Introduction

  Hi!
Let me just remind you that this book is fiction.  So, like if I mess up on a couple facts from Percy Jackson, please don't kill me.  This book is basically about a girl named Nikki.  Nikki is an interesting kid.  She's nice and has a couple friends, but if you're mean or a bully, then she goes mad.  Weird things happen, like how a girl named Molly disappeared, never to be seen again when she dared to torment Nikki's best friend, or a boy named Brendan who went mysteriously insane after taking lunch money from all of the kinder-gardeners.  Nikki was half worshiped- half feared at school, but everyone's number one rule was to not mess with Nikki Telemonti.  Nikki didn't even understand her own power over others, but she kept calm.  Usually she was cool and quiet.  But sometimes she would become a sorceress, a mage who played with her victims like puppets, a snake who sucked the life out of her enemies, something ugly beyond that kind, pretty girl.  She hardly understood, really.  Nikki was too scared.  Some days she saw monster like creatures, all of them racing after her.  Nikki's dreams were filled with ugliness and death, being chased by her Father, running running running...

No one in school understood that Nikki couldn't control her own strength.  Even her old friends were scared, making excuses then running away as soon as they could, thinking that they would be next, subsumed to madness and torture.  That's why 11 year old Nikki was sitting in the corner with her best friend Aaron while the class was on a "Trip of the year" to Manhatten.

I Turn My Classmate Into a Snake (A Harmless Garden, Thanks for Asking)

Away in the corner, that's where I had to be.  As far as my classmates thought, that was where I freaking deserved to be, alone and isolated cause of the stupid things I had done in the past.  At least I had Aaron, the lanky boy with shaggy blonde hair, but sometimes I wondered if he was here because if he wasn't he would end up being bullied like I used to be, but now everyone's afraid of me, so that subject doesn't apply to him now that he hangs out with moi.  Aaron glanced at me.  "What time is it?"  He asked, his voice higher then other boys his age, but again, like usual.  I didn't answer for a second, turning my head so he couldn't see my face.  "I dunno."  He frowned.  "But you have a watch."  He didn't get that I wanted to be alone.  "Aaron, you have to look at a watch to read it!"

Aaron shut up after that.  Good.  I sighed and watched the other kids in my class, the Normal kids walk around, chatting to one another simply.  Hah.  Easy for them.  They aren't considered a monster.  I didn't look like much, I'm a little short for my age and thin brown hair, an indigent face, with sharp violet eyes.  At least, they're violet to me.  My old friends use to shake their heads, saying that my eyes were definitely blue.  They would tease me for being a dreamer, and then we would move on to another subject.  Hah.  Friends.  To think that it was such a distant word now made my stomach churn.

I stared at the kids for a little while longer.  Until she noticed, that is.  Roberta Manectryc.  Always thought she was better then everyone, but fortunately for her, people didn't get cursed when they upset her.  Actually, that's a good thing for everyone, or else a lot of people would be cursed right now.

"Look who it is,"  She said, taunting me.  "the weirdo."  Her goons burst out laughing, chorusing like sick hyenas.  I rolled my eyes, but ignored them.  Roberta seemed to be disappointed she didn't get a reaction.  "Hey, I'm talking to you!  Or are you to dumb to hear me?"  More laughing.  The sound was hurting my ears and I was getting sick of this.  "Roberta.  Shut up."  She pursed her lips, scrunching them up like a balloon with no air.  "Who's gonna make me?  Your Daddy?"  I gritted my teeth.  "He's not my father."  Roberta smirked.  She really closely resembled a hyena.  "Oh, look, now who's being mean."  She thrust out a newspaper so everyone could see it.  "You mean that thing isn't your father?"

I tried not to explode.  The title read, Criminal Escaped from Jail, Police on the Scene.  Could this Threaten Manhattan?  "Shut up.  Now."  Roberta made a face.  "Ooh, touchy!  Looks like you have a lot of your Dad in you!"  Aaron finally got the bravery to stand up for me.  "D-don't ta-talk to Nikki like that!"  He stuttered.  I gave him a look of gratitude, but kept my ground.  "What he said.  Pick on someone else, you snake."  Roberta threw up her arms.  "Oh, I'm so scared!  Please, o great and powerful Nikki spare me!"  She exclaimed sarcastically.  "I don't believe in spells and curses.  But what I do believe in is that you're a daughter of a creep criminal and you don't belong in our school!"

That.  Was.  To.  Far.  I could only watch as her goons pointed at me, laughing like a horde of hyenas while Roberta smirked at me as if she had won the lottery.  Feelings were thrust into my head like a spinning tornado, the ground was an earthquake of hatred and my head was trying to grab a hold of right and wrong and I couldn't think or see or fear and I froze, speaking words I didn't understand.

"Eíste fídi, tóra pigaínete kai kalýptete tin ntropí sas!"

Roberta stopped laughing, her mouth twitching unnaturally, trying to speak words she could no longer say.  Then she began to change.  Roberta skin peeled off like a coat, revealing green scales underneath.  Her tongue lengthened and stretched to become split.  She shrank, her hair sucking into her skull as Roberta's head grew scales as well.  When the transformation was complete, all was left of Roberta was a tiny garden snake.

Aaron screamed.  I processed what I just did.  I turned Roberta into a snake!  Eíste fídi, tóra pigaínete kai kalýptete tin ntropí sas means... "You are a snake, now cover up your shame!"  I didn't know why I knew that, I just did.  Aaron turned, fear in his eyes.  I waited for the rest of the students to react, waiting for me to get put in prison with my dad, and never turn anyone into a snake ever again.

Surprisingly, no one else reacted.  The rest of the kids rubbed their eyes and blinked like they had been under a trance.  Even the popular girls looked around like they had no idea what was going on.  "Ew, a snake!"  Alicia said, but she didn't seem to notice that the same snake used to be her classmate.  "Where's Mr. Ticyte?"  Brendan asked.  "It's been a while."  Aaron looked as shocked as I was.  "How-"

Mr.  T walked into the room, cutting Aaron off.  "Sorry guys, had to talk to the Bus Driver.  Did I miss anything?"  I blinked.  Missing anything was an understatement.  "No, it's just been real boring."  A quieter girl, Dana chirped.  The rest of the class nodded their heads, oddly synchronized.  Roberta hissed, then slided towards Mr. T.  His eyes darted to the small snake.  Mr. T glowered at it, and flicked it away.  "Shoo.  Shoo."  Roberta retreated and slunk into a mouse hole.  Some of the students breathed sighs of relief.  "Come on, let's go."  Mr. T said, and he walked out of the room.  The rest of the class followed him.  Aaron and I stayed behind, exchanging looks.  What just happened?

He took a step away from me.  I cringed.  Was even he scared of me now?  "How did you do that?  Why did you do that?  And why are our classmates acting like nothing happened."  I swallowed my feelings.  "I don't know."  I looked at him.  "Could you understand it?"
"Understand what?"  He replied.  "What I said to Roberta."

"Duh.  You said, You are a snake, now cover up your shame."  I nodded.  "Yeah, I said that, but Aaron, I think I said that in Greek!"  Aaron was taken aback by this.  "I-"
"Aaron, what color our my eyes?"  Aaron stared at them.  "Violet, I guess."  I was stunned.  "You can see that they're violet?"  He nodded.  "Why?"  I started to speak.  "Aaron, everyone I have ever met have always claimed that my eyes were-"
I was interrupted.  Loud sounds came closer to us.  Aaron paled.  "What's that?"  The sounds got closer and closer.  "I guess we find out now."  I stammered, fear in my voice.  We waited for a few seconds, backing up slowly.  Then something came from the door.  It gave a sliding sound, and it hissed sharply.  Aaron turned to me.  I froze, not knowing what to do.  Had Roberta come back to avenge herself or something?  I had no idea.

I tugged on Aaron's hand.  "Let's go!"  Before he could react, a giant creature burst through the door.  It was the largest serpent I had ever seen, an elastic back with dark, green scales.  It had razor sharp fangs and glowing yellow eyes, but the strangest part about it was it's two large, ram like horns on it's head.  The creature roared at us, and charged.

I Almost Get Eaten by The King of All Garden Snakes- Ooh, Look, An Oversized Goat

My first instinct was to dodge.  I tackled Aaron to the ground, the monsters tusks grazing my thigh.  The creature ran into the wall, and we had some time before it could pull itself out.  I brushed my self off, then helped Aaron up.  "Nikki, what do we do...?"  He mumbled.  "Am I... Dreaming?"
