Keeping the Crust: A Roll of the Dice

I see you’ve found this little corner of the internet.

Did you get here through intention? Or by chance?

Regardless, we’d like to welcome you to our world of snackable genre fiction.

In Issue #1: A Roll of the Dice, we explore stories of gaming, gambling, and the game of chance in life. As such, we would like to present six (6) stories from our full collection, decked out with concept art by guest artist, Max Loh.

We hope you’ll enjoy the stories as much as we did while writing them.

Pick Your Poison, Please

By D.M. Jewelle

I’m a nice person, really, I am.

People talk about many things. I’m not sure if it’s the Asian way to talk about others as if they’re invisible. The whispers and glances are tiring to ignore.

I’m not mad; it’s just my smile.

I’m a charitable soul, bubbling over with consideration for others. The most brilliant scientific minds argue compassion hinders progress, but comfort should always come first considering the magnitude of your sacrifice.

But dissection can be so boring. Remember the survey where you wrote down how you’d like to be sedated? I’ve assigned your answers to a dice. That way you get the element of surprise AND the familiarity of comfort knowing you picked your choice of anaesthetic!

What’s that? You want to get knocked out really quick?

Here’s hoping you get a good number.
