1. The Characteristics of a Akita Puppy and Dog

Full and large is what most say the Akita is, the dog stands high and strong to his character. The hair on the body of the Akita is coarse, full and very straight; they do not have plume appearances on them, but do have a straight tail. The Akita is known to have strong shoulders and a layback, which is powerful and moderately strong as well. The forelegs have heavy bones and look straight when seen from the front. In short, the Akita is known as a muscular dog with great prowess and grit.

The Akita has double coats, with a thick undercoat, which is dense, soft, and much shorter to the outer coat. The outer coat is very straight, stands off the body and is very harsh to touch and feel. There is no feathering on its ears, head or legs, and the hair on the rest of the body is no more than two inches long.

The colors for the Akita coat would be white and even brindle, rich and very clear to the human eye. There are well-balanced markings all over the body and masks. In some dogs, the undercoat color could be different from the outer coat color, so keep a check on that as well.

Docile and very intelligent is what defines best the nature of an Akita. In addition, they are very fearless and courageous as well. The Akita is known to be very loyal and faithful to its family members. They are very spontaneous and firm dogs, with loads of confidence and would always love to be the ringleaders around. They tend to only get aggressive with other animals around when they are not treated as the king. However, that can be corrected when he is taught to behave himself and socialize, right from the time he is a puppy.

When you live with the Akita, you have to train him to obey you, but don’t be harsh while training him or he will not learn. They follow a single leader and follow the clearly defined rules, where they treat the master as the Leader and not the other way round. This is the only way the dog would learn to respect you and let you be the pack leader.

They are very good with kids; in Japan, most mothers leave the Akita with young kids. However, teach him to be well mannered around them or else when kids tease him, he could bite. You have to also teach him to be socialized, from the days of a couple of weeks, or else he wouldn’t learn fast when all is grown up.

Kids should be told to be his leader or else the Akita would take over and make things bad for everyone. The Akita needs his daily walks or else he can be destructive and aggressive. Be very patient when training him, since he tends to lose interest quickly. He needs to be with family and doesn’t like being left alone for long periods of time, so be very nice to your Akita.

2. What You Should Know About Puppy Teeth

There is no doubt about it; puppies are going to chew on things! Dogs will have 28 baby teeth, and 42 permanent teeth. When a puppy is roughly, 2 to 3 weeks old, their baby teeth start to come in. All their baby teeth should be in place by roughly 8 weeks of age.

The puppy’s new teeth are very tiny and sharp, and will hurt your fingers when they get a hold of them. Most mothers will start to wean their babies at 5 to 6 weeks old.

Your puppies baby teeth will start to come out around 8 to 12 weeks of age. By roughly 8 months old, your dog’s permanent teeth should all be in. You should make sure that all baby teeth are out, so that a tooth is not left in, and another one comes in and crowds the space, and also gives your dog pain. You would need to visit the vet if you see this happening.

Your puppy is going to want to chew on something, just like a real baby, their teeth are coming in, and they want to relieve some of the pain. It is good for them to chew, to help the teeth come thru. You would want to get some appropriate chew items to help them.

You could start to train your dog to have their teeth brushed. You can pick up doggie tooth supplies at your local pet store usually, and get down and dirty and brush your doggy’s teeth. Rawhide chews are an excellent source of good tooth hygiene, as they are good for your dog’s teeth, and can help take off build up plaque, and dogs usually love it also!

A lot of puppies and dogs end up getting human food usually from the weakest link in the family. If your dog is under the table, they usually will go to the person they think will mostly likely give them some food scraps. If you do, just remember, chocolate and some nuts can kill your dog never give chocolate. Raisins can be just as deadly for your dog, do not give, they can shut down your dog’s kidneys, so be very careful of these products and your puppy or dog.
