Introduction

Aliens have lived on earth secretly for decades before Eclipse when the Y’vroi took over the world by killing most of the human race. The humans that survived now live in alien-controlled colonies in destitute and under a strict dictatorship where no human is given the opportunity to rise against The Realm. The aliens eagerly await for their King to be crowned and finish the eradication of human existence on earth.
24-year old, Kiowa Walker didn’t know if she were packing for a new life or for her execution. Kiowa had finished the final day of her forced labor work assignment training. She was going to be a seamstress in a sweaty, grimy factor for the rest of her life. That is what she thought she was destined to do, before Governor Pion pulled her aside to tell her she has captured the attention of the Y’vroi. Kiowa will be the first human allowed to enter The Realm and the first human to attend university since Eclipse. She is uncertain if the aliens will truly give her this opportunity or is it really a maleficence plot to destroy her.

The start of the new school year is filled with gossip about a human that has been allowed to attend the university because of a perfectly scored on The Test but no one knows who the human is. Gaelen is to be the first crowned King of Earth since Eclipse and the last thing he needs is to be trumped by a human. He knows he will never succeed as the future ruler. He is burdened and scarred by the secrets he hides without anyone to confide in, until the first day of school where he meets a strange girl at university who literally knocks him out of his shoes and almost down a flight of stairs. Kiowa Walker shows him he is greater than his defects. Little does he know that the woman he chooses to love is a human; will love triumph over discrimination?

Chapter 1-2

Gaelen

****** Description of home and at the dinner table with his brother and sister-in-law who he doesnt like. second brother joins later. *******

"What happened to Adam?" I asked as causally as I could, even though I was planning on asking all day. I asked in mid bit to pretend it was just a simple question.

"Adam who darling?" My mother chimed as she passed food to my father who I could feel his eyes baring down on me, he knew there was more to my questions.

"Adam the kid I used to play with."

"I dont know Honey," My mother answered, simply ignoring the fact that the woman she befriended, Adam's mother was one of her close knit friends.

"Do they live in pergatory?"

"I dont know darling?"

"Are they alive?"

"I dont know darling?"

"Why dont you know?"

"Im sorry Gaelen, We lost touch once we moved you and the boys to Sibera." She answered and took a bite of her food, chewing it delicately like a Queen. The boys meant me, Bane and Taxa. It was in that Siberian yurrit I was told that I was King and these boys were to follow me and be my aides for the rest of my life."

"Adam and his family are no longer."

"What happened to them? Did they get killed? Were they offered a home in purgatory?"

"Gaelen why are you asking these questions, does it have anything to do with that human girl that you were romantic with  at your university." I leaned back in my chair to try to not stiffen at this fact. "Dont think anything slips by me son."

"Yes. I thought she was Y'vroi." i knew it was better to fess up than to cover it with a white lie when it came to my father.

My brother snorted, "How did you mistake a human for one of us?" His wife cackled with him and I blinked my right eye in a nervous twitch to try to stop it from ringing in my ear like a catchy song.

"Tell me about this Kiowa Walker, girl. She scored a perfect score on her test and Professor Windsor raves about her ability to pass even his most difficult assignments."

"She's always studying. I assume she is just a really hard worker."

"Nah, something must have happened to allow her to get a pass.  He knew she was human so he made it easy on her." My brother desimmeated with a shrug his shoulders and reached over for a large fork full of food from the serving plate.

"Have you heard of the "Perfect but not perfect movement?"

Sure dad. We studied that in Windsor's class and in a few others

"well there seems to be a growing fade amongs the older Y'vroi in the human district that want tobe artist in the way that humans were.

"Yes i understand. Not mathmatically scientifically to define it as perfoect or art or creative but artistically perfect.

Does kiowa fall into that category. Shes smart but not truly smart.

"i dunno dad. She is pretty smart. an idiot savaunt cannot pass the test let alone get a high score.

you did, my brother snickered and my face burned red.

i want you to bring Kiowa to our home the first week after the school recess ends.

i dunno dad, she might not even come back to school

why, she will come if  I command that she returns to school.

she may come back but i am pretty sure she will stay far away from me

why

i almost killed her. when i found outshe was human.  i was going to kill her.

thats my boy. but there is more to her and i would like to meet her and then we will decide.

the idea seeing kiowa and having her near to me made my heartache, i clenched my chest.

***
My sister-in-laws loud laughter and innate conversation forced me to
retreat to my bedroom and close the door. I opened the feed to my
social digest and read about everyone's vacation develppments. Some
where in the south enjoying the forests and mountians. Others we
skiing in the north and west. I was stuck here at Point O, unable to
ever really getaway and live a life that I wanted to. Ever since I was
5 years old and whisked away to some faraway land and some strange
kids as my companions I lost my chance to dream.

I kicked my shoes off and shuffled to my bed, already thinking of
Kiowa. She allowed me to dream. She encouraged me to dream, even
though she was never allowed to dream herself. I am sure the humans
were probably kept like chattle or something similar in the colonies.
I worried about her, even though I almost did the unthinkable, I
wondered if she was warm and happy to be with her mother. I could only
assume that what she said about her mother was the truth since she
rarely mentioned her father. The files that I found on her tablet
suddenly made sense.

"Knock, knock," my other brother enter my room. He towered over me and
my entire family.

"You missed dinner." I murmered not taking my eyes off my tablet.

"Oh well. What's so interestsing?" He grabbed my tablet from my hands
and smirked as his fingers glided over the screen. "A human girl is
going to your school?"

"Yeah."

"Well, maybe not for long it looks like your classmates are ready to
murder her," he tapped on the screen to project a halogram of a meme
of a human running away from a Y'vroi but is blasted into a Looney
Tunes like oil spill. The real death was altered to make light of the
real human's death.

I tucked my hands behind my head to relax myself but the idea of Kiowa
being blasted into nothing disturbed me and then I heard her haunting
words. She rather I killed her because she loved me. She rather die in
the discomforting hands of someone she knew than to look over her back
in suspect of a stranger ending her life.

"What's wrong? Gaelen, I know there is something wrong? Is it this
girl." He popped up another halogram this time it was Kiowa ], my mouse being chased by a cat and that gobbles her up.

"Can you take me to the colony?" I didn't realize what I was saying
until I was already on my feet pulling a heavy sweater over my head.

"Ill take you. But you must take one of your men too."

"Please Anseloa. I just want to sneak into the colony to just... I
want to see if she is... I don't know."

"You love this human girl don't you?" I didn't answer. My brother sat
down on my bed. "I was in love with a human girl at one time too.
Before Eclipse. We would have married, even if it were in secret from
dad. I meet Tara Square in college and dad had strictly forbade us
from dating anyone who he hadn't approved of. At the time, I thought
he was just being a hardass dictator, but that was before he told us
what we were.

"Dad of course knew about Tara and me and I am sure he killed her and
her entire family."

I blinked back my surprise of my eldest brother's candidacy but it
also answered my most longed question about my best friend Adam and
his family. I knew now that my father probably had his family executed
as well. My mind quickly moved back to Kiowa. Professor Windsor saidd
the human's admittance into the school could be more for my learning
and leadership enrichment than the innocent opportunity to allow a
human girl a chance at a better life. I worried about the expectations
they wanted me to fulfill when it came to Kiowa and would it
eventually lead to her death. I needed to see her right away. I needed
to understand what I was feeling as long as I could just look at her
for a second, I was sure I would have my answer.

"We will take Taxa."

Prologue

Book 2 Prologue

My stomach was tied in knots so tight I could only double over and
hold myself in a tight hug. I shivered although it was warm. All I
could think about was Gaelen and his power shooting out of his hand
towards me to kill me. His hand glowed, but he stopped. Without
looking at me, he commanded me to leave my dorm room. He spared my life, but he was going to kill me. I ran out of my room and towards to campus entrance where my transport was already scheduled to take me to Ben and Maddie's.

The students on campus that already heard the news began to taunt meand toss poppy flowers at me. I couldn't cry I couldn't think about
anything but survival. I only stayed at Ben and Maddie's house a short
while before another transport arrived with a battalion of humans to
escort me to the middle of that blasted shell of human remains desert
floor. I was told to walk straight in one direction.

It was that three hour walk across the sea of what was human now
turned into an unearthly smooth surface of orange and brown layer
called NAME, that the love of my life was ready to kill me.

I shivered again knowing he was going to blast me into a endless
surface of NAME Layer. A gutteral goan passed over my lips as my
stomach turned again, the world clenched its fits around my throat
sufficating me with a tighter grip the more I fought to breath.

"Kiowa!" Kiowa! Fuck!" I heard my name beinf called but it was so far
away and I could bearly feel The rusted old car scretching to an
abrupt stop. "Kiowa breathe. Fuck what did they do to you girl
breathe!"

Pion continued to slam his hand into my back forcing my body to feel
reality that I was alive here and now.

I sat up waving my hands slightly to let him know. My eyes were watery
for some strange human reason for losing air. At least I now longer
had to hide my human nature and I was more than sure I wouldn't return
to University.

Pion quickly rounded the car to his seat. The driver's side door
creaked as more rust fell to the unnatural ground before he fused with
the car that didn't want to easily start.

I hadn't really taken in Pion and he didn't take much of me in so I
had originally thought but his eyes were juggling me and the stretch
of endless war grave pavement in front of us. He seemed just as
nervous as the first time he dropped me off, provously sweating and
jittery. I wondered what he was like once he was in the safety of his
apartment without having to worry about the I'rvoi. Was he calm, laid
back with a great sense of humor, was he romantic with his wife and
gentle with his children? Was he able to shed his knowledge of what
the aliens were threatening to do next to the colonies for the office
or did it wear on him night and day. I wondered what he did before
Eclipse, was he a elementary school teacher or a city planner with the
least of his worries being when were the I'rvoi going to turn on the
heat or electriticy to the city he was in charge of.

"You have to be strong for your mother. Whatever they have done to
you. It was all peaches and cream, you hear. You have to do what they
want you to do next if that means work in their glass towers you ask
what floor, go back to school-"

"I'm not going back."

"You are. You have 7 days off and then you are to return."

"But we have two weeks off?"

"It doesn't matter. We go where they tell us to go and you hide
whatever terrible things from your mom. You need to be strong Kiowa
for her sake."

"What do you mean?"

He didn't answer. Growing up Matthias and I used to think Pion was a
worm for a governor. So weak and spineless. Now I understood what his nervous tick was, he was bearing so much to be strong for us that wehad no idea what terrible things he was preventing or could not
prevent. He did the best he could for all of us.
