Chapter 1

Saturday, May 17th 2014, 6:00 AM

My phones ringtone blared into my ear; irritated I picked up my phone and saw that it was my brother Matt calling. “Hey Matt, did you forget again that there is a two hour time difference? Why are you calling so early?”

“Sorry Taylor, I was just calling to make sure you hadn’t forgotten that you’re suppose to fly out to see me today. I mean, you have forgotten two times before, I just wanted to make sure, sorry I called you so early.”

“Hey, don’t try to guilt trip me! I’ve been busy with work and life. And for your information I haven’t forgotten about my flight, however I was counting on getting to sleep in a bit since I was up till 3 am this morning.”

“ Okay, good. I just really miss seeing you since I’ve been away at basic training. Again, I’m sorry for waking you up early; I will try harder next time to remember the time difference. By the way, my good friend Tyler wanted me to invite you to go to a club with us tonight, since it’s the weekend we are allowed to go off campus and have some fun. Please say you’ll come, I don’t want you to stay in your hotel room alone all night when you could be out having fun catching up with me and meeting my friends.”

“I will plan on going with you guys, just so long as your friends aren’t jerks, and as long as I’m not wiped out from the flight. I miss you too, I’m sorry I’ve missed the last two flights out there.”

“It’s okay, I’m just glad you’re actually coming out today. Anyway I will let you go and get some sleep, I will meet you at the airport with Tyler and he will drive us over to your hotel so you can unpack and then we can all head out to the club.”

“Okay, thanks! See you later today. Love you!”

“Love you too sis.”

With that I ended the call and set the alarm clock on my phone for 9:30 AM, when I actually wanted to get up at. I curled back up in my sheets and fell into a deep sleep.

9:30 AM

My alarm jolted me out of my peaceful sleep; groggily I rolled out of bed. I than sat on the edge of my bed and checked my texts, facebook and instagram before deciding I really should hurry up and get ready. Even though my flight doesn’t depart till 11:05 AM I wanted to get there early to check in my luggage and get through the seemingly endless security measures the airports have.

I hurriedly put on some black pants; a long sleeved white-cropped shirt, and my tan UGG boots. I than preceded to quickly curl my hair and apply my makeup, by the time I was done it was 9:50 AM.

I shoved my makeup, curling iron, and hairbrush back into my suitcase, I than dragged my two ginormous suitcases down the stairs outside of my apartment to my black Hybrid Toyota Camry.

After shoving my suitcases into the back of the car I went back up to my apartment, I ran around quickly and grabbed my phone, purse and a granola bar. I locked up my apartment and then got into my car.

After I got out of the apartment complex I got onto the highway, within fifteen minutes I had reached the entrance to the airport.

Signs directed me to the parking garage for people who were going to keep their cars there while away on their trip. As I pulled up to the garage a sign on a machine directed me to press a button and grab a ticket that came out to put on my windshield that I would then later turn in to pay for keeping my car there.

I quickly found a parking spot, after parking my car I lugged my two suitcases out of the back of my car and followed the signs hanging from the ceiling of the garage that led me to the main entrance of the airport.

By the time I had checked my luggage in and passed through all the security measures I had all of ten minutes to get to the gate where my flight would depart.

I found a screen that had the time of flights departures and arrivals, what gate they were at, and what the status of the plane was. Quickly I found the gate number of the plan I was suppose to be on, I found that it was at the other end of the terminal, I frantically started running, not wanting to miss my flight again, on the overhead speakers I head a female flight attendant calling for anyone who was suppose to be on flight 475 to quickly get to the gate before they depart.

By the time I reached the gate I was suppose to be at I was out of breath, I quickly ran down the hall to the plane, the blonde flight attendant looked annoyed with me that I was late. I quickly apologized and she directed me to a empty seat.

She then preceded to start her flight attendant speech, about half way through her speech I discreetly popped my ear buds into my ears and turned on my music. Within an hour the flight attendant came back and started her landing speech, telling us about the weather in Las Vegas and that if anyone on the flight was headed to San Antonio that they needed to get off this plane when we land and switch to the flight that would go to San Antonio.

As soon as they instructed us that it was safe to unbuckle and gather our belongings I unbuckled, grabbed my purse and waited to be able to get off of the plane. After getting out of the plane I found my way to a screen that had the flight numbers and where they were headed to and at what time, finding my flight to San Antonio wasn’t until 1:35 PM and it’s only 12:20 PM right now I decided I had some time to get some food, use the bathroom and maybe explore the airport a bit.

After using the restroom I made my way to a starbucks and got a mocha frappuccino, after getting my drink I wandered around and found a place to get some lunch. By the time I was done eating it was 1:15 PM, I decided I should make my way to the gate I needed to be at, not wanting to be late again.

By the time I reached the correct gate they had just started boarding, I made my way on to the plane and sat down, I popped my ear buds in again, turned on my music. Full from all the food I ate I dozed off to sleep before the flight attendant had even started the standard flight speech.

6:00 PM

The sound of the flight attendants voice over the speakers woke me, the woman than told us what the weather is in San Antonio, and thanked us for flying with them, she than instructed us to stay seated until we came to a complete stop before unbuckling and gathering our belongings.

While waiting for the plane to clear out a bit I turned the airplane mode off on my phone and checked my texts, I than got my purse from under the seat in front of me and made my way out of the plane.

I looked at the signs hanging from the ceiling of the airport and found my way to the entrance, my heart started to race out of excitement to see my brother.

As I came down the escalator towards the entrance I immediately spotted Matt, he stood out of the crowd of people with his height of 6’5”. He started waving as soon as he saw me and made his way towards the end of the escalator, as soon as I reached the bottom he ran to me and hugged me.

“It’s so good to see you Tay. I am so glad you did make it out this time.” He said as he embraced me.

“I’ve missed you too Matt.” I said as we let go of each other, both of us a bit teary eyed, it had only been two months since we saw each other last but it still felt like forever. Matt was the best older brother and he was one of my best friends, it was hard to have him gone at basic training.

I noticed a very striking guy standing a few feet away from Matt and I, he was probably around 6’3”, tan, and he had the most amazing, breath taking deep brown eyes.

“Oh! I forgot to introduce you two, Taylor this is Tyler, Tyler this is Taylor.”  Matt told me.

Matt’s good friend was this handsome stud? Maybe going to the club wouldn’t be so bad after all.

“Nice to meet you” Tyler said smiling at me and shook my hand.

“Same goes for you Tyler” I said, smiling and staring into his amazing brown eyes.

“Tay, we should go get your bags, and then we can head over to your hotel, Tyler and I have already looked up directions to the hotel, it’s about 10 minutes away from here.”

We all made our way over to the baggage claim and waited for my two big suitcases to make their way around the conveyor belt, I could tell that Tyler was trying to cover his shock when he saw me grab my suitcases.

“I know, that’s a lot of suitcases for a week vacation, but what can I say, I’m a girl! I pack a lot!” I said to Tyler.

Matt laughed and agreed with me, Tyler just rolled his eyes.

Matt took my suitcases from me and all three of us walked to the parking garage. Tyler pulled out his keys and unlocked his silver Mercedes-Benz. We managed to cram my suitcases into the trunk of the car, then we were off to my hotel.

Once we arrived at the hotel Matt help me get my suitcases out of the trunk and then told me he would wait with Tyler in the car for me. I warned him that it may be a good half hour before I was back out since I had to change and get ready for dinner and the club. Matt complained and rolled his eyes before getting back into the car.

I walked in to the nice looking hotel and got checked in at the front counter, after I was handed my hotel key card I made my way to the elevator and went up to the third level where my room was.

After I reached my room I quickly pulled out the things I needed in order to get ready, things like my makeup, hair stuff, and clothes. Within a half hour I had made myself look decent again, I decided to wear a short black v-neck cocktail dress and a pair of tall red heels. Before leaving my room I quickly looked in the mirror and made sure that my curled red hair was still in place and quickly applied a beige colored lipstick to my lips.

I quickly made my way down to the parking garage where Matt and Tyler were, though it was hard to move very fast in my 6 inch heels. I found Tyler and Matt sitting in Tyler’s car, just talking and laughing, it felt weird to see Matt not glued to his iPhone, but since he left for Basic Training he hadn’t been allowed to have his phone or any electronics. Which meant he was only allowed to call me at the times his officer would let him, and I would just have to pray that he would remember the time difference before he called me.

I started to get in the car when Tyler told me that we were just going to walk because they decided we would go to the Rainforest café for dinner and then walk over to Club Space, a club that they raved was one of the best clubs in San Antonio.

“Okay you guys we can walk, but if my feet start killing me one of you will have to carry me.” I said jokingly.

“Fine, I’ll carry you if your feet start killing you.” Tyler said and winked at me.

 9:00 pm

Tyler picked me up and carried me the last block to the club, Matt warned him to be good to me otherwise he would punch him. I laughed, thinking Matt was just joking but when I looked at him he looked dead serious.

“Matt come on, relax! Tyler is your best friend! Do you really think he would be bad to me? Besides I’m old enough to take care of myself. Relax Matt.”

Matt forced a smile and relaxed a bit. By now we had reached the line to get into the club, Tyler gently put me back on the ground, I thanked him and we both smiled at each other. It took nearly a half hour for us to get in to the club, it was quite busy this time of night.

As we made our way into the club David Guetta’s song Titanium blasted over the speakers. After making our way to the bar and having a drink it was time to dance. However both Tyler and Matt seemed to be a bit out of it, I pulled Tyler behind me and we went into the crowd and started dancing, I looked for Matt and saw he was standng by the bar, looking a bit drunk.

Tyler started dancing behind me and we both started to grind against each other, I was too drunk to stop him and I didn’t’ want him to stop. He wrapped his arms around my waist, and brushed my hair off my neck, his face was inches from kissing my neck when out of the blue Matt’s fist impaled itself onto Tyler’s Jaw. I gasped, I looked at Matt, ready to yell at him when I saw that he looked different, his eyes were yellow and his veins seemed to be enlarged, he growled.

“Matt, don’t do this here, not now. I’m sorry, okay? Cool down.” Tyler whispered to Matt.

By now the music had stopped and people were staring, out of the corner of my eye I saw security making their way towards us. Matt shook his head and composed himself. When he opened his eyes again they were back to his normal dark brown color, and his veins seemed to go back to normal also.

By now security had reached us and told us that we needed to leave, they escorted us out the door.

“Matt what the hell happened back there?!” I shouted.

“Nothing you need to know or worry about Tay.”

“Why on earth did your eyes turn yellow and why did your veins enlarge? Tell me!”

“Taylor, Matt is only trying to protect you, it’s really best if you don’t know. I’m sorry.”

I glared at Tyler and we started walking back to my hotel. Matt still didn’t seem like his normal self and I could tell that Tyler seemed distracted by something also. What a great night it turned out to be.
