My Last Chance

People never change

I looked around my empty apartment, after all my time away- I could hardly recognise it. The wallpaper was peeling off and smelled faintly of pizza. The carpet (which was a lovely white) was now a dark gray. Pictures  of my family were cracked and thrown everywhere. Now more than ever I realised why I left, and I knew that I had made the right  decision.

I had no heating in my small apartment, so I sat on my sofa and cuddled myself for warmth. I must have fallen asleep, as I woke up to the sound of birds tweeting. Most people would be okay with this but really, who wants birds to wake you up? As I slowly got off the sofa I heard a knock on the door. I tried to ignore it. Although some people don't take a hint, and a boy about my age walked in.

He was wearing ripped jeans to match is dark messy hair, and his trainers looked like they had never been washed. "Hey, I'm Jake this is my apartment now" he said with a cheerful tone that clearly did not match what he said. "I live here though" I replied, not trying to avoid the annoyance in my voice. "You haven't payed the rent"

"You can't just come in here and take my apartment! Where am I supposed to go?" I snapped. He started at me, you could practically see his brain working. "Why don't we share the apartment, just so we can pay the rent" it wasn't such a bad idea. "Okay, I'm Hazel by the way" I said holding out my hand. He took it and we started talking about the apartment (mostly about how bad it looked).
