Chapter 1

Have a plan

Pre-determine a plan to follow should anything go wrong and ensure everyone is comfortable with it.  When an incident does occur, by having a plan in place your emergency response procedure will be far more effective, less stressful and more successful for all.

Share itineraries

Ensure that copies of traveller itineraries are circulated to all applicable colleagues if, in the event they will need to be contacted away and so everyone is aware where the traveller needs to be.  The Key Travel App is a helpful tool to help manage and share itineraries.

Familiarise yourself with your destination

Invest a little time, either in-flight or at the airport, preparing for your destination.   It's a fantastic idea to look at maps, comprehend key locations and check the many practical and safest methods for travelling.  The overseas office site is a useful place to visit before you travel for safety advice and the traveller safety.   In addition, we recommend travellers pre-arrange airport transfers when coming in unfamiliar cities, especially if coming in the night.

Create a note of useful Amounts

It's important to understand who to contact in the event of an emergency for assistance.   We recommend that travelers carry useful numbers together; such as Key Travel's 24-hour emergency contact details (which may be located in the bottom of your destination ), local emergency services, hotels, airlines, embassies, along with a colleague who is aware of any internal processes your organisation might have set up to encourage you.

Do Not rely solely on technology

Technology is great, when it works, but what happens when it fails?  Contact details that are significant should be carried by travellers in newspaper format breaks or their cell phone with them, or gets stolen or lost. The best window alarms need to be watched sometimes too. Insurance, travel and relevant medical records should be accessible.
