Chapter 1

I was walking home alongside Lucas and he wouldn't stop talking about the shop. Our parents own the dry cleaners and I just turned 14 so they are letting Lucas and I (Lucas who is about to turn 15) work there. “My parents keep giving me lectures about working there” Lucas said and tried to look sad. I giggled. “Well I wouldn't trust you around any chemicals” I said. He then looked at me with a look that said very funny… not.

As we walked into the shop my mum ran up to me. She was always nervous when I walked home from school which by the way I did almost everyday. Some days I took the bus. “Emerson are you alright?” she said. “Yes Mum I’m alright” I replied as always. Both my parents and Lucas’ parents were here. They were always here. When Lucas and I became friends in kindergarten our parents eventually met and became good friends. So good they decided to start a business together. We all lived in the apartments next door.

His mum Olivia led us to the back room to get us started. “We all have a surprise for you.” She exclaimed. I wonder what it was. She walked into the storage room and brought out a plastic bag. Then she pulled out two of the dry cleaners uniforms. “Cool” Lucas said. “Thanks” I said as Olivia pulled us into a hug. I had always wanted one of these tops. “You can get changed into them right now” Olivia told us.

I was getting changed in the storage room when I the door open. I jerked my head around and saw it was Lucas. Standing there staring at me half dressed.”LUCAS” I yelled. “Sorry” he said again and ran out of the room. I quickly got dressed and ran outside to yell at him some more.

“Well its not like I am some complete stranger.” He said. “I am after all your best friend”. It was bound to happen sometime”. “Fine” I said. Dismissing it.

We walked out passing multiple other staff we knew well. Once we were out our mums came out to tell us where we would be. “You guys can work at the counter as we don't want you guys touching the clothes as customers wont like that but its not that we don't trust you.” My mum said. “Well at least we don't trust one of you.” Olivia said looking specifically at Lucas. I laughed my head off. “Hey” he said embarrassed.

When my parents and I walked into the apartment we saw my 16 year old brother, Michael watching TV with my two year old sister, Ella on the floor playing with a bunch of toys. “Hey” I said to my brother. “Hi Emerson” he replied. We were really close as it was just him and me for most of my life but I love Ella just as much. “We are having the Smiths over for dinner.” That was Lucas’ family. “When don't we” Michael replied. I knew he was just joking as we all loved the Smiths.

Lucas had an older brother who was 17, David and they had another 3 year old son named Aidan. So everyone had someone to talk to.

When they arrived our parents stayed in the dining room, Michael and David hogged the TV with Aidan and Ella on the floor and Lucas and I went to my bedroom.  Lucas was taller than me with blonde hair and brown eyes. He was in very good shape even though he didn't work out. As for me I had natural sun kissed hair and green eyes. I had long legs but I was not as tall as Lucas.

We played computer games for about an hour, had dinner and then the smiths left. I would see Lucas tomorrow at school.

Chapter 2

Lucas always walked into my loft so we could walk to school so today I was ready. When he came we left and started walking to school. Our lockers were next to each other so when we got to school we walked in the same direction. At school we had many friends but we weren't one of the popular kids. And we liked that. All the popular kids were mean anyway. Lucas was in all my classes and all our classes had the meanest kids. Ugh.

At lunch we sat with all our other friends, Kate, James, Mason, Luke and Catherine. We were all really close but my best friend was Lucas. We all liked the same things and had the same interests. We were all talking when Lindsay Davids started walking up to us. She  stood there so we all ignoring her.

“Hey freaks” she said smiling down at all of us in a smug way. We all ignored her. “I don't care if you ignore me I just wanted to make sure you know where you stand freaks.” Then just like that she walked away. Thanks Lindsay.

“Hey” Lucas said calling me over. We were working in the shop this afternoon. As I walked over to him I realised he was looking at this magnificent dress. “Wow”. I was speechless as this dress was truely stunning. It was a long deep red dress with slips off the shoulder and had a material that looked so soft it was like touching a cloud. I knew it was worth a lot.“The owners coming to pick it up today” Lucas said. “I wonder who it belongs to” I said.

A few hours later a tall dark haired lady in a pencil suit walked in. Lucas served her and then went to get her dress. When he came back she looked up off her phone and then stared at me. “Are you alright miss” I asked confused. “Have you ever thought of modelling” she replied to me. “Well no” I replied confused. At that moment all our parents decided to walk out and then my mum realising that the lady was talking to me about other things then dry cleaning she walked up and said “Is there a problem miss?”

“Is this your daughter?” the lady replied. “Why yes did she do something wrong?” my mother replied a bit worried. “No of course” the lady replied and everyone seemed to relax. Then the lady continued “My name is Rebecca Robinson Modelling Agent.” Oh My Gosh. Rebecca Robinson was the best modelling agent you could find and she was here. In my parents dry cleaners asking me if I had ever considered modelling.

I would like to offer your daughter a modelling job for Quinn. Oh My Gosh. Quinn was the number 1 shop in the world. You could get anything there. Only the best models modelled there. Everyone stared at her in shock. It was my mum who broke the silence and said “um… we would need to know more before we could make a decision”. Then Rebecca said “I need to go now but I could meet you for lunch tomorrow at the local cafe around 1pm with your daughter and yourself and your husband.” “Uh sure” my mum replied. “See you then” Rebecca replied.
