Several Benefits of Water Conservation

You’ve heard one of the world facts: Water occupies 70% of the world. So, why should we conserve water? It’s all over the place anyway. You will be amazed by the following statistics revealed by the Bureau of Reclamation:

97% of the water on earth is salty. This means that you cannot drink this water. In fact, you cannot use at home to perform variety of tasks.

Since 97% of water on earth is salty, that leaves us with 3% of fresh water. Now, out of this 3%, only 0.5% is safe for drinking. The remaining 2.5% is in the form of glaciers, ice caps, in the soil, atmosphere or its heavily polluted.

With growing population rates all over the world, the need to consume such a small amount of water for survival is great. Therefore, it only makes sense to conserve water. Conserving water means using the unlimited water supply you currently have properly and wisely. Since most of us depend on water to survive, it’s our responsibility to keep conserve our water sources for future generations.

Water conservation is not a job meant for foresters, scientists or hydrologists. It’s a role that every human being should undertake to sustain life on this planet. Here are some of the benefits of water conservation.

It reduces water shortages

Although the need for fresh water is ever increasing due to the increasing population and expansion of industries, it’s important that our water supply remains constant. Instead of wasting water and buying it in the local shop, you can buy at Edubirdie. Even though water is recycled by earth, it does not always return to the same place it came from. By conserving water, we end up protecting ourselves during drought.

It reduces living costs

Everyone dreads paying the bills. Failing to conserve water leads to high water bills and limited water supply which will definitely affect the population and industries. Rising cost of water will lead to rise in the cost of food and other essential supplies in the market.

It preserves the environment

Reducing water consumption reduces the processing and energy required to deliver it to homes, farms and industries. And this in turn reduces pollution and increases natural resources. This is one of the environmental benefits of water conservation.

We get water for recreation

When we conserve water, we can use for recreational purposes such as swimming, playing golf, watering our lawns, gardens and washing our vehicles. Failure to conserve water will mean loss of recreation. How many of us can survive without recreation? Think about it.

It creates beautiful communities

All the places we visit regularly to do business or for fun require large amounts of water to operate. Places like restaurants, gyms and health clubs cannot survive without water. Also, hospitals and fire fighters need water to operate. Reducing how we use water will ensure we continue getting these services.
