Chapter 1

I am important.  I am a worker.  I make it so that my partner is able to do her job - actually, so she can live her life - just like anyone else.

Unlike everyone else who just sits at home all day, sleeping or watching TV, I provide an invaluable service.  Without me, she would be miserable.  I guess I can understand why others are so lazy.  There's not a lot to do when you're home alone and by yourself all day.  At least I get to go out into the world with my person.  I get to be out and about and see everything around me.

I don't mean to rub it in.  There are things I can't do.  Like sit on the couch or snuggle in bed.  I'm not allowed to play with squeaky toys or ropes.  I can't even poop while I'm working!  But I guess being always by my partners side and able to with her anywhere sort of makes up for those losses.  I wouldn't change my position for all the squeaky toys in the world!

In my mind, there are only two kinds of dogs.  A working dog and a stay at home slob.  Of course, I realize that not all pet pooches make messes or do things they aren't supposed to when left alone but if we are going to stereotype here, I think we all can agree on this one.  That is also not to say that we working dogs don't enjoy a good bought of playtime or a romp in the park.
