The Forgotten Remembered

Aussie Gronk wasn't exactly what you would call popular. Which, in her defense, is what she wanted. Kind of.

It wasn't easy being the only one in the school who didn't hate President Gronk. Because, well... you get the picture. But Aussie was not going to stand by as her father was bashed. Even if that did mean losing, or more accurately preventing, friends.

"You aren't alone, Aus. I mean, you're alone on the whole daughter of the president thing, but not when it comes to social status. Look at me. I'm a nobody. I'd die for any of these jerks, but they don't even know my name." God, Emily never knew when to shut up about her dad.

"Would you stop saying my dad is president! People could hear."

Said the girl sitting at a whole table with one person, no one in ear shot. Nearby, Megan Dune rolled a meatball on the ground, directing it to Aussie's feet.

"Besides, you'd die for them because you're nice. Unlike the educationals." Aussie quickly kicked it back.

Emily perked up. With a smerk, she leaned in close. "Oh, we are talking about the educationals, are we? How scandalous. Are you talking about that awful Megan, or the dapper Jaylen?"

Aussie grew crimson in the face. Don't be behind me. Don't talk so I know you are behind me. DON'T BE BEHIND ME!

"Oh, hey Aussie. Looking sharp... really, it's like you poked my eyes out! I wish you did!" Jaylen sneered, putting on a show for the friends swarmed around him. Each one took a turn dumping a slob of sweet potato from their lunch trays on Aussie's head. They all made doofus remarks as they left, copying their leader like faithful idiotic dogs. Their confident strut as they walked away and joined Megan and her friends made Aussie want to scream.

"Shut up," Aussie warned Emily. "I can see it in your eyes that you are about to say something about Jaylen, so just shut up." A blob of potato rolled down her pale cheek.

A smile broke across Emily's lips. She fought back chuckles as she replayed the throwing of potato in her head, and the best part, Aussie saying nothing as it happened due to Jaylen's charming good looks. "Wow. You are falling for an educational, Aussie. Just...wow."

"I said shut up!"

Aussie rose and gathered her things, prepared to leave. On a whim the excitable girl grabbed a huge, soft handful of potato, deftly maneuvered her arm backwards, and preyed her hand to eye coordination didn't suck as much as the P. E. coach claimed. The back of Megan's head was an easy enough shot, considering her head of curls.

Ha, Aussie thought. With those curls, a quick way to remove potato will be impossible!

On a count of three, Aussie decided as she tried to ignore Emily's encouraging eyes.

Fire!

The sticky ball of mush rocketed through the air, dodging nothing, just flying. About five students moved out of the way, and when they did they watched it travel towards its target. The whole thing seemed to go in slow motion.

Plop! Eeeek! Get it off get it off!

"Hahahahahaha!" The cafeteria erupted into laughter, and even Jaylen couldn't help but snicker.

Megan sprung out of her seat, potato fleeing from her hair in the quick motion. "Who did this! Who?!" The determined girl angrily scanned the area, and since she was too petrified to move, the only girl in the cafeteria standing up with her arm in a throwing motion was pretty much expected to be the culprit.

"You..." Megan muttered slowly and in a deep voice. "You think you can mess with me? I'll end you. You will no longer be that girl no one talks to, the girl that's just forgotten. I will make you remembered. People will know you and talk to you. We will search you up, we will find information. You will be popular in a sense in which everyone knows you and hates you. I will make your pathetic little life miserable. I will-"

"Pardon the interruption, but the bell is broken. You are excused from lunch."

Aussie didn't hesitate to get up and leave.

In her next class, science,  a sweet chubby girl named Brooke rushed to take the desk next to Aussie. "Wow, you really got that Megan girl going. Everyone is talking about it. Where'd you get the guts? I sure couldn't do that, I'd faint from the adrenaline rush. I felt weak and sick just watching you hurl that sticky ball at her!"

Aussie blushed. "Oh, thanks Brooke.  And, um...maybe you shouldn't use the phrase 'sticky ball' around other people."

Brooke looked confused and was clearly trying to understand in her head. Bored, she gave up.
