” I said and moved away from the stall, the boy opened the stall and walked in closing it behind him I noticed he had a brush in his hand, he started brushing her.

“ Thank you for taking care of her for me,” I told him and smiled he looked over at me and glowered.

“ You don’t look like the normal kind who works with the royal guard,” He curled his lip with disgust.

“Normally I’m not but i’ve been hired to protect someone,” I told him and settled my arms on the ledge of the stall door.

“Well they sent a job request to my guild and I take the jobs no one wants to take so, here I am, it’s been fun so far though, on the way here we ran into a group of bandits” I told him and watched his eyes light up.

“ Really?” He asked me and turned to face me his eyes bright, I nodded and pulled out a blue stone from my bag. I held it out and we watched as it lit up a projection of what had happened in the forest.

“Wow, thats so cool! You can do magic, show me! please, “ he begged me and brought his face up to mine, before blushing and jerking away. I laughed and pulled out my spellbook I went to a specific page and held my hand out palm up.

“Coloribus volant (Colors fly)” A bunch of colors burst from my hand and flew around us I smiled.

“Give us a show guys,” I told them and the colors flew around forming shapes, winged horses and dragons flew around our heads knights on steads battled the dragons then the colors glowed bright and swirled into a ball before exploding into a billion colorful light before fading away.

“That's so cool,” The boy said his voice filled with awe, I smiled down at him the stone in his hand was glowing.

“What's it doing?” He asked me staring at with fascination.

“It’s recording, now you’ll be able to see the colors show when ever you want,” I told him.

“You mean you're giving me this, for real?” He asked me holding the now normal blue stone to his chest as if afraid i'd change my mind. I smiled  and laughed,

“See it as a thank you for taking care of our horses for us,” I told him and ruffled his head, He smiled up at me and nodded before pocketing the stone,

“BOY! WHERE ARE YOU WE HAVE WORK TO DO!” Yelled a voice from inside. The kid's eyes widened and he quickly left the stall waved goodbye to me and ran of, I smiled than went to the front of the Inn to wait for everyone else to get ready.

Twenty minutes later the horses were saddled and we were mounting up, I waved goodbye to the boy who watched from the doorway, he smiled and waved back.

As we walked along the cobblestone I saw that a lot of the people shied away from us as we walked by, why were they so scared of the guards? Then up above I heard lots of voices, I looked over as we passed, a pair of soldiers were escorting a man to a metal cage that sat in the middle of the market.

A woman suddenly ran from the crowed and reached for the man sobbing, the soldiers slapped her away, I gasped and stared on with horror, I Listened to the people as they walked by or stood to watch.

“Poor thing, only 17 and her father taken away from her,”

“He probably didn't pay his full tax,”

“Well we’ll never see him again,”

My anger grew as I heard the men and woman talk, I looked back at the girl and saw her sobbing as she hugged an older woman, probably her mom.

“What did these poor people do to deserve this?” I asked the captain, he looked over at me and his lip curled.

“ That filth deserves it, he should be grateful for the king and queen,” He scoffed and spat at the ground. They were evil, how could someone have so much darkness inside of them? No one deserves this, the king and queen were corrupting the people of this land.

I turned away from the captain in disgust and we carried on, but before we passed the markets center, I tossed a small pebble so it landed in the girl's lap, that stone would lead her to a rebellion safehouse, hopefully their she could get help.

I sighed and looked down my chest was tight and a sense of unease filled me, should I go through with this job, I mean the guy probably deserves this i mean who knows what he’s done. no, I said I would take this job so I will.

A few hours later we stopped at a restaurant for lunch, after we continued on, so bored, I took out my spell book and went through it, oh, this one's fun let’s do it.

“ Eum lux de caelo (Light up the sky) gaudium et ostende mihi (And show me joy)” light popped into existence and popped away before reappearing giving of a wonderful mix of music, with each color a new sound filled the air, I smiled and nodded my head along with the music, a few kids looked on with joy in their eyes I smiled and held up my hand palm up I blew across it and bubbles of color flew from my hand to surround the kids before joining the colors in the sky.

I laughed and flipped to another page, and smiled with humor.’

“ cantabo, et papiliones volant (Butterflies fly and sing) ” the colors swirled together becoming butterflies and flying around a few landed on the horses and faded away and some opened their mouths and begin to sing, I sighed contently and hummed along.

“Enough!” Snapped the Captain, I tensed and waved my hand the magic disappearing i glared at the captain and he glared back.”

“What!?” I snapped at him. He narrowed his eyes and I saw the anger in his eyes.

“ LIsieon well filth, you may be coming to help the chief captain, but you're still a commoner, so don't forget your place,” He snarled I tensed and held my hand up.

“Don't you-” “Quite!” I snapped and held still with my eyes closed, their.

“ there are about 10 of them, all armed and they have hostages,” I told them I opened my eyes and pulled out my rod ready to fight, a few words later my rod was in battle form and my back was stiff as I waited for them to make their move, Night had fallen and the moon was our only source of light.

“ Lux (Light) “ A ball of light appeared hovering in front of us and slightly above.

“ quaerere (Seek)” The light split into 11 small balls and ten of them split away and hovered above of the men. I sat back and watched as they clashed, the sound of their swords ringing as they hit over and over made an almost rhythmic sound. I suddenly felt the urge to get of my horse and- No! Something's not right.

“cor et mentem meis (Shield my mind and heart)” a gold light wrapped around me and covered my whole body, the urge to leave my horse left me and I was angry, someone thought that they could control me! ME! How dare they.

“Show yourself!” I yelled and held my rod out ready to fight, an man showed in shadow walked from the shadows atop a midnight black stallion with glowing red eyes, I glowered.

“What is your name,” I asked him and pointed my rod at him, he slowly smiled, and threw back his head laughing maniacally. I shivered and my body tensed, this guy was creepy!

“pugna tenebris ad lucem, cum amor pugnant odit, quia ego sum:FEY! (Fight dark with light, fight hate with love for I am)” A flash of light burst from my and swept like a tidal wave straight at the man but he just laughed louder and disappeared in a swirl of purple light, I looked around to see the rest of his men had also disappeared.

I pulled out another recording stone and replayed the events that had happened, I zoomed in on the man in shadows and looked closely, there! There was a black skull tattooed on his chest.

“It was the black shadow gang,” I showed them the man and his tattoo.

“ I was afraid so, this means they know why you’re here. What were you doing, my men are hurt! Why didn't you use your magic” He snapped at me, I gaped at him, he did not just,

“Well excuse me! I was dealing with my own problem if you didn't notice,” I growled and turned away from him angry.

I Led my horse towards the injured and jumped off. Their wounds gsve of a purplish tint and I could sense that man's magic infecting them.

“ I can't do much more than remove the poison that he put into them, then they’ll have to heal normally,     nisi mala auferat sanitatem manere (Evil away only healing remain)”  Gold light leaked from my skin and entered the injuries of the men lying in front of me. The wounds glowed and the purple tint faded away I sighed and let my hands drop, I wiped my brow and sat down at the side of the street. Using so much powerfull magic in one day was tiring me.

“ Hey girl!” Snapped one of the men, I looked p at him.

“MY friends still hurt why haven't you healed him yet!” He yelled in anger, I growled and pushed myself up I pointed my rod at him and watched as he swallowed.

“LIsten carefully, healing magic is forbidden for all except the elves, if i tried to heal your friend we would both die on the spot, do you understand,” I told him my voice was low and dangerous and I felt my magic react to my anger. I took a deep breath and leached in my magic. I turned away and glared at the rest of the men who were watching us.

“Well! Are we leaving or what!?” I yelled, they all jumped into action, I sighed and rubbed my forehead, a massive headache was coming on. We mounted up and off we went.

The next morning was the same but quieter and we were all tense. I yawned for the tenth time and stretched, this was so boring, maybe I could speed this up a bit,

“Would you mind if I sped this up and got us there faster?” I asked already reaching for my book,

“ What do you have in mind?” Asked the captain, I smiled and pulled out my book I flipped through the pages then pointed out a spell to the captain, he read it and then showed it to his second who nodded,

“ Verry well,” He nodded and handed my book back to me, I smiled and sat straighter,

“ pedibus meis propero vivificábo trinus ut destinations mihi ad finem. ( speed my trip quicken my feet take me to my destinations end)” I finished and nodded to the captain as a green light seeped from the ground and wrapped around the horse's feet.

“As long as we stay on the horses we should get there in half the time,” I told the captain, he nodded and scratched his beard.

“Witch means we should arrive at noon,” I nodded and we settled out again, I watched the ground with interest as the ground seemed to blur and the faces around us bent in odd forms and seemed to run and blur, I laughed at the shocked faces of the soldiers and smiled and spread my arms out wide, the wind blowing my hair around my face. I settled down and took out a green stone from my bag I held it up and it lit up I smiled and put it back into my bag, I smiled and winked at the confused face of the man riding next to me.

I looked up at the sun and watched the clouds fly by, I sighed and smiled in contentment,  a few minutes later I felt one of my spells being tripped, I frowned and closed my eyes opening my senses trying to find witch spell it was, That's weird, it was the spell I had placed on Lily's box, someone had broken it, I frowned, I had been avoiding using long distance communication spells because they weren't secure, and anyone could lieon in, but this seemed important.

“ et verba mea atque transire spatium aures vestras pervenire: maria, et in montibus (let my words cross the distance and reach your ears, over mountains and seas)” I mumbled under my breath, my ear let of a small blue light before fading away,

“Lily? Are you ok, the spell on your box was broken,” I asked silence was the only thing I could hear

“ If you're in danger and you can't make any noise, caufe once,” I said and listened heard a soft cough reach my ears I frowned in worry,

“Sneeze once if it's the Shadow gang, Once if it's related to the other thing,” I said careful not to mention anything about the rebellion.

One sneeze was her answer.

“Clear your throat if the kids are safe,”

Nothing.

“If the kids are in danger or will be in danger caufe once,” I told her

One caufe

“Do you want to
