9 Facts about French Bulldogs

Bulldogs are a breed of dogs that have a wrinkled-like face. This breed is also known for having a pushed-in nose. These are the features that separates a bulldog from other dog breeds. This is the most popular dog breed in America. People love keeping this dog breed for various reasons, but especially since they make great companions and know how to relate with the families that they grow in. Some of the fact about French bulldogs are as follows.

Offer Great Companion

This breed of bulldog is known to be compassionate and they act as great companions to their families. In addition to that, French bulldog also bond well with other dogs, making them very friendly and easy to bond with. However, they are not fond of barking, making them very quiet and peaceful. However, unlike other dog breeds that need much exercise, French bulldogs do not need that much exercise. You can just walk them around for a few minutes, but they can also go without the exercise. They are also comfortable in their own space, and enjoy their small space.

Are Not Fond Of Water Splashes

Most dogs love having fun such as swimming and making splashes in water. However, this is different with French bulldogs. They cannot swim because they cannot find balance because of their bulbous head and small body. If you plan to keep this breed, or already have one at home, and you own a pool, then you should consider keeping an eye on them so that they do not throw themselves in the pool. However, this does not mean that you should not take your pup on a summer vacation. You can go have fun in different activities, but be on the watch out in case they head for the sea.

They Cannot Fly

Unlike other dog breeds that can fly, Frenchies cannot fly because they have a shorter snout. Also, since their face is wrinkled-like, and they have a pushed-in nose, breathing may become difficult for them when they try flying. This facial structure also makes them uncomfortable in warm temperatures, and this is why they need constant cleaning, to help in preventing bad odor and infections from accumulating on their face.

They Do Not Thrive In Negative Environments

French bulldogs are very sensitive, especially when it comes to criticism. When they notice that you are scolding them, they will start acting fussy and will move restlessly around the house. However, if you remain positive with them, give them the love that they need, encourage them and motivate them frequently, they will remain positive and show compassion towards you.

They Do Not Come From France

Most people assume that since this breed is known as “French” bulldog, they have come from France. However, this is an English breed, with its origin in England. When this breed was developed, the lace makers used their smaller version as lap warmers while working. When these lace makers moved to France because of loss of jobs in England, as a result of industrial revolution, they moved with their dogs too. This made the French bulldogs to be known more in France than how it was known in England. This is why most people think that French bulldogs came from France.

They Have Two Main Shapes Of The Ear

These dogs have two different shapes of the ear. French bulldogs, originally had rose-shaped ears which is similar to the English bulldog. This shape of the ear was preferred mostly by the English breeders. However, American breeders liked the bat-like shaped ear of the French bulldogs. This led to the American breeders settling on the bat-like ear and considering it the standard ear and a distinctive feature in frenchies. This led to the rose-ear French bulldogs being disqualified because this type of ear is considered as not the standard.

A Strict Weight

Unlike other dogs that can gain weight without any difficulties, the French bulldog has a limited weight that it cannot weigh more than 28 pounds. Some dogs who weigh more than the required weight are automatically disqualified in dog shows. However, if you own a French dog and you do not plan to take it on any show, you can use this information as a standard weight for your dog. Also, since French bulldogs are short in size, being overweight may bring many complications to them, and that is why it is important to maintain a standard weight. As the pet parent, ensure that the French bulldog eats healthy since they love eating, because unhealthy eating can easily make them obese.

They Make The Perfect Fashionistas

French bulldogs have become popular in the fashion industry world. They have been used to showcase different pup attires, and since they look chubby and amazing, they always bring the best in what they do. French bulldogs have also appeared in different social media platforms such as Instagram, supporting different clothing brands. Consequently, most celebrities have also been seen playing or posing for pictures with their French bulldogs.

They Bond Well With Babies, Making Them Great Baby Sitters

French bulldogs offer great companion to kids, and love playing with kids, making them the best baby sitters. While they are babysitting, they are forming a strong bond, which makes them good friends with kids. This breed also knows how to be patient and delicate with babies, and acts as the protector of infants. When an intruder wants to get close to the baby, frenchies will act and might get aggressive. In addition to that, they make great babysitters because they learn faster when trained and are very intelligent. They are also faithful and loyal to their owners, making them compassionate.

In summary, most people think that French bulldogs originally came from France. However, this dog breed has its roots in England where it was first bred, before industrial revolution forced lace makers to move back to French with their dogs. This breed also offers great companion and are great with kids and their family. Therefore, French bulldogs are amazing, loving, compassionate and loyal dog breed that anyone should have.
