I, a Paper

Introduction

Hello! Please feel free to skip this part.

But if you're up for a little bit of introduction:

I just want to say growing up is not easy. For most of us. I know that there are those who do have it easy, but we all have our own struggles.

I guess, during those times, I took comfort in words. I read and read and read. Then, I wrote, wrote, and wrote. If not for that outlet, I wouldn't know where I would be right now.

While it is not often for me to write in rhymes, rhythm, meter, etc., I do like to challenge myself sometimes. However, self-expression is the main force behind my writing so I do free verses most of the time. But, I am in love with haikus! And I've written a couple in the 5-7-5 form even if that doesn't really apply to the English language.

I wish I have the courage to publish all of my poems, but I just find some of them too private to share. Maybe one day. Or maybe when I give up the ghost and someone reads through all my notebooks and decides I still have some things worth sharing.

But for now, this is it.

Sincerely,
R. J. Santos

I.

A heart not quite broken
A destination yet unreached
Words on a tongue
That's unable to speak
A dead larva in a pupa
Flowers in mid-blossom
An unfinished poem
Is what they are

II.

Anger in my soul
Poison in a bowl
Ever burning hot
My sanity rots
