1. The Characteristics of a Chesapeake Bay Retriever Puppy and Dog

The Chesapeake Bay Retriever breed is also known to be a powerful and much muscled endowed dog. The muzzle shape and the shape of their skull is the same and their ears hang loose. They have sharp teeth and thin lips along with a tail, which is medium and heavy. They are good swimmers thanks to the webbed feet they have that help them. The coat on the Chesapeake Bay Retriever is short and wavy but dense. They have oily coats just as ducks do, to keep water from accumulating under the coats.”

The color of the Chesapeake Bay Retriever would be red, brown, tan or even sedge and sometimes pale green like that of dry grass. They do have, some of them do, white spots on their breasts, toes, bellies, and even at the back of their feet as well. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is very intelligent and obedient. Talking about bravery, we would say does not test the dog, for you would be taught the true meaning of being brave. But the Chesapeake Bay Retriever accepts training and would do anything to keep you happy, although they are slow learners at times.”

The Chesapeake Bay Retriever loves his master and is very affectionate and caring when kids are around. They love water and would love to jump into the pool to retrieve a ball or anything you throw in for them to play fetch with. If you have a cat at home, they would be the cat’s best friend; however, they would not socialize well with outside cats and would chase them the moment they see one outside. If you have not had dogs before, it would be best not to adopt the Chesapeake Bay Retriever. This is because you have to be super confident of training this type of dog and handling him too. You have to show him who the master in the house is and not the other way round.”

Obedience training and classes are a must for the Chesapeake Bay Retriever, this would install the needed communication methods between the master and the dog. They can be a little dominating, but if you show them who the king around is, they would obey and be willing to do as you say. When he is a pup, he should be taken out as much and often as possible so that he socializes with other pets and humans as well. If that isn’t done on time, he could be aggressive or reserved as he grows up.”

The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is very slow to mature mentally. They are a joy to have around, especially with their childish behavior. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever suffers from eye issues and with hip issues as well. If you are living in an apartment, please don’t keep the Chesapeake Bay Retriever, for he is a dog meant for the outdoors and not the indoors.”

Brushing his coat daily makes and keeps the Chesapeake Bay Retriever happy. You also would need to take him for his daily walks and make him exercise a lot, remember he is a big dog and he needs to tone his muscles through exercises.”

2. What You Should Know About Puppy Teeth

There is no doubt about it; puppies are going to chew on things! Dogs will have 28 baby teeth, and 42 permanent teeth. When a puppy is roughly, 2 to 3 weeks old, their baby teeth start to come in. All their baby teeth should be in place by roughly 8 weeks of age.”

The puppy’s new teeth are very tiny and sharp, and will hurt your fingers when they get a hold of them. Most mothers will start to wean their babies at 5 to 6 weeks old.”

Your puppies baby teeth will start to come out around 8 to 12 weeks of age. By roughly 8 months old, your dog’s permanent teeth should all be in. You should make sure that all baby teeth are out, so that a tooth is not left in, and another one comes in and crowds the space, and gives your dog pain. You would need to visit the vet if you see this happening.”

Your puppy is going to want to chew on something, just like a real baby, their teeth are coming in, and they want to relieve some of the pain. It is good for them to chew, to help the teeth come thru. You would want to get some appropriate chew items to help them.”

You could start to train your dog to have their teeth brushed. You can pick up doggie tooth supplies at your local pet store usually, and get down and dirty and brush your doggy’s teeth. Rawhide chews are an excellent source of good tooth hygiene, as they are good for your dog’s teeth, and can help take off build up plaque, and dogs usually love it also!”

A lot of puppies and dogs end up getting human food usually from the weakest link in the family. If your dog is under the table, they usually will go to the person they think will mostly likely give them some food scraps. If you do, just remember, chocolate and some nuts can kill your dog never give chocolate. Raisins can be just as deadly for your dog, do not give, they can shut down your dog’s kidneys, so be very careful of these products and your puppy or dog.”
