Chapter 1

Here are seven things you should know about potty training:

1. The younger you start potty training, the longer it will take to fully potty train your child and the more you and your child will stress out through the process.

2. Potty training will fail if you start during a major transition, such as start of a new school year, birth of a new child, or moving to a new home.

3. Girls tend to potty train faster and earlier than boys, and the first child usually takes the longest.

4. It will probably take a few months for your kid to get through the day without a diaper. Potty training at night takes much longer, sometimes it takes half a year to a whole year after your child is fully potty trained during day time.

5. Start potty training boys sitting down, not standing up. This is to avoid the mess, but it also helps them feel comfortable on the potty and teaches them to be patient while they sit and wait for pee or poop.

6. Kids who see their parents use the toilet every day usually find it easier to learn how to do it themselves.

7. Most children will have several accidents before they learn to use the toilet successfully. You as a parent needs to keep a cool head and not get frustrated. And that is not easy!
