Prologue

I read quietly on my blue couch in the living room. Then all of a sudden, I here a loud large truck pull up into the driveway of the empty house next door. Must be the new neigbors I thought. And yes, it was. But the only thing I said wrong was “neighbors.” It’s not plural. It’s this girl. I’m assuming she’s my age. She gets a few boxes and walks to the front door. I stare her up and down. Here’s her characteristics: She is a BEAUTIFUL black girl with curly medium length dark chocolate hair. She is my height.......I think. She is strong. I thought catching a glimpse of her arms before she headed inside. I should probably introduce myself. I thought. Even though I don’t try to make friends really. I haven’t made a new friend since I was 16. I’m 19. Shocking right. It’s because I don’t want to lose my best friend Harly. She and I have been best friends since grade school. I can’t lose her. I just can’t. But, my brain has convinced me to get my pale butt over there. I hop off my couch. I head to the door. I’m now outside, watching her like a creep. She noticed me. Crap plan b! I yelled in my head. “Can I help you?” She asks. “Um......I........”. I try to say something but the words can’t fall out of my mouth. “Hello?” She waves her hand in my face. “Oh! Sorry!” I say all flustered. “No worries.” She responds. “I’m Felicity.” She says. “I’m Kathleen.” I respond. “Cool. Do you go to Pinewood University?” Felicity asks. “Yeah. Do you?” I ask. “Yeah I just transferred here.” Felicity says. “Maybe next week I can show you around the University? I ask. “I’d like that.” Felicity responds smiling. “Oh and do you need any help?” I ask her. “Actually yes that would be lovely.” Felicity says happily. I smile. “Take these stuff.” Felicity says as she points to some boxes. I walk towards the boxes. I struggle to pick all of them up. “Just do it one by one.” Felicity says as she smiles. I pick one up

After all of that unpacking we finally finished. Felicity offers me to stay over for dinner. I say yes. “So Kathleen, tell me a bit about yourself.” Felicity says taking a sip of her water. “Well I’m a lesbian.” I say. Felicity nearly chokes on her water. “Really?! I am too!” Felicity yelled in shock. I’ve never met someone else who’s a lesbian. I thought. After dinner, I head back home.
