Chapter 1: The Beginning

Sleep clouded my eyes and I only distantly heard my mother yell in French; "FARAH! SI VOUS NE SORTEZ PAS DE LIT IMMÉDIATEMENT, JE VAIS JURE DEVANT DIEU, JE VAIS VOUS DÉDOMMAGER!"

Let me translate for those of you that don't know French. She was saying that she would disown me if I didn't get out of bed this instant. "Oh maman," I said to myself as I put my feet on the ground and stood up halfheartedly. "Je viens, maman!" I screamed back at her. When she didn't respond, I felt myself starting to fall asleep again. After another moment, though, I forced myself to get up. I dragged myself to the closet and threw on a baggy black sweatshirt and some faded jeans. I started down the stairs and I realized something; my house was quiet... way too quiet. I stopped on the stairs and looked over the stair rail into the kitchen- and gasped.

My mother was sitting tied to a dining chair. A napkin was stuffed in her mouth, stopping her from making any sound. Behind her, a humanoid figure stood holding a strange-looking gun to her head. I leaned forward to get a better look at the figure- and fell head first over the stair rail. I fell, and I heard my mother's muffled scream, and then a flash of blue.

I felt strong arms holding me, and then I blacked out.

Chapter 2: Prisoners

I opened my eyes to my living room ceiling, and to my mom dabbing my forehead with a wet cloth. "Maman!" I cried, sitting up. She quickly put her hand over my mouth, shaking her head and jerking it towards the dining room, where  the shadowed figure sat staring out the window. I understood- we were prisoners in our own home.

My mother nodded at the understanding in my eyes and relaxed, but only slightly. "Who is that, Maman?!" I whispered frantically. She exhaled through her nose and gestured madly to the gag still stopping her from speaking. As quietly as I could, I undid the gag and threw it on the couch beside me. I watched as my mother worked her jaw silently. Then she told me. "That is no human, ma chère," she responded frantically. I glanced through the doorway to the dining room again. "What do you mean, they aren't human?" I almost cried out. My mom started to answer, but just then the figure stood up in the dining room. My mother  quickly placed the gag back into her mouth and threw the blanket previously covering me back atop of my body. She forced me back down into a sleeping position and grabbed the wet cloth. The figure came into the living room and I shut my eyes, listening hard.

"Has she awoken yet?" came a surprisingly soft voice. A woman. I realized. But she had a weird sound that came when she made noise. A sort of clicking behind her words, like she was saying whatever she was saying in another language, and translating it into English.

I sensed my mother shake her head beside me. The woman sighed, and again, a clicking behind the sound. "Please let me know when she does." she said quietly, before walking away again. She sounds sad. I thought to myself.

I opened my eyes just before the woman entered the dining room again.

She had blue skin.

Chapter 3: The Woman With Blue Skin

I kept telling myself not to scream. That is not an alien, THAT IS NOT AN ALIEN.

My mother was watching me as I fought my instincts. "What?" I hissed at her. She sighed.

And then her features started melting and stretching, and I screamed loudly. I watched in horror as my mother became taller, smaller, her ears became pointed, her hair grew back. Strange accessories grew across her forehead and neck and she pulled her now glossy, blue-black hair back into a tight ponytail, somehow held back with nothing. There were various swirling markings all across her forehead and her blue skin shined in the sunlight.

She was magnificent.

Transfixed, I stared up at her glory until she cleared her throat and sat down again. She looked at me apologetically. "What the hell!" I shouted once I regained my voice. She flinched when I raised my arms, so I quickly lowered them again. "Oh... sorry," I said sheepishly. She pulled her legs up to her chest, and I noticed that she was wearing an all black jumpsuit. It was skin tight, and covered every part of her body except for her hands and feet and her neck and face. She looked lost.

"Why are you in my house?" I tried asking her.

"I was looking for my betrothed," she responded, her eyes shining slightly. I cocked my head. "Okay... where's my mom?!" I asked her. It was her turn to cock her head. "...Mom? What is... Mom?" she looked confused. I stared.

"Well... wheres the other human that was here?" I tried again. Without moving any other part of her body, the alien pointed to the dining room. I jumped up and ran over, peeking inside. She was in there, at the dining table with her head on her arms, fast asleep. I leaned on the doorframe with my arms crossed. I gave a small smile. The alien came up beside me.

"I don't remember the last time she looked this peaceful," I said to no one in particular. The alien glanced over at me, and stuck out her hand with a huge smile.

"Um... what are you doing?" I asked her with a raised eyebrow. The smile didn't leave her face. "I heard when humans 'shake hands', they become acquainted!" she said with way too much enthusiasm. I smiled back, just a bit, and shook her hand.

When our hands made contact, a rush of images shot through my head; me touching a dying plant, me and the alien staring down at a city in the middle of the night, blue blood, a red demon, her smiling, me crying,-

And then it was over. I kneeled over, trying to catch my breathe. She sunk down on the doorframe, her chest heaving just as much as mine. I looked at her. "What, was, that!?" I said in between breathes. She glanced up at me, her smile was not gone.

"I found you," she breathed.
