THE BOY THEY CALLED DEBULLE

Brian DeBulle

Wasn’t very cool

In fact it’s fair to say

He was something of a fool.

He was ghastly and nasty

And often very cruel

So you’ll want to learn the downfall

Of the boy they call DeBulle.

Brian DeBulle

Was his mother’s little jewel

But he used her and abused her

And treated her like a mule.

“Make my bed – Clean my clothes”

Brian used to say.

I think you’ll want to know

How the boy was made to pay.

Brian DeBulle’s

Father was cruel.

He used to tie Brian

By his legs to a stool.

He whipped him and kicked him

And fed him just on gruel.

Life wasn’t easy

For Brian DeBulle.

Brian DeBulle

Didn’t like school

But when he was there

He thought he could rule.

He pushed the girls and tripped them up

He used to punch the boys.

He broke into the nursery

And smashed up all the toys.

The worst lesson in school

Was the lesson in the pool

Everyone’s afraid

Of an underwater fool.

He put nails on the springboard

And covered it in grease

He turned off the heating

And let the water freeze.

Brian DeBulle

Had a lock-breaking tool.

He opened the teachers’ petrol tanks

And let out all the fuel.

He took it in the library

And set light to all the books

And burnt a class’s anoraks

Hanging on their hooks.

At lunchtime in school

Brian would drool.

Perhaps that’s not surprising

When he lived at home on gruel.

He used to steal the custard

And all the Year 8 stew

Everyone went hungry

But there was nothing they could do.

The teachers in the school

Had a meeting about DeBulle.

“What on Earth do we do

When he disobeys our rule?

He’s a bully and a villain

Of that there is no doubt

Let’s call in his parents

And sort this young boy out.”

Brian DeBulle’s

Mother came to school.

“I’m afraid we have to tell you

That he’s broken every rule.

He picks on everybody

And our word he won’t obey.”

“Oh deary me young Brian

What will daddy have to say?”

When the old man DeBulle

Returned home from Goole

He found young Brian ready

Chained to the stool.

He said, “Brian I’m sad

But you’ve been a bad lad

And we all know what happens

When you upset your Dad.”

Brian DeBulle

At last returned to school

After three weeks in intensive care

In the hospital.

But he hadn’t learnt his lesson

The boy was just the same

Lesson after lesson

To him it was a game.

One day a new boy came to school

He was bigger than Brian

And twice as cool.

He said, “My name’s Bernard – Bernard the Bear

Nobody likes me and I don’t care.

Now who’s the top dog in this school?”

And everyone cried out

“It’s Brian DeBulle.”

“Brian DeBulle

I think you are a fool

I challenge you now

Outside for a duel.

Outside at three thirty

By the queue for the bus

Because this school ain’t big enough

For the both of us.”

The sheep flocked together

Out by the school gate.

Brian was there

Awaiting his fate.

At last out came Bernard

Looking too mean.

A tremendous horrendous

Fighting machine.

“Bernard Bernard”

All the sheep cried.

No one called for Brian

There was no one on his side.

Bernard glared at Brian

“Now it’s time to pay”

But Brian didn’t wait around

Brian ran away.

“Bernard Bernard”

All the sheep sung

“Bernard Bernard

You made Brian run

Bernard Bernard

Rah! Rah! Rah!

Bernard you’re a hero

Bernard you’re a star.”

The next day in school

Bernard’s word was rule.

He was bigger than Brian

And twice as cruel.

He pushed the girls and tripped them up

And then he punched the boys.

He broke into the nursery

And smashed up all the toys.

Bernard the Bear

Just did not care.

Brian was a bully

But he didn’t compare.

Brian was nasty

Brian was a curse

But Bernard was just evil

He was ten times worse.

“Bernard Bernard”

Three sheep cried,

“Bernard Bernard

Aren’t you on our side?”

“Of course I’m not.” Said Bernard

With his ghastly glare

And picked them up and hit them

And kicked them down the stair.

The teachers who were there

Had a meeting about the Bear.

“What on Earth do we do

With this boy who does not care?

He’s a bully and a villain

Of that there is no doubt

Let’s call in his parents

And sort this young boy out.”

A meeting was arranged

But his parents didn’t come

They weren’t too bothered

About their thug like son.

“I blame the teachers”

Said his Dad to his Mum

“It’s a storm in a tea cup

He’s only having fun.”

The weeks went by

And Bernard got badder.

The sad sheep soldiered on

Slowly getting sadder.

“Someone will save us”

Some were heard to say.

“Somebody will come to school

And help to save the day.”

One day an old boy

Came back to school.

He was smaller than Bernard

And not quite as cruel.

In fact he was no longer

Cruel at all.

Something had happened

To Brian DeBulle.

He said, “I’ve had time to think

Since my Dad went away.

I’m coming back to school

And this time to stay.

I know I won’t beat Bernard

If I fight him alone

But if we all stand together

We can send that poor boy home.

“Get lost DeBulle”

All bleated the sheep.

“Why should we trust

A cowardly creep?

We remember the day

When you once held sway.

Now Bernard’s in charge

And he made you pay.”

“I don’t want to rule”

Said Brian DeBulle.

“I want us to be happy

Together in school.

My bullying days

Are just history.

And so will be Bernard

If you all stand with me.”

The next day in school

Was the lesson in the pool

The sheep were in the shallow end

With the boy DeBulle.

Bernard burst in

In through the gate

“Well well” He said

“If it isn’t my mate.”

He jumped in the pool

With a thunderous splash.

“Oh dear” Said a Sheep

“That’s a little bit rash.”

“Oh dear” Said another,

“Well what do you know

If it isn’t big Bernard

Our most hated foe.”

“What are you doing?” Shouted Bernard

At the oncoming sheep.

“What are you doing with DeBulle?

He’s a wimp and a creep.

What are you doing?” He yelled

As the sheep gathered round.

“What are you doing?” He screamed

As they attacked without sound.

Brian DeBulle

Was now very cool

He had lots of good friends

Around him at school.

Micky Mutton, Ricky Ram

As well as Erica Ewe

And Willy and Wally the Woolly Twins

That’s just to name a few.

All Brian had ever wanted

Was someone to call a friend

And now it’s clear he’s got a few

This tale can finally end.

But what of Bernard you’re asking yourselves

What of Bernard the Bear?

Well Bernard was never seen again

And do we really care?
