Chapter 1

For centuries, men were the sole rulers in society because women were deprived of such essential rights and opportunities as quality education, voting, expressing public opinion freely and obtaining the same official and job positions. The situation has changed dramatically during the last centuries due to the emergence of suffrage and feminist movements that struggled for gender equality and eventually accomplished their goal. Nowadays, men and women in developed countries have the same opportunities in all spheres of interests and can achieve results that are based exceptionally on personal and professional abilities. Nevertheless, some gender stereotypes still exist in society and contribute to the fact that only few leadership positions are held by females. This issue is especially topical for the political environment and the sphere of international relations. Therefore, it would be beneficial to analyze how increasing the number of women in leadership positions could impact on IR and the overall situation in the modern world.

First of all, it is essential to review the historical evidence that describes the ability of females to lead and its practical manifestations. The modern society has been created due to the efforts of men and the overall prevalence of masculinity in politics. This situation has led to the dominance of justice and fairness in political decision-making. Unfortunately, the latest manifestations of feminism are often contradictory to these ideas because many women wish to take revenge for the centuries of oppression, and often they cannot control themselves in their search for twisted justice.

For example, the laws that regulate divorce processes and sexual harassment cases in developed countries are exceptionally pro-female. Women get a half of hard-earned property after breaking the marriage and men tend to be viewed as criminals in cases that involve sexual assaults even without a clear proof of their guilt. It is evident that feminists have contributed a large part to developing and implementing such unfair laws. Therefore, the ability of women to exercise justice and make sensible decisions in politics at leadership positions can be compromised by their emotions, desires and failure to control themselves. In international relations, such attitude can lead to misunderstandings and the impossibility of finding a consensus.

It is also essential to review communicational characteristics that are inherent to women. According to the recent survey, they are more collaborative than males and tend to avoid conflicts and other unpleasant situations. On the one hand, such approach could be beneficial in maintaining peaceful co-existence between nations and negotiating problems. On the other hand, it can lead to major political instability due to several important factors. First of all, some situations require quick, decisive and even harsh thinking and acting to protect the society. For example, negotiating with terrorists and traitors that undermine the struggle of nations for stability and prosperity is completely inappropriate. These unacceptable social elements must be eliminated without pity to preserve the peaceful existence of common people. Moreover, some countries do not respect international laws, their neighbors and everyone except themselves. Recent actions of Russia that is waging a hybrid war against Ukraine is a good example of such unhealthy attitude. In such situations, world leaders need to unite against the aggressor and restrain him by any means necessary to preserve law, justice and world order. In my opinion, women would not be able to consolidate the nation and country and take decisive actions due to their collaborative and compassionate nature. Therefore, they can assist men in communicating, negotiating and finding a compromise but should not be responsible for leadership in the world.

To conclude, the lack of self-control and rationality and the inability to take decisive actions in stressful situations prevents women from obtaining the majority of leadership positions in politics and international relations. Therefore, they should assist men in building a more peaceful, stable and prosperous world.
