Possibly Love?

Prologue

"Here  I brought your tea" I hand over the cup of very strong tea over to my sick  grandmother, whose sitting on the sofa watching some cooking show on the TV.

"Thank you darling." Her eyes are glued to the TV screen as she takes the tea and takes a sip, then places it down on the coffee table. I jump into the other sofa.

"Are you sure you're fine with me going? I could always stay until next year if you feel like you're too sick?" I toss my phone to the end of the sofa, almost hitting my toes.

"I'll be fine, the nurses are coming in a few days." She finally looks at me, giving me a warm smile. "You shouldn't need to worry." She tells me. "Will you be okay? You haven't even visited this school that you're moving to."

"The school looks really good, I'm sure I'll be fine." I smile at her. "I get to stay in a dorm, which looks like a house." I chuckle.

"You'll be so far away, you don't know anyone that goes there." She pauses. "Are you sure, Ali?" She asks with a hint of doubt in her voice, her face drowned in worry.

"I'll try to visit every weekend Gran, you don't need to worry." I smile reassuringly.

"Okay hun, you should probably get to bed. You leave at 5am." Gran smiles, I get up and go over to her and kiss her cheek.

"Good night" I pick up my phone and walk upstairs to my room, before jumping into my double bed - which I will miss like hell.

I stare at the ceiling. I'm confused, do I really need to leave this school, this town, even my grandma? She's the only family I have after grandpa and my parents died. My parents were in a car crash 3 years ago - that's something to share for another time.

However, staying here would eventually kill me too. I have to leave, otherwise this school, these people, will break me into tiny pieces. At the moment, I'm trying my best to hold myself together.

After overthinking for awhile, I put a stop to my thoughts and after tossing and turning for what felt like an eternity, I finally drift off to sleep.

"Okay, I think I'm ready to leave Gran." I'm excited, I can't wait to get there and meet so many new people - more importantly, to get back to my dorm and have pyjama parties..

"Have you had breakfast?" My grandmother asks, she walks over to me.

"I'm having some on the way there, don't worry." I smile at her. She brings a hand up to my face and strokes my cheek.  She smiles up at me.

"You're so strong Alice, I'm so proud of you" She tells me, her eyes turning glossy, looking as if she's about to cry.

"I'll be back next week, on the weekend I promise." I take my grandmother's hand from my cheek and I hold it with both my hands. "I'll be missing you Gran" I smile before letting go of her hand and picking up my bag, putting it over my shoulder, then using one of my free hands to pick up my black suitcase.

My grandma then walks up to me, kisses my cheek and hugs me. "I'll see you soon dear"

I smile at her. "Yeah, see you soon" I turn around and walk to the door. After a few deep breaths, I open the door to see the taxi waiting for me.

This was it. I'm transferring to a better school, this was going to be different, but better.

I'm four hours away from my grandma and I'm going to be alone for the first time in awhile, this will shape me as a person, and I can't wait to feel happy again.

The taxi driver steps out of the car and takes my suitcase from me and puts it in the back while I settle in the car. I sigh in relief, I look at my doorway to see my gran standing there, her hands clasped together in awe, she's smiling at me.

I haven't left my gran before, and the worst thing imaginable for me is to say good-bye. So I avoid it, because I hope it will never come to a good-bye, even if it's only for now.

I smile at her, showing her my pearly whites, and I lift a hand to wave.

"Episcopal High School is it, Miss?" the taxi driver asks me.

"Yes sir" I nod, then wave to my gran one last time before my four hour journey in this taxi begins. I can't wait to get there.

My name is Alice. Alice Sweeting. I'm just your ordinary high school student, until I transferred to Episcopal High School - there I had promised myself to make a name of myself, to have people notice me for the good and not the bad. Basically I'm planning on the opposite reputation I had at my previous school. I want to do good, with good people around me.

After a very long journey, we finally get there. I just about manage to drag my stiff legs from the taxi and I'm greeted by a fresh breeze, and big silver gates. The school is huge, not the prettiest thing I've seen but it is way better than my last school.

This is where I'll be going from now on. I feel so nervous for so many reasons. I look down at what I'm wearing and I straighten the skirt, making myself believe I look decent. I fix my bag over my shoulder.

My suitcase is being taken to my new dorm so that's one burden out of the way, now let's get the first day out of the way.

New school, new start, now I have a clean slate; the thing I've wanted most for awhile. Thankfully I got transferred to this school where I'm able to stay at a dorm house - which makes everything easier for me and now at least Gran won't need to take care of me anymore.

"You can do this Alice." I whisper to myself, as if I'm giving myself a small pep talk. I take a few deep breaths and after a few moments, my legs drag me across the school yard.

"Hey... is that her?" I hear a boy whisper as I walk past a big group of boys.

"Oh? That's the girl that they've been talking about." Another boy whispers.

That who's been talking about? The boys whispering makes me feel uncomfortable, it feels like countless eyes are digging into the back of my skull. I feel so self conscious.

"Hey, are you the new girl?" a tall-ish boy stands in my way, making me stop in my tracks.

"Yes, that's right." I manage to get the words out. After I say this, I'm suddenly surrounded by a group of boys.

"I knew it! What class are you in?" I hear a boy shout.

"S-sorry, I don't know yet." I fix my bag over my shoulder again. Gosh, this feels like some kind of interrogation.

"I hope it's my class." a boy shares.

"I bet it's mine." Another adds.

I mean I get it, they want me in their class but I can't help to feel weirded out and uncomfortable in this kind of situation. I feel like they'll be arguing over who's class I'll get to be in. Shouldn't something like this make me feel happy?

"Yo! She totally smells like shampoo!" a random boy shouts aloud.

This is freaking me out. What kind of reaction is this? Just what am I getting myself into..

"Move." I hear a blunt, deep voice behind me and the group of boys, as soon as they hear this voice, most of them scatter to the sides - as if they were scared.

"Yeah that's right get out of the way!" Another voice shouts.

"You idiots are being annoying!" The same voice shouts and the boys scramble through the school entrance.

Two boys, one who which is quite tall, has brown hair and looks very scary,. The other has blonde hair with red streaks in it, ear piercings, looks as if he's around 5'7ft, make their way through the yard.

"Ugh it's Ryan and Sam." one boy from a distance groans.

"Let's get out of here." Another adds and the remaining boys walk swiftly through the school entrance.

"Uh excuse m-" I try to greet the boys but I'm immediately cut off.

"Who's this chick?" The one with the brown hair asks. "Yo Sam, why is there a chick here?" he turns to the guy, Sam.

"Why ask me? She's probably the new girl" he answers him, then looks me up and down and smiles. His smile is literally perfect, sure his piercings make him look scary but his smile makes up for it.

"New girl?" the guy I'm claiming to be Ryan, looks very confused. Should I introduce myself?

Before I get the chance to say anything, Ryan walks off without even looking at me.

Then I'm greeted by Sam. I think that's his name anyway.

"Hey, you're the new girl I heard about, right?" Sam smiles brightly at me.

"I guess so" I swallow my nerves and try to smile back at him.

"What's your name?" He asks.

"Alice Sweeting." I reply.

"Alice? Got it! I'll be sure to remember that!" He smiles. "I'm Samuel Edwards, but just call me Sam" he adds.

He's so forward. Dang..

"Hey, you still bothering her?" A man with brown hair with a hint of grey, walks up to us. He's really tall and looks scary. I assume he's a teacher?

"Huh? No! I'm not bothering her, you've got it all backwards. Right Alice?" Sam looks me in the eyes. As if he's trying to telepathically tell me to agree.

"Uh yeah.." I nod.

"Okay then, time for you to get to homeroom Sam, as I will go get Alice settled in" The teacher taps Sam on the shoulder, directing him inside.

"See you around, Alice" Sam waves as he walks into the school.

"So anyway, you're the new student, Alice Sweeting, correct?" He looks at me, he doesn't even smile. "I'm Mr Morris. Nice to meet you." he adds.

"Nice to meet you too!" I lie, this guy is so intimidating.

"Well let's start by heading over to the faculty room" He finally smiles as he turns around and leads me to the faculty room.

After having finished all the paperwork - that was pointless - in the faculty room, I'm now being shown to my classroom.

"You'll be in second year, class 5" He tells me. "I know it's a lot to take in, but do your best."

I nod in reply.

"So the classes are 3 dorms put into 1, leaving us with 18-20 pupils per class. The only issue I feel you should have is that there is only one other girl in that class. She also stays at your dorm though so I hope no problems will arise." He nods at me.

"Why only one girl?" I'm confused and shocked. I thought my dorm would be all girls!

"How do you mean? You understand that you're one of the 6 girls that enrol here, correct?" He tells me.

"I thought there would be more girls." Honestly, I'm disappointed. I had hoped for pyjama parties and midnight snacking with the girls.. Dreams crushed.

"Listen. This was an all boy school but it started accepting girls a few months ago." He explains to me why only a small amount of girls enrol here.

"My apologises sir, I hadn't realised. Sorry for not making sure what school I will be attending" As I'm trying my best to formally apologise to Mr Morris, some commotion among some boys starts. I wonder what happened.

I look over to see that everyone is looking over at the teacher and I from the classroom. What the hell?

"Good grief, they're at it again.." Mr Morris sighs. These boys must be trouble makers or something.

"Are they always like this?" I ask, I'm a bit concerned to be honest.

"No well -" Someone cuts over Mr Morris.

"Watch out!" a boy shouts.

Instinctively I turn my head towards the voice, and then I'm greeted by a ball, which I catch with my face..

"Ow! What the hell?" I scream, damn that hurt so much.

"Sweeting?!" Mr Morris calls my name. "Hey Sweeting!"

Before I'm able to say 'I'm fine' my consciousness seems to slip away.

Hours must have passed since then.

I wake up in a very comfortable bed, to ruin that, as I sit up a sharp pain runs through my head. I slowly lift myself up from the bed I somehow managed to get in, I figure that this must be the nurses office and I sigh.

"You must be the new girl!" I hear a deep-ish voice from behind me and I'm startled. I stand up and turn around to see a tall boy with brown hair and emerald green eyes - his skin looks really smooth as well - standing there.

"Um, who are you?" I ask.

Faster than I could ask the question, the strange boy closes the curtain around the bed.

"I'm Alex Harding" He smiles weirdly at me. I'm so creeped out. "What's your name?"

"Alice." I bluntly reply.

"Alice, I see."  He nods, looking me up and down. I don't know why, even though this guy is all smiles, he seems very suspicious to me - as if there is a strange air of danger around him. Despite attempting to back away from him, he inches closer very creepily.

"I'm so happy to finally meet the girl everyone's been talking about." He claims.

"Who's been talking about me?" I ask, curiously.

"Practically all the boys, even Zoey Hughes." He leans in when he says this girls name.

"Who's Zoey Hughes?" I make a face at him, as to show confusion.

"Hush, you're full of questions aren't you?" he brings a finger to my lips and chuckles. "Hey since we're in here.." He inches closer, and I inch further away when he does this. "Don't you want to have some fun?"

"I think I'll pass." I laugh and move his finger away from my lips.

"Don't play hard to get." He chuckles, then he inches closer.

"No! You can't!" I protest and at that moment, I hear a very angry voice shout.

"Quiet!" the mystery boy shouts. Alex draws the curtains.

"You're giving me a headache." the boy who's laying down on the bed next to us says. "If you want to fool around, go somewhere else" he says this quietly but sharply.

"What? No way. I'm gonna need a bed for this you know." Alex chuckles. "If you don't like it, then why don't you get lost, Lukas?"

The boy, Lukas, doesn't reply. After a brief moment, he stands up and goes for the door.

"Wait! Don't leave us alone!" I shout out after him.

"Don't say that." Alex frowns, but then smiles. Oh boy am I creeped out. "Well he's gone now, so where were we.."

"Knock it off!" a familiar voice enters the room and I'm so relieved it is Mr Morris.

"I didn't realise you were here, Elliott." Alex addresses the teacher by his first name and I'm quite shocked. How disrespectful of him.

"Yeah. Too bad, huh?" Mr Morris snaps back, glaring at him, yet all that shows on Alex's face is a big, fat smile.

"Go back to your dorm. School's already over." He tells Alex.

"Fine." He says through his teeth, then looks at me. "See you around, Alice!" He smiles, then waves before walking out of the room. Oh gosh, I hope I don't see him again, I will do everything I can to make sure that was the last time I saw that pervert.

"Jeez.. There's nothing you can do with that kid.." Mr Morris sighs in frustration. "Anyway, how are you? Are you in any pain?" He peers into my face.

"I feel fine now." I nod and give him my best smile, hoping I can finally go back to the dorm.

"Well classes are over so, what will you do now?" He asks.

"What?" Just how long was I out for? I glance at the clock to see that it's half past four.

"I could take you to your classroom?" He offers.

"Could you?" I get excited. I'm finally going to see my classroom.

He takes me to class 5. It looks better than my previous school's classroom thank god. "Here we are!"

Light from the sun streams into the empty classroom through the windows. "I'll take you to your dorm, wait here for a moment." Mr Morris smiles, then leaves the classroom.

Second Year Class Five.

After looking at the class sign, I walk over to the side with the window, a wind blows in through, it feels good flowing through my dark brown hair. I should probably close it before leaving.

I close the window making a loud thud.

"You again?" I turn around to see a tall boy with dark hair and big brown eyes. It's Lukas.

"Oh!" I'm taken aback. How did I not notice him?

"Look at you, strutting around the whole school." He groans.

"Strutting?" I'm confused, I sigh. "It's only my first day here." I cross my arms.

He glances at me as he picks up his bag and puts it over his shoulder.

"About earlier, don't misunderstand it. He was trying to sexually assault me." I say clearly.

"You're a blabber mouth" He replies as he sighs, as if I'm some burden. How rude. "Sorry, I don't have any interest talking with you." What a prick! He has no respect at all!

As I'm riling up and ready for a big comeback, Mr Morris walks back in with a bag. "You're still here, Hart? He looks puzzled when he spots Lukas.

"Sup" Lukas replies, as if he isn't bothered.

"Go home, Hart" Mr Morris simply tells him. Then he turns to me, "Sorry for making you wait." He smiles then adds "I'll introduce you to the class tomorrow. Let's get you to the dorm for now."

"Got it" I nod.

So tomorrow will now officially be my first day here. I have to make some friends here if I'm ever going to enjoy it here.

We leave the school and walk for about 15 minutes.

"This is your dorm." Mr Morris and I stop in front of  a big house. It's very.. beautiful, considering this is a dorm house.

"Hiiiii!" A very feminine - some could even say gay - man voice is heard from behind me and I turn around.

What a beauty, so slender but that voice...

"So this is the new girl?" The strange - possibly gay - man asks.

"Uh-huh. Her name is Alice Sweeting." He smiles at me, then looks at the man.

"Oh, Alice!" He says in surprise. "I'm the Resident Director, Jesse Cahill. Nice to meet you!" He smiles. Jesse seems to have a very feminine aura around him, he seems... gay. Should I ask? No, I couldn't ask something like that!

"N-nice to meet you too!" To be fair, this guy startled me but he seems like good company so I'm glad he's taking care of me.

"He may look like a man, but he has a heart of a woman." Mr Morris chuckles when he says this. Then proceeds "If there is anything you need, be sure to let him know."

After Mr Morris tells me this, I gaze at Jesse's profile, his hair is seeming a greyish white colour that he has put in a low ponytail. His skin looks very soft, a little like that Alex kid. I think he's even wearing a hint of mascara? If he didn't have a slight beard and bushy eyebrows, he could easily be mistaken as a girl.. especially with that voice.

"Hehe! That's right!" Jesse does some weird thing with his right hand and laughs like a girl. I can't help but smile. He looks so funny.

"Well I'm leaving her in your hands now, Jesse." Mr Morris smiles at us both then walks off.

"Okie dokie! Well let's show you around Alice!" Jesse smiles and takes my hand, leading me into the big house.

"I'll give you a copy of the rulebook for the dorm later on sweetie." He tells me. There's a rulebook? Oh my. "First let me show you the common area." He smiles and does that thing with his hand again, how do you even do that, he like bends it so weirdly.. Anyway.

We're about to walk into another room when a tall boy blocks our path and he's... half naked! A boy with brown hair and blue, slightly green eyes is in mine and Jesse's way. His face is expressionless.. He seems... dead or something..

"What the -!" I cover my eyes in shock.

"What's with the girl?" The boy asks Jesse like nothing is the matter.

"Kian! What are you doing walking around like that!" Jesse raises his voice.

"I thought it would be fine as long as my bottom half is covered.. plus Emma has already said she didn't mind." He claims.

So Emma must be the other girl I'm assuming..  Emma is a pretty name.

"Oh no honey, some, probably most girls can be really sensitive about this stuff." Jesse looks away. "Plus you have to be careful when it's wrapped so -" before Jesse can finish his sentence, the guy's towel drops to the floor.

"Oh." the guy's eyes widen and I scream.

"Kian!" I hear Jesse shout.

"I didn't see anything! I almost did but I didn't!"  I stumble over words. That was really close.

"Sorry. It's fixed now." Kian says.

"Are you sure?" I bite my lip, still covering my eyes.

"Yeah." he assures me.

Timidly, I open my eyes. He's still standing there, looking at me. He's still half naked though.

"My bad, I didn't mean to show off like that." He apologises.

"It's okay.. I didn't see anything" I smile awkwardly.

"That's good then." He chuckles. He has a nice laugh.. I guess.

"Anyway, Alice, this is Kian Chapman." Jesse introduces us. "You're both in the same year."

The same year? This guy could've easily passed as a teacher!

"Kian, this is Alice Sweeting. She'll be living here from now on." Jesse smiles very brightly. "Tell everyone to come to the lounge so I can introduce!" He asks. "Actually, tell them to come to the dining room."

"Got it." Kian puts his thumbs up and walks away.

"Alice. Should we head up to your room?" Jesse offers. "After that, we'll head to the dining room."

"Sure." I smile at Jesse.

After Jesse helped me carry a few things up to my room we make our way to the dining room.

"Now to introduce you to everyone" Jesse clasps his hands together. Oh boy I'm so nervous! "No need to be nervous honey, I'm sure everyone will love you." Jesse says this as he drags me into the dining room, in front of everyone.

There's six people sitting around the table, and I'm afraid, I recognize them all apart from the girl sitting there.

"H-hey" I swallow hard.

"Oh it's Alice!" I see Sam looking at me, with the same bright smile on his face.

Ryan, if I'm correct, is looking at me like I'm some kind of ghost that has just appeared.

"Oh yeah! Alice is coming to live with us!" Sam throw's a fist in the air. I'm glad he's excited. I smile.

"Haha, how wonderful!" I turn my head in the direction of the voice. It's Alex! That bloody pervert! "Now that you're living here, I can hold you any time you want." He smiles, acting all innocent.

"Give her a break Al. You're a pervert." The girl, that's seemingly glued to her phone screen clicks her tongue at Alex's comment. She hasn't looked up once.

"Well Alice, why don't you introduce yourself." Jesse suggests. I'd really rather not..

"O-Okay..." I clear my throat. "I'm Alice Sweeting, I just moved here from New York, I'll be living here from now on.. Nice to meet all of you." I smile.

"Lovely Alice, anyway, this is Ryan Lewis, she turns me to face Ryan, the one I saw with that Sam guy this morning. I hadn't realised how soft and.. bouncy his hair looks...I could touch it.

"Yeah.. I saw you this morning, right?" Ryan leans over the table.

"That's right, you walked away faster than I could say anything though." I chuckle and smile awkwardly.

"Oh, sorry.." Ryan turns his head, if I'm not certain, his cheeks look blushed. Was it something I said?

"Alice, this is-" as soon as Jesse makes eye contact with Sam, the guy who is sitting next to Ryan, he speaks over Jesse.

"Hey Alice, remember me?" Sam states, his face brightens up and his gorgeous smile is brighter than it was this morning.

"Sam Edwards, right?" I chuckle, he's treating this as if it is some reunion. It makes me happy.

"You remembered!" His smile somehow grows bigger.

"Anyway, this is Lukas Hart." Jesse turns me towards someone that, I think, is asleep on the table.

"Already met her." He says bluntly, not budging.

"Okay then.. Well this is Alex Harding." Jesse smiles.

"I know exactly who he is!" I say, slightly angrily.

"They were fooling around in the nurse's office." Lukas states aloud, yawning after saying this.

"What?!" Jesse basically screams.

"No! Jesse it wasn't like that! He was sexually assaulting me!" I become defensive and I wave my hands everywhere.

"Alex! I have warned you about this, you little -" Jesse is on verge of screaming at Alex when..

"Calm down Jesse, I was simply looking after her." Alex says calmly, slumping back into his chair, smiling at me.

"I will talk to you later young man!" Jesse demands, making Alex groan in complaint. "Anyway, Alice.. You've met Kian.." Jesse turns his head to the side and sighs.

"Yo." Kian says, expressionless and seemingly dead once again. I nod and smile at him. Then my eyes are brought upon the person I have yet to meet. Emma, I'm assuming.

Jesse clears his throat. "Alice this is Emma, the only girl in the dorm and your class, I'm sure you'll get along great!" Jesse does that thing with his hands.

"Hey." I smile, bouncing up on my toes. I can't deny I'm excited, I'm about to meet the first girl at this school.

"So, Alice, right? Why'd you move?" the girl that's glued to her phone screen finally looks up.

"It's personal." I smile nervously.

"So you just ditched your family is it?" She makes a weird face, as if she's judging me. What a bitch to say that.

"Wow Emma, that's enough. All you know about Alice is her name." Jesse snaps at Emma.

"I don't care." Emma stands up from her seat. "I'm going to have a meal with my 'friends'" When she says this, she glares at me and says the word 'friends' in a nasty manner. As if she reminding me that she had friends, and I didn't. Emma walks out of the room, her eyes still glued to her phone screen and we hear the front door slams behind her.

"Okay then" I bite my lip, maybe she was right, I did leave my gran but, I'm going back soon to visit anyway.

"Oh sweetie, ignore her! She's so stubborn and.. anti-social." Jesse looks at me in concern.

"I'm fine, oh well."  I sigh but give my best smile.

"Ignore her, she's always been a brat." Ryan says angrily.

"Hey watch your mouth young man! We're all family here!" Jesse narrows his eyebrows, making an angry face.

"It's true! All of the girls are so mean to us!" Sam hollers, his eyes wide as if he's dramatically agreeing with Ryan.

"They're annoying." I turn my head to Lukas, the one who called me a blabber mouth, who seems to either be resting or sleep talking.

"Well I'm sure I can get along with them when I get to know them." I smile, feeling slightly awkward.

"I wouldn't suggest that." Kian says emotionless. As if he was reading it from a piece of paper.

"I'm afraid he's right Alice, it would be a shame for you to turn into one of those girls and join their precious 'clique'" Alex chuckles.

"Right.." I nod.

"Okay well I will go prepare supper." Jesse smiles at everyone, destroying the awkward silence.

"I'll come help you, Jesse." I offer, going on my the front of my feet showing how eager I am to help - and to also escape this room of boys. If Jesse leaves, what if that pervert Alex does something?

"Thank you Alice!" Jesse guides me out of the dining room and I help him prepare supper - and I'm happy to say that his cooking is fantastic.

After an eventful, first day-ish, I'm able to put my mind at rest and mentally, emotionally and physically prepare myself for my official first day at school tomorrow.

I don't see him again, I will do everything I can to make sure that was the last time I saw that pervert.

"Jeez.. There's nothing you can do with that kid.." Mr Morris sighs in frustration. "Anyway, how are you? Are you in any pain?" He peers into my face.

"I feel fine now." I nod and give him my best smile, hoping I can finally go back to the dorm.

Chapter 1 - He's Bad News

I'm awoken by the horrid sound of beeping, and I turn over in my bed and hit the button on my alarm clock. I sit up, my eyes still readjusting and I realise that this is my new room. I had just spent my very first night away from Grandma, and home. I have to admit, my bed back home was way more comfortable than this one.

I drag myself out of bed and almost struggle to get my clothes on. My uniform is a pencil skirt, a baggy polo shirt that I tucked into my skirt and my blue tie. Then, after brushing my hair and putting it up in a high ponytail, I look in the mirror to make sure I look decent then I head downstairs to the bathroom. I reach the bathroom and just to make sure, I knock on the door lightly.

"Hey, anyone in there?" I ask, leaning close to the door to hear better. Suddenly, the door is opened rather aggressively. It's Emma, how lovely.

She glances at me and groans. "You again." She scoffs and bumps my shoulder as she walks past me. I'm left standing there in shock, my mouth wide open and I find myself scoffing as well before walking into the bathroom and closing the door behind me.

What. A. Bitch.

The only words that I could even think of when she popped into my head. She was mean, and I didn't understand why. Questions are repeated in my head of why this girl could be such a bitch to me, as I apply a little mascara, do my eyebrows and some concealer then I leave the bathroom and walk straight to the kitchen.

"Good morning." I walk into the kitchen and I greet Jesse.

"Morning Alice!" Jesse smiles at me as he's preparing breakfast.

I smile and join Sam, Alex and Emma at the table. Emma, the bitch, glued to her phone screen texting as per usual.

"Good morning Alice!" Sam greets me and I sit in the free seat next to him.

"How'd you sleep Alice?" Alex grins at me.

"Fine." I look at him awkwardly, and then turn back to Sam and smile.

"Jesse I'm off to get breakfast elsewhere." Emma says and looks up at Jesse, then glances over at me. "I suddenly lost my appetite." She gets up, and for once I see her with her phone off in her hand, instead of the blue light reflecting off her screen to on her face.

Alex scoffs. "Bye then." He smirks. All Emma does is glare at Alex before leaving the room.

"She scares me to be honest." Sam states.

"I don't know why she doesn't like me." I bite my lip.

"It isn't much of a loss, Alice." Alex reassures me while kicking his feet up on the table.

"Young man, no feet on the table!" Jesse raises his voice, not even turning around from preparing breakfast.

"Whatever Jesse." Alex says through his teeth, putting his feet down.

"Um..  Why wouldn't it be a loss?" I put my hands together on the table, leaning in, showing interest. I wonder if all the girls have the same attitude as Emma.

"Because they're all selfish." Alex tells me.

"And bitchy!" Sam adds.

"Watch that mouth, Sam!" Jesse shouts, putting his hand on his hip and glares at Sam. Then Jesse looks at me and his face softens.

"Alice, you shouldn't worry over Emma, she'll come around." Jesse reassures me and flashes me a big smile before turning back to preparing breakfast.

"O-Okay Jesse, thank you!" I return the smile and go back to speaking to Sam and Alex.

After breakfast - which I have to admit was satisfactory - I walk to school with Sam and Kian. I quietly walk beside those as they chat to each other. I feel uncomfortable as I have no idea how to contribute to the conversation. So, I decide not to say anything.

My eyes wander around, scanning everything that's around me. It is really beautiful here, Grandma would like it. I should probably call her later.

"Are you excited?" Sam leans downwards as he peers at my face, like he could tell I completely zoned out.

"Nervous is more accurate." I smile and chuckle.

"Everyone will love you Alice!" Sam tells me. "Right, Kian?" Sam looks at Kian and slaps him on the shoulder.

"Yup." Kian, in a way agrees with Sam, he pops the 'p'.

"T-Thanks, it's just, I'm nervous because it's my actual first day of school." I say timidly.

"Don't worry about it!" Sam adds, making me feel a little better.

After a while of chatting and walking, we finally arrive at school. When we get to the gates, I see Kian walk off in the opposite direction of our class.

"Uhm, Kian?" I call out to him as I see him walk the other way. I wonder if something is... wrong  with him.. in the head.

"He's probably just skipping." Sam brushes me off as he walks ahead of me. I hurriedly catch up with him.

"Skipping?" I pause. "Won't he get in trouble?" I look concerned.

"Probably, but no big deal, right?" He slips his hands in his pockets. I wonder if he's attempting to look cool?

"Oh." I nod, furrowing my eyebrows. - honestly I'm confused.

Sam walks me to Class 5 and I stand next to his desk talking to him until Mr Morris arrives. When more pupils, including that bitch, Emma walk into the class.

"Oh. Sweeting, stand here please." When Mr Morris enters the room it seems like he forgot that I moved here.

"Everyone sit down." Everyone seems to listen to Mr Morris, maybe that's because he's intimidating, I even hear a few boys hush at each other.

"Alice would you like to introduce yourself?" Mr Morris smiles at me then pushes me forward lightly with his hand, as if he's encouraging me.

No. I do not want to introduce myself. Oh god, am I sweating? "Hey everyone, I'm Alice Sweeting, nice to meet you all!" I fidget with my hands and I scan the classroom to see, Emma rolling her eyes, Lukas either resting or sleeping, Sam smiling at me as usual, and Alex who's in his own world.

"Thank you, Sweeting, now for you seat." He pauses and strokes his very small beard as he scans the room. "Oh, there!" he points to the empty seat next to..

"Next to Lukas." Mr Morris says this and then sits behind his desk.

"What's that? She'll be sitting next to Hart?" Sam shouts, sounding a bit frustrated.

"I'm sure she'd have a better time in class if it were next to me." Alex adds, he says this coolly, and grins at me.

What? But Lukas is the guy that called me a blabber mouth! My feet drag me over to that seat and I sigh when I sit down. When I do this, Lukas glances over at me.

"Umm.." I pause, what do I say? "I'm looking forward to being neighbours!" I say smiling.

What. The. Fuck.

What the hell did I just say? This is so embarrassing. NeigHboURs?! Something is honestly wrong with me. Kill me now.

He sighs and looks away from me. Yeah, same, I'd do that same if someone said that to me.

"Don't worry about him Alice." Sam turns around in his seat, reassuring me. "He's always like that." He adds. I glance over at Lukas. He does seem like the difficult type.

"Oh, Ms. Sweeting." Mr Morris calls out to me from his desk.

"Yes?" I lift my chin up to make sure he can see me.

"Your English lit textbook has been ordered but it'll take time to get here." He continues. "It should be here by next week. Until then.." He glances towards Lukas. "Hart, I'll need you to share your textbook with Ms. Sweeting until then." He does some weird smile and I hear Lukas sigh.

"Me?" Lukas replies, he seems to put no effort into anything.

"Yeah. So I'm going to need you to not skip class all week, okay?" Mr Morris says aggressively.

"If I'm not too tired." He yawns when he says this. He sleeps so much.

"Hey!" Mr Morris raises his voice. "Not a single class, you hear me?" He adds.

Lukas doesn't say a word. "Man you never change." Mr Morris sighs. "Anyway, now for attendance." he takes his seat at the desk.

Does Lukas skip so much that he needed that reminder? He doesn't seem like a bad kid though...

Wait...I check my schedule, English literature is my first class? That means I'll have to...

"Sweeting." I hear Mr Morris's deep voice and it startles me.

"Here!" I manage to reply. He's checking attendance.

"Okay, everyone's here." The bell rings. "Enjoy first period." Mr Morris leaves the room sluggishly and is replaced by the English literature teacher.

Class is going to start soon. What should I do?

"Um... I'd like to see the book please." I glance at Lukas and gulp nervously. No doubt, Lukas is scary.

Lukas doesn't reply, he just picks up the desk and moves it next to mine. Oh, I thought he wouldn't want that..

"Thanks." I smile at him. "So what are we studying at the moment?" I ask. All he does is flop open the book to a specific page. "Oh Romeo and Juliet." I nod. "That's good, we were studying that at my last school."

"Pantene, banan and lotus flower.." Lukas whispers.

"Hm?" I ask, I'm confused.

"Your shampoo." He says bluntly.

"Oh, do you know a lot about shampoo?" I ask. Oh my days, there I go again.

"Not really." He sighs. "Just seems like a lot of people are using it these days." He rests his chin in his hand before saying. "Especially virgins."

What? Did he just say virgins? No, he couldn't have, especially not with a straight face. I must be hearing things.

"You're really sweaty." He says this with a straight face

"What?" I furrow my eyebrows.

"I've never seen a girl sweat like you before." He adds, his expressions stays blank.

I wonder who's fault that is. He leaves me on edge, anyway it's rude to point it out!

We hear the bell for end of period and I dart out of my seat. Thank goodness it's finally over. Let's head to the bathroom and pull myself together.

"Hey Alice, you going somewhere?" Sam stops me.

"I'm heading to the bathroom. Speak later?" I smile, then practically run past him heading to the bathroom.

After washing my hands and making sure I look half decent, I'm about to head out of the bathroom but I'm stopped by a girl that's much taller than me, has very small lips and long brown hair, a little lighter than mine.

"Oh! S-Sorry!" I try and walk past her but she side steps in my path.

"You're that new girl, eh?" She asks, sounding slightly unpleased.

"Yeah, that's right." I look up at the girl and smile. "I'm Alice Sw-" I'm about to introduce myself but she cuts over me.

"I know exactly who you are." She snaps at me. Putting her hand on her hip. She must be a bitch like that Emma girl.

"Who are you?" I manage to stand my ground and not show I'm afraid.

"That's irrelevant." She pauses. "Why don't you get yourself back to class, attention seeker!" She shouts. Attention seeker? What the hell.

She moves out of the way and I simply walk past her, I hear her scoff behind me. I get back to class and sit down in my seat. I sigh.

Let's just get this lesson over with.

After a few periods it's finally lunchtime.

I'm completely zoned out and I'm still confused why that girl in the bathroom and Emma could be so mean. Have I done something to make them hate me? That bathroom girl, who I can't deny was very pretty, called me an attention seeker.

"Finally! Should we go get lunch?" Sam puts a fist in the air and smiles.

"Should we go to the cafeteria, or?" Ryan starts naming options.

I can hear them, I'm just not paying any attention.

"First, shouldn't we invite our class princess?" Alex says, I feel eyes on me. I'm about to say something when...

"No thanks." Emma looks up from her phone screen.

"Not you. I'm talking about Alice." Alex explains.

"Whatever. I'm off." Emma glares at me with those evil eyes before storming out of the room.

"Why did she give me the death stare?" I ask, my expression is puzzled.

"Well, we may have labelled you as 'Class Princess' so.." Sam puts his hand behind his head.

"Oh, I see." I need to study though, I have so much work to catch up on. I clear my throat, "I'm sorry guys, I have a lot of things I need to do so maybe I can come with you another time?" I smile at them.

"Sure, that's fine." Sam smiles at me, bright as usual.

"Have fun with that." Ryan adds.

I wave at the boys when they leave the room and I decide to go searching for a quiet place to sit. As I'm walking through the halls I hear muffled whispers, and eyes on me. I can tell everyone's starting to chat up again so..

I find a door to the roof, I open the heavy door and I'm greeted by a gust of wind - and just as I had hoped, no one was here.

"Okay Alice, first day here.. You can do this!" I give myself a pep talk and take deep breaths then, my eyes are set upon the last person I would want to see.

"You're noisy." Lukas says tiredly. Did I wake him?

"S-Sorry.." Oh gosh, I'm sweating again. It isn't my fault, he's so intimidating.. "I'll leave now." I swiftly make my way away from that awkward silence. As soon as I close the door I race down the stairs. I can't believe this! It's like I can't stop myself from sweating at all.

This sucks. Guess from tomorrow onwards I'll need to start carrying deodorant around with me. Not my fault, I'm all nerves here!

"Oh where did you come from, Alice?" I look up to see that Sam is standing there with a shocked face.

"Hey Sam." I try my best to smile at him. He's carrying his bag with him. "Where are you heading?" I ask.

"Me? I'm going home, I've already eaten lunch." He flashes that perfect smile again.

"What, why are -" Before I'm able to finish my sentence someone bumps into me.

"Ow!" I say under my breath.

"You're in the way. You shouldn't be just standing around." It's Ryan, he tells me, yet his face shows a soft expression. Wait, is he carrying his bag too? We still have afternoon classes...

A few hours have passed and all classes are over for the day. So everyone is at final homeroom.

"Huh? What happened to Edwards and Lewis?" Mr Morris asked.

"They left before 5th period started." Alex says, you can just tell he's chewing gum.

"They didn't ask me if they could leave. Those guys..." Mr Morris sighs and shakes his head from side to side.

Damn, they cut class. They actually did go home. Moreover, it wasn't just those two who didn't show up..

"And what about Hart?" Mr Morris asks.

"The usual." Kian states.

"His book bag?" Mr Morris looks at him.

"Here." Kian says.

What are they talking about? Then, I hear a sound come from the classroom door as it opens. It's Lukas.

"Hey Mr Class-Cutter, where have you been?" Mr Morris crosses his arms.

"I was sleeping in the nurse's office." He says, his tone is blunt. Was he sick?

"You realise that the bed in there isn't for you to go sleep in." He sighs. Lukas just looks at him.

"Well, let's wrap up it up for today then." Mr Morris says, clasping his hands together.

That's it? At my old school you would be in so much trouble for cutting class.. He's lucky.

"One more thing." Mr Morris continues. "Hart, come to the chemistry lab before you leave." Ha, I knew he'd get in trouble.

"You too, Sweeting." Mr Morris adds.

What? What have I done?

"Too bad.. We won't be able to walk home together." Alex tells me. I wasn't planning on that anyway...

"Good luck with Hart." Kian whispers to me before leaving the room.

I look over towards Lukas.

"Fuck sake." He sighs. Did he just curse? Out loud? Gosh...

Without as much as a simple explanation, we're taken to the chemistry lab. Then...

"Sorry. I've got a staff meeting now. Wait here." Mr Morris doesn't wait for our replies, he just leaves the room.

On top of that, it's going to just be Lukas and I here alone... He isn't saying anything.. What should I do, I feel so awkward. But we're going to be in the same class until March.. The same dorm too...

I should try to make nice with him. "Hey, um, thanks for sharing your book with me today." I gulp. Am I sweating again? He doesn't say anything.

"I looked at the schedule and saw we have three more hours of English literature this week." I pause then say "I just wanted to thank you in advance."

He doesn't reply again. He's so rude, and a prick!

"So anyway.. What's your favourite sub..." I stop when I feel a sudden weight on my left shoulder. What the hell? It's Lukas LAYING on my shoulder. SLEEPING?

What should I do? Maybe I can push him off? Here, I'll just shift my body over... Why is he just slumping more and more like that? He's acting like he's dead. Oh god, he's laying on my thigh, his head is really heavy, he'll crush my thigh.

Now, I have Lukas on my lap. Maybe I should pinch his nose.. Here goes nothing.

I pinch his nose, that should wake him up any moment now. His nose is actually really nice, it's really smooth. It's not oily at all..

At that moment I notice that there's a black mark on his chest.. Wait, it couldn't be. It's a tattoo! Could he be that bad?

Then the door rattles open, and I hear a voice.

"Excuse me?" A boy asks. "Is Mr Morris here?"

"Yeah, he said he'd be back after a staff meeting." I smile at the boy.

"I see." The serious looking boy then directs his eyes down to my thighs. Where Lukas is laying.

"Oh this is just...!" I try and explain myself but he cuts over me.

"You're the new girl in Class 5, Sweeting, right?" He asks.

"Yeah that's right." I reply.

"I'm Tobias Cullen, I'm in class 4. Nice to meet you." He smiles.

"Oh, nice to meet you too." I smile at him. He seems so straight laced... He's the sort of kid you'd expect to find on the student council.

"By the way, you should be careful of him." Tobias looks down at Lukas, who's still on my lap.

"Him?" I ask.

"Luke. He's bad news." He explains.

"What do you mean by that?" I tilt my head side ways.

"Exactly what I said." He replies. Wow okay, because I totally understand what he meant after saying that.

"There's a saying, 'Those who keeps company with the wolf will learn how to howl'" His face is serious when he tells me this. "I think it's best not to get too mixed up with him."

I don't say anything.

"I'll be going, bye." He then leaves. That was weird, he warned me about him, maybe he is trouble?

"What does that mean?" I ask myself - and what exactly does he mean by howling? Am I going to start barking at the moon?

"He that toucheth pitch shall be defiled therewith." Suddenly, Lukas speaks an says something completely random.

"What?" I ask, looking down at him.

"It's an old biblical proverb, basically, bad company ruins good morals." he explains, still laying on my lap. Then he adds. "Or people are easily influenced by their environment, so you must be careful whom you hang out with." he sighs when he tells me this.

"Oh, I see. So that's what he meant." I nod. "Wait, since when have you been awake?" I furrow my brows.

"For a little bit." He tells me, thinking it's no big deal, he then sits up.

"Then why didn't you get up sooner?" I ask.

"It felt nice using your lap as a pillow." He says.

Is that so? Maybe... Maybe he's a pervert like Alex!? At that second, the door swings open loudly.

It's Mr Morris. "Sorry for keeping you."

"Oh hey!" Finally, he's back. Mr Morris then places a bag of vegetables on the table. "What's up with all the vegetables?"

"My grandpa sent them to me from his house yesterday." He explains. "I want you to take them to Jesse for me."

After saying our good-byes, and Lukas just leaves me to carry this heavy plastic bag.

"Bye Alice!" I look over to see a small group of boys waving at me saying bye. What can I do, my hands are full, so I nod at them.

"Alice, be my girlfriend!" One boy shouts.

"Awh I wish I had a girlfriend." One shares.

Are they just teasing me? I think I'm sweating again...

"Want to swap?" Lukas, who's standing in front of me, asks.

"What?" Swap what?

"The bag. It looks heavy." He explains.

"Thanks. Are you sure?"

"Am I sure?" He sighs. "You're drowning in your own sweat."

He just had to point it out, didn't he.

Okay, I'm definitely going to start carrying deodorant with me starting tomorrow!
