This is the story of a girl that for years she forgot what smiling felt like. She was an orphan for as long as she could remember. And this girl’s name was Melody.  Melody had brown eyes, and silky brown hair that reached halfway down her back. She was beautiful. She didn’t know it, for there were no mirrors in the orphanage. Mistress thought looking in mirrors was vain (though she did it all the time). Mistress was like that. She’d make a rule then break it in less then ten minutes. As time past by, Melody become more and more beautiful. At age 11, Melody was pretty. At age thirteen, she was prettier. And at age 16, she was GORGEOUS. Before she knew it, she was the most beautiful girl in the town. When the girls in the orphanage saw that Melody was the center of attention, they thought of ways to make her life even more miserable then it already was.

Once, one girl hung a bucket over Melody’s bed, so when Melody lay down that night, She was soaked in soapy water they used while they did their chores. This was a perfect plan because there were no towels or fans to dry her off so poor Melody had to sleep soaking wet all night, and all she had to keep her warm was a thin blanket. It was made out of ripped crumpled clothes that were sewn together that Mistress gave her permission to keep as a way of staying warm during the cold winters.

One night, all the girls in the orphanage made a mess in the hall Melody would have to clean the next day. Melody was yelled at later when all her work wasn’t done. Her punishment? No dinner. But one day, something unusual happened. Melody got a letter. To you, that would not be unusual in any way, but it was to an orphan. Why? Because they never got letters.  They thought that once they were orphans nobody will care about them anymore. There was no one to send them a letter. It was a violet envelope with  Melody scrawled across the top, fancily stamped with the Queen of Dimberlee, a neighboring country. No return address. Well, there was, but it was smudged, like someone wrote with a quill and ink, but then got distracted and wiped their sleeve across the paper. But before she could start reading the letter somebody came in. Somebody they have never seen before. It was a old woman. You could tell she was rich because of what she was wearing, a beautiful long dress with flowers on the bottom and swirls on the top.

“Woah,” breathed everyone as she entered the room. Everyone, that is, but Mistress.

“Hey! You can’t just barge in! Knock!”

“Do you know who i AM?” answered the fancy lady.

“No, and I don’t care! What are you, the queen of Dimberlee?” she hissed.

“Actually, I am. Did you get my letter, hun?” asked the queen, turning to face Melody.

“Yes,” She managed to say in disbelief.

So far nobody had ever spoke to her that wormely before.

“Perhaps you could read it now,” she added after a while.

Everybody was staring at her now and she assumed that they were curious to hear what it said in it. She gently opened the letter and read:

February 29, 2016

My dear granddaughter,

It brings me joy to say that you are announced the princess Melody Evangeline Humanina the first.

Melody gasped but kept on reading.

If you would like to find out more about your past, I would be happy to talk to you.

The letter continued to talk about her life as a princess and where she would live.

Remember, you are no longer an orphan!

If you are interested in finding out more about your past why don’t you come outside the orphanage this evening and I will start with the beginning.

Love,

Queen Marabella Duminshi Lavendara Humanina The First

Melody looked up with shaking hands. “So it's true,” she whispered.

She  repeated  the part where it mentioned that she was her grandmother out loud.

“But- why now?” She asked, puzzled. “Why 16? This would've been VERY nice to know a long time ago! And why me out of all the people ”

“Come outside, dear,” the queen said, heading towards the door.

She thought about it for a moment, she was afraid of what might happen next.

But she went on and started talking to the women. “There once was a prince that married a women in the village that he loved and had a kid. And after she was born the woman was afraid that when the king will die the little girl will live in his wealth. So she took the girl to an orphanage where she knew her dear daughter would be safe.”

“And that little girl… That little girl was you, Melody. And that is how you became to be the lost princess of Dimberlee. The fate of our kingdom rests in you're hands.”

“Um, I’ll think about it.”

“Alright.”She saites realising that she can’t do anything.

“The queen climbed into her black, shiny limo. Melody could see a big screen TV, a hot tub, and a frozen yogurt machine.

“Wait! I changed my mind.”

“Climb in then!”

The ride to Dimberlee was only a hour and a half away. After all, Dimberlee is a small country. Melody helped herself to a bowl of frozen yogurt. It was amazing! Melody had never had Ice Cream before!

Soon they were at the castle. “Woah,” She thought. WOW!

Soon they were walking into her new room.

The room was a beautiful light shade of purple/pink and a bed that was decorated with flowers and had more pillows on it then she could count. She laid on them, they were stuffed with dawn and the bed itself was a dark shade of pink.

“And this is your crown.”

The crown was beautiful, like a dark lavender piece of art encrusted with lacy jewels. “Oh my GOSH!!!! OH  MY  GOSH!!!” She screamed. This is the most BEAUTIFUL thing I have EVER seen!” I’m rich!  She thought. She had never even DREAMED of being rich before!

Suddenly she had a weird feeling in her stomach. She loved her new home, but the orphanage was the only home she ever had and she was sad to leave.

“What’s wrong?” said the elegant, beautiful, perfect queen.

“I don’t belong here,” she said, “I am not a princess. I need to go home,”

“Okay. If that is what you want. Dave, please escort her home.” A guard Melody hadn’t noticed before stepped forward. She noticed he was her age, maybe a year or two older. She recognized him as the boy wielding his sword in the courtyard. He had the sword now, tucked into his belt.

“This is you're personal guard, David. Or as we call him, Dave,” the queen said.

“You're royal highness,” said Dave, going on one knee then flashing her a smile.

“Off you go, I have important business to attend too. And Melody, If you ever change you're mind, just tell Dave. He’ll be sticking around for a while if you don’t mind, you are still a princess and you need your protection.”

“Oh,” Melody wasn’t sure if she should be happy or sad. “Okay.”

“Let's be off, then! “ Dave opened the door. “Princess,” he said, waiting for her to exit. Melody stepped outside. It felt weird being in a castle, after all, she was wearing sneakers, short shorts and a purple hoodie. ference between a few days ago and now and the biggest difference was that now she knew where she belonged and that there are people counting her as a princess and that so far she never knew about her past but she was determined to find out about the future that was ahead of her. She was sitting there in the corner of the room she once used to sleep in and she called home all her life. And while she was thinking of what decision to make. After a week at the orphanage she thought that something changed. But it was actually a difo make something came into her mind. It was about that boy Dave that she had meet at the palace the day before. She thought that he was cute and before she knew it she was thinking about him all night. The next morning she knew that somehow her place was at the palace and even if she liked it or not it was her duty as a princess to support her kingdom. “Melody, If you ever change you're mind, just tell Dave. He’ll be sticking around for a while if you don’t mind, you are still a princess and you need your protection.” the queen had said. Now, where his that Dave? thought Melody. Dave was standing at the entrance of the orphanage, and when Melody burst out the doors she ran smack into Dave, sending them both to the ground. Dave stood up then helped Melody. But as he used his hand to pull her up,

“Is something wrong?” he asked.

“Huh?” asked Melody.

“Is something wrong? Why did you burst out of the door like that? Are you in danger?” He pulled out his sword.

“Oh, no.” she said. “Put that down! I changed my mind. I want to be the princess I am.”

Well, climb in then, princess.” He opened the door and helped her in.

. . .

“Time to go to the seamstress!” The queen said.

“Huh? What for?” Melody looked at her clothes. I guess they aren’t what princesses wear.

“For your Coronation of course!” said the queen. When they got there The seamstress took some measurements and while they made the dress. The fabric was white with lavender flower print. Wrapped around the waist was a chain of tiny lilac flowers. It matched her tiara perfectly!

While they waited, the queen showed Melody all kinds of high heeled shoes that could match the beautiful dress. After a while the queen found a pair of high heels that were a dark lavender with jelas that were on her tiara.

. . .

Was Melody nervous for her coronation? Maybe a little.

Before the coronation, the queen made sure that everything was perfect for her important day and invited everybody in the kingdom. The castle was decorated to Melody’s taste, and lilac flowers were everywhere. Everyone was gathering In the ballroom as Melody finished getting ready and was slowly descending down the staircase, now her hair was up in a bun, with a white small delicate Bow at the top. She was wearing six inch tall high heels with a diamond bow on the back. When she entered the room everybody was looking at her. (at the beginning she was wobbling a little since she never walked in high heels that were that high before!) She took her place at the front, and the ceremony started. After getting crowned as the  crown princess of C They had a  feast and cheered for the new princess.

“A toast!” declared the queen, holding up her sparkling cider. “A toast to the new princess!” applause rose from the crowd of people.

And that is how Melody became the crown princess of Dimberlee.

But what the kingdom didn’t know was that someone was watching... someone with a knife in hand and a hatred for the new princess....
