Chapter one: Journal

Sat. October 15th

Hoofbeats beat like thunder against the ground. A creature as beautiful as the night and stars ,mane as wavy as the ocean, eyes like small curious moons ,tail as soft as silk, a spirit as wild as wild ever has been. A horse. A wild horse running across freedom's flag of glory. My name is Lenora Shay and I think horses have rights just as humans like me do. I believe horses have value in life and they should be able to roam in the areas that they call home. Farmers and other people who have cattle slaughter wild horses for eating the grass that they always ate way before the people came. I don't really understand,it's so cruel...They should know that that land is the horses' home and I know that a law says that shooting mustangs is alegal but I think shooting all horses is too. I have a horse, her name is Cookie. I read books about them, watch tv shows and movies about them,I dream of them and think of them,I also draw them. I love them for a lot of reasons, they're just so graceful every step every neigh and every mane flying horse is my dream. I live  in the country with my dad, Jerel, my mom died when I was 2 and I'm 11 now. I close my journal and I turn off my lamp. I cuddle with my horse stuffed animal Fudge and I wrapped my covers around me and soon I fall asleep into dreams.

Chapter Two:Horses

I ducked my head and ran to my barn to see to Cookie. I tugged and pulled the door open and I ran in. I was soaked. But I was used to it anyway. I closed the door to keep warm air inside the barn. Cookie nickered in delight when she saw me. I smiled, "Hey girl, how are you today?" I walked over and I rubbed her face. She had deep curious eyes with a short mane and tail. She was a sorrel with one white sock on her back left foot and a star on her forehead. Her forelock usually covered it but I always softly pushed  it over to the side. Her breed is a Spanish Pasifino American Quarter Horse. I got her 3 years ago from one of my dad's  ex-wife's friend. She was for free because his grand children didn't ride her anymore and he thought she was a useless mare. But she was more than just a mare or a horse, she was a best friend. After me and her saw each other I wanted to ride her immediately but I couldn't. Dad said to get acquainted. So I followed her around, read books to her, talked to her and I showed her her new tack. She didn't like the tack very much though so I waited for 2 months until we really new each other. Then one day I caught her and I took her for a ride. She was a little jerky with her head, but the rest of her was graceful and perky. From then on we spent years together and we still are. I have two more mares in the barn and a gelding. One mare is a buckskin paint horse named Ginger. She is a high tempered horse but nice to ride, the other mare named Saphire was a blue roan apaloosa, and she is a mean horse! I'll tell you she broke my leg when I was 8 and it was not fun. Her breed is a Morgan. The gelding's real name is Watch Me Fly but we call him Woody and he is a red roan. He has signature papers of being an AQHA champion. He's a really sweet horse but when you don't ride him for a while he gets a little sour. His dam which is his Mom was a Kentucky Derby winner, and his sire which is his father, was also a AQHA horse champion. Man, he's one fancy thoroughbred half quarter horse. I went into the feed room and I scooped up their feed and I fed Woody, Ginger, Saphire, and Cookie. I brushed Cookie down while she was eating. "Lenora! The bus is here you're gonna be late!" I look up from what I'm doing and I quickly kiss Cookie on her star and I open her stall door and close it then I run to the door and slide it open and in a hurried sprint I run out. "Bye sweet! I love you!" dad says as he throws me my lunch. "I love you too dad! Bye!" i smile and runs to the bus as soon as it pulls up. My bus driver Mr.Kulbeth opens the door and I rush in and sit down. He smiles at me and I smile back and he closes the door and the bus starts moving. Time for school...
