The Tunnel

The tunnel. It looked as if it wouldn't end. The boy stared into the darkness that surrounded him. The walls were to close and the ceiling to low. He thought for a second. He took a step forward.

There were lights on the walls but no bulbs. The tunnel lead to nothing but darkness. It never stopped. At least that's what the boy thought. It did lead to somewhere. Somewhere that is rare to see. The home of a rat.

There were rats everywhere. Red eyed, furry beasts with fangs and fleas. Sharp claws skating on the concrete echoed throughout the tunnel. Hisses of a newcomer. The rats seemed to fade away into the dark.

The boy moved closer to the darkness. As he did so, the lights disappeared from the corners of his eyes. Soon, he was plunged into nothingness. The darkness haunted him like a nightmare. Was this a nightmare? It was so dark he couldn't tell whether his eyes were open or closed, so he covered them with his hands. His eyebrows brushed the palms of his hands. He let out a deep breath that seemed to let out all the air in his body. His legs gave way. His arm fell from their position. He felt himself falling.
