Peter Baines was born and raised in Queensland, Australia. Having been strongly influenced by his bush adventurer father, it was unsurprising that he flew from the nest at an early age to experience the world. This started with a nine-year term as a weapons electronic technician in the Royal Australian Navy which included a three-year stint in Britain on Royal Navy submarines during the Cold War. On discharge from the navy back in Australia in 1971 he began a successful career with a global enterprise where he honed his management skills, preparing him for a future of senior executive positions in the not-for-profit sector. It was during this time that he began writing newspaper editorials, however story telling didn’t start until retirement in 2015. Peter and wife Barbara, who live in the Shire of Redlands in Queensland have a son, a daughter and five grand-children.
'Dead End at Barra Bay' is Peter’s third novel.
His first two, 'Deep Down Under' and 'Blunder Down Under' were based on life experiences in the Navy. Both were self-published in 2018 through Kindle Books.
Published in 2019 and now also on the bookshelves is a first-person rewrite of Deep Down Under, re-titled as 'They Called Me Bondi'.
