Chapter 1

“Sometimes it takes a wrong turn to get you to the right place.”  -- Mandy Hale

----------------------------

Turning my head from right to left slowly, I stirred. I had a horrible headache; it was like someone was drilling into my head. I looked around, trying to get a clue where I was. I tried to move my hands, but I failed because they were tied  to a pipe in this damp storage room.

The storage room was small and had many shelves filled with dusty boxes and random things.. brooms, suitcases, and some old creepy toys. Those are the things I saw from where I was sitting.

Feeling a little bit chilly, I brought my knees up to my chest and rested my head on it. I couldn't think straight because of the pounding pain in my head. I sighed and tried to remember what had happened to me before I got here, how did I end up here, but I couldn't remember. Tears welled up in my eyes, and I couldn't stop them from streaming down my face.

Suddenly, the door flung open, making me jump and bringing me back to earth. I looked up and saw a thick man with a black beard. He came closer to me, crouched and smiled an awful and evil smile.

"You're finally awake, princess," he stroked my hair. "Aww, why are you crying, are you scared sweety?"

I gathered up my courage, raised my head up high and blurted out: "No!"

"Well you're going to be," he laughed his evil laugh

I just sat there glaring at him as he laughed,

"It's such a shame; a beautiful young girl like you will be dead soon," he chuckled.

"Of course, the boss is going to take whatever he needs from you before he chops your pretty head off,"

I couldn't take his dirty talk anymore, so I instinctively raised my right knee up to my chest and then using all of my strength, I pushed my foot towards his crotch.

He cried out in pain when my foot met his groin. He twisted and turned on the cold floor with his hands grabbing his now bruised area.

I realized it was a bad idea, when he lifted himself up and sat on his knees. Glaring at me with red eyes, full of anger. He came closer to me and grabbed a handful of my hair. I screamed in pain and tried to kick him again, but this time he was sitting by my side.

"You think you're so tough that you can hit me, little girl," his breath was harsh and it smelled so bad. I tried to move my head away from him, but I failed.

"What's up princess? can't defend yourself now, can ya?" he laughed.

"Ow," I managed to say.

"Yeah exactly,"

"Let go of me, asshole," I struggled with my eyes closed.

"Gladly," he let go of me.

I didn't realize I was holding my breath until he let go, and I was struggling for air. I opened my eyes slowly and looked at him. He had given me yet another nasty look before he slapped me so hard on the face.

Feeling the stinging pain, I let out a scream. My head turned to my right side in the result of the strong smack; I also tasted my blood in my mouth. Tears ran down my cheeks in silence as I felt anger and fear coming over me. I was helpless and under this man's mercy.

"What are you going to do now, princess?" he said. "Not feeling so tough anymore, huh?"

I just kept quiet to avoid getting hit again. He suddenly reached behind my back and released my hands from the rope. I rubbed my wrists and kept staring at my hands. He quickly and firmly grabbed my arm and pulled me up. He dragged me out of the small storage room and into a long hallway, he kept going right and left until we were in front of a huge white door.

He knocked on it twice and waited for a response. After a few seconds, he opened the door gently, shoved me into the room and then went outside of the room and closed the door.

After I had watched the large man get out and close the door, I turned to look at where I was. It was warmer than the storage I was in, on the left, there were two armchairs and a fireplace. The hardwood floor was shiny and clean; The ceiling was high with a chandelier hung in the middle of it. Facing me, was a large mahogany desk with a fancy leather chair. Behind it, were two huge bookcases, filled with old looking books and some trophies. On my right side, there were two huge windows and a square table for meetings.. I guess!

I snapped back to reality when I heard a deep voice; I looked closely to where the sound came from and saw a man, in his 30's maybe, sitting in the large leather chair. I didn't notice him before!

"Come closer," he said.

I swallowed a huge lump in my throat and carefully took two steps ahead. I stopped and looked at him, he placed his elbows on the desk in front of him, looking like he's interested in what he's seeing.

He motioned with his hand for me to come closer, and I did as I was told. He stood up, and I stopped close to his desk. He came closer to me and started examining me, looking at me closely, and it was a chance for me to look at him too.

He was tall with broad shoulders, his hair is a copper color, and his eyes were piercing blue. He looked posh, wearing a navy blue suit.

He looked down at me and smiled, making me switch my gaze to the shining floor.

'I guess he's the boss of that awful man and the reason I am here, but what does he want with me?' I thought while biting my nails.

"What's your name?" he asked gently.

I kept staring at the floor without replying, so he came a step closer to me and lifted my chin up with his two fingers till I was staring again at his beautiful blue eyes. I swallowed the fear that formed in my throat; he was intimidating to me; His bulky body, his deep husky voice and his touch. Although he was gentle, until now, but somehow he exuded eeriness.

"Even pets have names," he said impatiently, staring deep into my eyes.

"L..Li..Lily" I stuttered in fear; I don't know why he had that effect on me and what's worse was that he can see it.

"Don't be afraid Lily," his voice changed, it was hoarse.

As he said those words, I gathered up what's left of my courage and lifted my head up high in confidence, or at least that's what I thought.

"I am not!" my voice was unnecessarily high.

He chuckled at my sudden outburst, I guess he found it amusing. He placed his hand back in his pocket and went back to sit down on his fancy leather chair.

"your room is ready, and there are new clothes too, Lisa; the housekeeper will call you when dinner is on the table in the living room, " he paused for a minute.

"And I expect you to dress well for every meal," he explained calmly.

But I didn't understand anything he said, so I stood there like a fool with a giant, invisible question mark on my head.

He understood right away, so he crossed his arms over his chest and looked quizzically at me.

"How much of yesterday do you remember?"

"N..Not much," I bit my lower lip and looked down.

"I see," he sighed. " please sit down," he motioned at one of the armchairs in front of him.

I walked carefully towards the armchair and sat down slowly. When I was comfortable in my chair, I looked up at him, and he was looking intently at me, watching my every move with his long forefinger touching his lower lip.

My heart skipped a beat at the sight of him touching his lips and the way he looked at me.. was just distracting.

"Did my men treat you well?" he asked  after a long moment of silence.

"No," I blurted out when the images of the brief encounter with the bearded man came to my mind.

"Who? Garet? The guy who escorted you here?"

"Escorted! more like dragged and shoved me here," I chuckled and looked at him, he had an impassive look on his face, so I swallowed and stared down again at my hands.

"How's your head?" he asked.

I furrowed my eyebrows, how did he know my head hurts?

"You tripped and hit your head last night when my men tried to get you.. they told me," he explained.

Surprised, I opened my mouth slightly, and he smiled. "H..how did you know.. W..What I was thinking?" I stammered, and he chuckled at my astonishment.

"You're not hard to read, Miss Jones, your face shows your emotions," he smiled.

I looked down at my tangled hands and didn't say a word. I have so many questions, but I don't know where to start and my head is banging. I touched my forehead as to steady the throbbing pain.

"You should eat something and take an Advil, then we can talk," he said firmly.

"No, it's ok.. I.. I need to know, how did you know my last name but not my first? Where am I and why am I here? And .. more importantly, Who are you?" I asked softly.

"You'll get your answers after you've eaten,"

"Please, I .. I need to know,"

he rested his forearm on the leather chair arm and sighed: "You're here because of your father's mistakes, so I know your last name cause I know your father, as for the other questions, you'll find out the answers later,"

I swallowed a huge lump in my throat, and I felt my heart skip a beat. 'Oh no.. my father has a lot of mistakes and enemies, what did he do now?' I thought while biting my bottom lip.

I didn't realize he was looking at me intently until I raised my head up, and our eyes met. We had gazed into each others eyes for a brief moment before I turned my gaze back down to my hands.

"What did he do?" My voice was small.

"He owes me some money that he refuses to pay.. among other things," he explained.

"Well, maybe he doesn't have the money.. Right now," I said softly, making excuses for my reckless father. But he didn't like it one bit, he arched his eyebrow and shook his head in disagreement.

Placing his hands flat on the desk, he stood up: "You should eat, Jack will escort you to your room to get dressed and then we can eat,"

"Am I your hostage?" I blurted out.

He smiled his charming smile and said: "you can label it as you wish, but I don't have a name for it,"

"I..I feel like I am,"

"Well then you are," he said firmly and I understood that it was his way to end the conversation. He stood up with hands in his pockets and a stern look on his face. Avoiding any conflict, I kept quiet and went with Jack to my room, he said I'm going to know everything later.. I'm hoping he'd tell me my fate at dinner. 'That'll be interesting,' she thought.

Jack was way better than that Garet man, he handled me with respect, I guess he was given orders. He escorted me to my room which was far away from The Boss's fancy office. He opened the door for me "If you need anything miss Jones, I'll be waiting for you here," he pointed at a spot next to my door and gave me a small smile. I nodded, smiled back at him and went into my room, afraid of my future in this place.
