A Getaway in the Land Down Under

I first met Nick when we were in the first grade. He was always an extremely energetic guy. While he was still a boy, his parents thought he suffers from ADD or hyperactivity disorder, but there was nothing wrong with him, not at all. He just felt he’s going to be on top of the world one day and he wouldn’t let anything stand in his way. I was always more of a guy who likes staying in the comfort zone, but it seems that opposites really do attract. Nick and I became best friends and ended up in the same college. We were in our senior year when I introduced my girlfriend’s sister Ashley to Nick.

It was instant chemistry between the two of them. They were very energetic, adventurous and open, they loved all the same things, had similar tastes and some would say they were absolutely perfect for one another. We graduated and soon, life took us in different directions. I moved to San Francisco and started working in video gaming industry, and Nick went to New York, where he later became one of the best financial analysts in the world. He married Ashley almost the same day we graduated and, although we did try to talk to each other as much as possible, we soon started losing track of one another. I was still single, going into occasional adventures, and I thought Nick probably had a child or two by now. One evening I caught myself remembering all the great times we had and I’ve decided to try and reconnect with my old mate. I went online and started looking for him.

Picking up the pieces

I knew that he was very famous in his field, so I thought I’ll manage to find him in no time. There was one problem with my plan, however, and that is the fact that I was never interested in financial business. As soon as I started researching, I realized that Nick went through hell during the last 6 months. His boss was caught in a federal crime, his company was closed down, and quite a lot of Nick’s assets were confiscated as they were gifts from his boss used for money laundering. To top it all – he caught Ashley sleeping with his assistant, and it became national news. They’ve settled for a quick divorce, which was about three months ago, and since then – no one has seen him or managed to contact him.

I’ll never forget the feeling when the doorbell rang. I was just realizing that a good friend of mine went through emotional disaster and I wasn’t there to try to help him, even though it was public knowledge. I felt desperate, and yet, even though I wasn’t expecting anyone, I felt warm and nostalgic when I’ve heard the bell. Like I somehow knew who was on the other side. I’ve opened it, and there he was, my childhood friend, now almost 30 years later, I still saw the fire in his eyes.

I remember saying something within the lines of: “Wow, you haven’t changed a bit! Come in, please.”

“Haven’t changed? Dude, are you insane? I’m losing hair, I haven’t been in a gym for over a year and I’m basically homeless. And yeah, until a second ago, I really didn’t know if I have a single friend left, so, I think I have changed, mate. But you seem the same, except the hair, you’re way more bold than I am.”

He got in and I took his suitcases. It looked like he had packed for quite a long trip.

“Hey, do you want to stay for a couple of days, or weeks, I’ve read about what happened…”

“Amazing, so you’ve read about it, and haven’t called? Not even an email or a text message?”

Nick always had the amazing ability to stop me right in my tracks. When I was younger and he lashes out, I would begin to stutter. I knew he was just fooling around, I knew it even when we were kids, but he had this specific charisma which always got the best of me.

“I… I’ve JUST read about it… I didn’t know… And about Ashley… I’m… I’m…”

“Still stuttering when nervous I see, I guess some things never change. I’m just kidding, bro, chill out. It’s actually a great thing you’ve read all about it before I’ve arrived; now I don’t have to go through it again.”

I grabbed two beers from my fridge and we both sat down in my living room. He was looking around, checking things out, and before he managed to say anything else, I said:

“Look, Nick, I’m here for you. Whatever you need and whenever you need it – it’s done. If you’d like to stay, please stay as long as you want.”

He looked at me, and I saw that little spark in his eyes getting bigger.

“Well, you should say that, knowing that you’ve introduced me to Ashley in the first place.”

“I… It was… I couldn’t have known…”

“GOD, you’re edgy today – I’M JOKING! Look, bro, I really appreciate everything you’re saying, but I only have two questions for you. Do you have a girlfriend and can you get out of work for the next week or two?”

I kept looking into his eyes and that spark became a glare. I didn’t see any remorse, pity or anything bad on his face like he wasn’t going through a personal hell.

“I don’t have a girlfriend right now, and to be perfectly honest, I was planning on taking my days off in a day or two, why, what did you have in mind?”

“I’ll be perfectly blunt with you – I hadn’t had good sex in more than a year. I was so focused on my career that everything started falling apart around me. A few days ago I was drowning my sorrow with booze when I’ve remembered our first trip to the brothel. Do you remember?”

I instantly felt extremely hot, my ears were burning and I think I’ve seen a few drops of sweat fall down on the coffee table.

“So you want us to go to the brothel together like we did when we were 16?”

His eyes were glowing, almost illuminating my flat.

“No, bro, I don’t want us to go to a brothel, I want us to go on a sex tour like we fantasized when we were in college before I went berserk and decided to be a grown up in my twenties. I want us to go around the world and visit the best sex cities in the world. I want us to experience South American women; I want us to check out Amsterdam and Austria, but before anything else, I want us to visit Liaisons at Sydney.”

I stood there, looking at him with so many thoughts running through my head and all I could hear myself say was:

“That’s amazing, when do we leave?”

Nick stood up, came to me and hugged me so strong that I couldn’t breathe in. I saw a tear falling down his smiling cheek and he kissed me right on the forehead before he let me go.

“I knew I could count on you, dude, come, sit down, there’s a lot to go through, a lot of planning, luckily – I come prepared.”

He opened up his laptop and there it was – the map of Australia with specifically marked and specified locations. I only managed to see some tags like petite, busty, absolutely gorgeous.

“I’ve been waiting for this for far too long mate”, said Nick, while I was trying to calm the drums echoing in my head.

“We’re actually going on a sex tour…” I thought to myself, but as Nick opened the catalog with all the beautiful women, I instantly know I was going on an adventure of a lifetime.
