Types of assignments you will receive at the university

There is a reason university is classified as "higher education". It significantly ups the ante compared to high school. Many students are not prepared for the types of assignments they'll be receiving at the university level. Even if they've performed something similar in high school, the scope of the university changes the game completely. So let's have a look at the types of assignments you'll be receiving in university.

Essays

Essays are among the most common assignments in education, whether we're talking about high school or university. However, the university-level essays are different from what a typical high schooler faces.

While the essence of the essays is the same - a piece of writing over a certain topic, the scope is very different. The structure of an essay in university is far more important than it used to be in high school.

Aside from proper structure (introduction, thesis, body, conclusion), the length is usually a lot higher. This can make essays quite challenging, especially when the topic doesn't require much writing, as some topics don't.

Since essays usually revolve around the writer's ideas, they can be challenging assignments, prompting some students to look for "someone to do my assignment". This is one way for students to make sure they pass as they sometimes get swamped with other assignments.

Reviews

Reviews require you to analyze previously published literary work. While there are no hard and fast rules on how to go about it, there are certain criteria for what constitutes a Quality Literature Review.

While the thesis and interpretation can be your own (after all, you're the one doing the review), you need to defend the thesis in the body. This is definitely something to look out for when writing a review.

Reports

Reports involve research, investigation, and analysis. Unlike essays, they're not concerned about your opinion. Rather, they focus on certain findings you come across while doing your research.

Reports should include proper citations and bibliography. Failing to disclose a citation may be considered plagiarism, which runs rampant in a university setting.

There are two main types of reports you may come across during your education, depending on your specialty - business and science reports.

Business reports contain information that is supposed to prompt a certain action or a decision from the reader. They're important for business schools because their graduates need to know how to write business reports for their jobs after college.

Science reports, on the other hand, have the objective of informing. They're summaries of findings that have been done through experimentation or research.

Case Studies

Case studies are narrow, longitudinal investigations of a certain issue. They're very in-depth and follow the development of the issue overtime.

They're a deep level of analysis regarding an issue and can be used to link theory and practice, analyzing information, testing conclusions, and more.

Case studies are not easy to set up and do, but oftentimes they're quite reliable. A solid case study is an excellent way to test a hypothesis or to check out if a conclusion holds water.

Most students are intimidated by case studies because they've never encountered them before university. But the truth is, there's nothing scary about case studies. They can actually be quite fun when done right.

Conclusion

Those are the most common types of assignments you will receive in university. Some of them may seem familiar, albeit with a different scope and volume. While others, you might be encountering for the first time. At any rate, you shouldn't allow any of them to intimidate you - you're there to learn and these assignments will help you do just that.
